Handwriting Vs. Typing

My grandfather and I write back and forth to one another every month or so, and I've always taken note to the generation gap in our letters. My grandfather like many of yours, I'm sure, was brought up in a schooling system that demanded (I should likely repeat the word 'demanded') proper writing skills. His penmanship is quite remarkable and I'm not ashamed to say I'm quite envious of it. I've never been graceful with a pen, and calligraphy in any form is hardly the art i was cut out for. The slower I write the more beautiful my letters and words will become, but often times when we write it's under pressure of time. As well, I can hardly stay on track of my thoughts if I write slowly, so it proves rather frustrating for me. My grandfather on the other hand writes flawlessly, in perfect lines on unlined paper, clearly legible, and without errors. Perhaps it's the way we're trained, though I didn't really use a keypad for writing until college. Before that I would write my lessons in class, write my speeches and letters and so forth by hand, and pray that the receiving end would make sense of it. Now I'm bound to a computer to write, and yet, still my mind moves faster than my fingers, but at least I can keep track of my thoughts for the most part. I write to my grandfather on the computer and print out my letters. I've explained to him that it's not out of laziness or lack of time, but more for his benefit to be able to read something that doesn't look like it was written by a dyslexic kindergartener. The only time I'm praised with a pen is when I sign my name, but perhaps that's simply because I'm cutting a cheque...

Handwriting. Almost all of my creative writing is, in its original form, scattered across many notebooks. And since I write something in them every day, that's by far the dominant sort of writing I do.

Handwriting or typing? I pick neither and go with the voice recognition software. So much easier, and the hands barely have any work to do.

I like both. My handwriting is very neat so I have no problems when it comes to getting handwritten assignments up in school but I'm very good at typing as well. I handwrite all of my stories, songs, poems before I type them up on the PC.

I mostly do my writing by hand, but typing is much faster (and readable)..

Handwriting for compositions and artistic stuff like that. A typewriter is for work simply but I really like the clank click noises they make.
