Unification of the Human Race

We discussed something like this in Koopa's "Is the Earth doomed?" Topic. As of late, I've been thinking about the potential in human unification. How much ass we'd kick, if we'd only put this political crap aside (very unreal statement, i know) and unify under one head, one court system. I have talked to some people, who have told me that unifying the human race under one "nation" is the dumbest thing they've ever heard; that it is too late for us to unify. I disagree with that, of course, because I think that unifying our people is an excellent idea - the only way for us to truly evolve as a whole. The only problem is how to do it. Do we have to go through some epic war of the nations to see who comes out on top? As stated before, we have come to an agreement that organizations such as UN and WTO are great starts...so why not try this out? How do you successfully unify a planet? Though the matter is much more complicated than it sounds, I honestly think it is something to strive for.

I agree that it's an idiotic idea. First off, the most powerful countries (from before this stupid recession) are gonna have to share power with everyone else. Second, we have alot of third world countries and under-developed nations, most of which the able nations barely want anything to do with anyway, because it affects their image.

There is also the fact that the military accounts for many jobs, and without a military, you're looking at a few tens of million people jobless. Then you also take in people working in defense, weapons manufacturing and engineering, get rid of the foreign embassy's.

After this you have to deal with the language barrier. You have to deal with the mix of culture and religion. You have to deal with where people are gonna live, because, going back to the third world countries, they don't want to live there, they'd rather go live in industrialized nations, so there's a tighter squeeze on job and shelter and even foods and goods.

All and all, this doesn't work.

The EU started to make some kind of big country (there isn't borders in the European Union, but honestly nearly nothing has changed... For example my country is far far way from the french or english ect economy. Also the Eu told Hungary to not make that much wine (hungarian wines are famous- Egri Bullblood or Tokaji Aszu)- it would be bad for the French..
And for one nation we would need one language there's already esperanto, few years ago people learned it honestly it's not popular at all. So I don't think that we can become one nation we would still chew on our past. For example even if you live in an other country you would still say yes I'm hungarian I'm not slovakian they just attached this part of the Hungarian country to Slovakia but I think it should be part of Hungary and not Slovakia (after Trianon- I.WW)
So I don't think that we can make it but I love our planet's colorfulness so I would never wish for one nation.

Yes I think the EU is the closest thing we have come to unifying anyone so far. It really would be a stretch to unify the entire world, but there are a couple ways I can think of how this actually could be accomplished, but they are less desirable than we would want. First one would be if a country just took over the world. Invaded everybody else, and made the entire world their own. Sure, it wouldn't be peaceful, but it would be unified. Another way would be for mass genocide of every single human on the planet, besides those of a specific race, ethnicity, and religion. Then they could enjoy all of the new living space, and they could probably get along for maybe a generation or so, before they started fighting. Or we could start a massive war that leaves the world a desolate, uninhabitable wasteland, and we will all be unified in being dead.

As much as I rag on religion, I really do think that is the major obstacle standing in the way of any unification whatsoever. People have been killing each other in the name of God since the beginning of time, and it doesn't look like it's going to stop any time soon.

Until religion is abolished, or everyone agrees on a single religion, or people finally stop persecuting one another because of it, a single nation will never happen.

The easiest way to get it done is to wipe out a large percentage of the population and start over. Sure all the the other ideas are decent, but human nature is diverse and many, like the stars in the sky. To be able to bind them all to a unity would take something spectacular. If a large amount of the population was gone, oh lets say 95%, and give the 5% all the accumulated knowledge wisdom and power, they would have a better chance of uniting and the ability of being able to start over knowing what to do and guiding the remainder of humanity down a glorious path. Kinda got the idea from the Foundation series by Asimov. Psychohistory, fantastic stuff really.

Or something less bleak. You know there's been points in human history, when something was discovered or created that gave us a boost, like fire the wheel alphabet paper. Sometimes, something would give a nation or a group of people a golden period where the culture grew at a massive rate that generated wealth science and art. It happened to the Greeks after Persia declared war on them. Happened to Rome. Heck, happened in America right after WWII and now the Chinese are going on one due to the Olympics. What needs to happen is a discovery or an event that will give all of us, as a race, a golden era, a time when humanity as a whole just grows exponentially.

The way I see it, our species is relatively young compared to the rest of the universe. As a race we are still childish. I think it has to do with our lifespan. An individual only lives what, 50-60 years? WTH is that?? It's to freaken short so we act rashly and make really stupid decisions. We as a race just needs to grow up. That's really it. Grow up.

Power.

It is what people want. Many will do anything to get it, and many more will do everything to keep it. "Unifying" the planet will (in my opinion) take power away from many people who have it, i.e. leaders of other countries. And I'm positive that they will not enjoy that.

Besides, I think there are too many differences to set aside. Take Israel and her many enemies for example. Do you really think those who hate the Jews are going to just set aside their religious beliefs and hold hands with someone they have hated for God knows how long?

At the rate the world is going now, I have also come to a conclusion that one country should unite the world by force. Though it does not sound pretty, that is the best solution in my opinion. But the problem with this is, which country deserves to run an entire planet? Only the fittest of nations deserves to rule over all, so that we may advance. Perhaps instead of just going out and choosing a country to rule the world with the possibility to screw up humanity, perhaps we should start out slowly by having a nation that acts as earth's "spokesperson". If any extraterrestrial contact is ever made, then at least we have a representative. That way nations on earth can all collaberate without having to give up their positions of power.

We can't unite all nations under a single flag for the many many reasons that the rest of us have described.

Plus, we have another thing to deal with, along with what has been described: Laws.

The Middle East, there are laws against Homosexuality, laws against women driving, speaking to males other than her husband, and it's okay to stone someone to death. In the U.S.A, you can't have booze in public, use drugs, smoke or look at porn till you're 18, drink till you are 21. Canada, you can use weed, drink at 16 (I believe). In Japan, Lolicon (hentai or pornographic (All drawn) imaging depicting underaged children in sexual situations) doesn't bother anyone. In China, it's okay to eat domesticated animals like dogs.

Everyone has different laws for different things, and only laws of murder, rape, fruad, theft, arson, public chaos and destruction, those are universal, but the punishments aren't. So who's law do you follow?

I think here it would be a visual aid quiet. At any rate there's really no way we are ever going to reach unity as a race. The way things are now it is going to be nearly impossible. And because of the way things are I highly doubt there's a megalomaniac crazy and smart enough to accomplish world domination. The whole thing is idealistic but reality doesn't like idealism so it's not going to happen.
