Question :|:[ When is the right time to go under the knife? ]:|:

Plastic surgeries. Are we living in a day of the plastic surgeries being "in fashion" or a must? More and more people are going "under the knife" to meet someone's "expectations." It all started not so long ago with celebrities, actresses and super-models... however, we may observe a rapidly growing new "industry" - a new "need" among common people. Every year, more and younger women decide have a plastic surgery; men are being more concerned about their appearance. Media insanely promote "extreme body makeovers" leading the society to a belief that we are ugly, unattractive... and so on.. unhappy about ourselves. An "ideal" image "of beauty" being promoted is nothing but a lie of distorted proportions...
How many of us (you) feel the pressure?
Have any of you ever considered having a plastic surgery? If yes, what would you like to change and why?
How many of you believe that a plastic surgery might help someone?
Or that sometimes it's "the only solution"?

It can help soemone, for example if someone had an accident it can be a great help. For example we have a singer(hungarian) who had an accident her face was injured seriously, she had a surgery and now her face is ok. I would never lie under a knife. And for those who can't accept their apperance, it can't be helped... If they think that this is the best and not doing sport or change things in their life... it's their choice, but there are cases when I laugh at them cuz they are insane, for example that women who has got as big lips as my 3middle fingers....

Personally I've never wanted a plastic surgery. The whole thing stems out of self-esteem problems, which further stems from unhappiness. Therefore, I would believe that while plastic surgery is an option, I would opt to nip the problem right in the bud.

wow. Your reply is actually on the topic! amazing.. ; )
I do agree, that most of the times "the problem" exists only in someone's psyche... But for it we could blame media, sick influence on ppl as well as manipulations.

I think that if you get , lets say your fase smashed etc, its great to be able to reconstruct the persons face , but if you operate wen you allready are beautiful, its just snobbish and egoistic , money wasting, and un nessesary... but if you have a bad self image and get depressed by your body , then I feel like its right to do it....

Well the added pressure of everyday media portraying the pinnacle of human appearance doesn't seem to help people's self esteem, and the reinforcement of realizing all the people of 'celebration' and 'idolization' are upkept to meet these standards as well doesn't really boost confidence levels. I can help by saying that about 97% of all models you'll meet are either annoying, stuck up, quite stupid, or a combination of the three. They most definitely balance out with the content of their character. unfortunately you can't take a sexy photo of your personality and spread in on a magazine cover.
ayumibee points out the good side though. reconstructive plastic surgery can be more than just a means to make you pretty again, but can also help you live the life you have as you always have. skin grafting, breast and testicular implants for cancer survivors, even dental reconstruction. A traumatic event doesn't have to be the end of the life you knew. My one friend had troubles with his nose because it'd been broken on numerous occasions and had a little work done on it to make it so he could breath properly again and not have to blow snot out of it every 2 seconds. Sure we ragged him for getting a nose job, but nobody would venture to say that it wasn't a sound choice. He can breath properly....
in conclusion, don't get carried away.

Well I have thought about going under the knife to get a breast reduction because everyday after I get off the computer my back crack and its sore and I just come from a family with...knockers lol. But I dont have any self esteem issues I think I'm fine the way I am I just would to prefer to go a day without having a backache. Now people get Botulinum Toxin or botox (which is a poison) injected into their face or get lipo instead of getting on a treadmill thats different.

Personally, I have never really thought about it and doubt I ever will in my life. As far as influences go, I think there's a limit as to how far someone will go to change themselves unless they need it.

After all, surgery isn't a simple process.

Like hinted at before, I think it'd really need a visible problem. Thus, I don't really worry about it and I doubt many do. The few who go over the line for small changes are likely people who have done it before. There lies little satisfaction in a change like that, normally, and people tend to do it again.

But, if I could think of something to change without any hassle, I'd wish that my nose was a bit smaller.

Plastic surgery should only be made available to physically deformed people. Using it for vanity is a waste of resources and money.

Plastic Surgery really is sort of stupid. It's great if you've had some sort of accident, and can help people who were disfigured, disabled, etc.

Plastic Surgery for purely cosmetic purposes... Well all I can say is that it LOOKS nice. Sure, that super duper boob job LOOKS nice and all, but it's heavy, impractical, can cause health problems by leaking, becoming irritated, crushing your lungs, and totally spoiling it when a person who feels up on them only to get a handful of Silicon sacks. On top of that, it cost you like $10,000. I mean c'mon, there are bras that can make a woman look several sizes bigger that are like below $50.

And as for the paranoid people that look totally normal but think they are hideous monsters... if you truly think you are so ugly, why spend so much on a surgery? A Paper bag is so much cheaper.

And the gender reassignment surgeries... ugh...
