new game or expansion

if you had the money would you buy a new game or the expansion to an original game? personally i would take the expansion cause they're usually cheaper, and if you buy the new game, eventually an expansion will come out for it too, leaving you with two boring and (by now) old original games.

Expansions are okay, but you forgot to say that you had the game that goes with the expansion with it. Along with this, Expansions so far have mainly come out for only RTS and RPG titles on the PC, plus exceptions Elder Scrolls 4 and several other games on the 360. Besides, if you get two games, for example, Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind, and Half Life 2, you have two big games with large amounts of replay value, where as you get the expansion for Morrowind (I got the game of the year edition) and get about another 20 hours content to a 200 hour game. (Yes, I really do spend that kind of time). So, you have 1/10th the time value, versus a full fledged game. Let's use a smaller game though. Age of Empires 3. 30 hours of content if you try out everything. Get the expansion, you get... 2 races and a couple new missions. 8 hours to be generous. Get an older title, Age of Empires 2, you get 25 hours content.

Age of Empires 3: The Asian Dynasties has only 2 races?
