SCENE: Urban coffee-house, a basement in the big city.

(Several people sit at small round tables, drinking coffee and discussing various things. It's Open Mike Night.)

(DAFFYD AP MORGEN steps up onto the small stage. He speaks into the standing microphone. His voice is a pleasant tenor.)

Good evening. My name is Daffyd ap Morgen.

The piece I'm going to perform is called "Introduction."

The truth is often found
in strange places.
The brush of the pen on acetate,
colors and lines,
Address a greater reality.

My eye hungers for these things,
seeks the visual food,
the mythic revelation in the cat girl,
Or the roaring engines of the giant mecha--
a girl running after her classmate.

A boy wonders at what a girl says,
the universe waits on the decision
Of a hero despised;
Souls are freed from vile bondage
at the sound of a song or a chant.

(The patrons respond with polite applause. DAFFYD bows slightly.)
