[Nightmare]

Chapter 10

"Did you see a door before just now?" Laury asked.
"No, but I've seen stranger things this week," Danny told her. "Then he extended a hand and said, "Shall we?"
"We shall," Laury said taking Danny's hand.
"Right then!" Danny exclaimed striding forward with Laury. Just before they passed through the door Danny said, "Down the rabbit hole we go."
On the other side of the door was a building that could only be described as some kind of temple. In the center was an alter which was surrounded by three rings; the inner most held four symbols, the outer two both had twelve. The center ring seemed to contain letters of some sort the inner and outer most however contained pictures. Sprouting from the center chamber were corridors each of these held doors and openings into other, smaller hallways. at the end of these main halls were more alters similar to the one in the center of the room only smaller, and weather or not they had symbols as well could not be seen. Throughout the complex were large pillars connecting the floor to he high vaulted ceilings.
Dian was waiting for them on the other side of the door. "Good of you to join us," she said. "Welcome to the Hall of the Zodiac!"
"Have we 'arrived' now?" Laury asked.
"Yes," Dian said.
"Good, then tell us what you've been saying you'd tell us," Laury ordered, putting her hands on her hips.
"Of course," Dian said. "But where should I begin?"
"Start with all the weird stuff that's been happening around us," Danny supplied.
"Well that can be explained quite simply," Dian told them. "You are now standing in the Hall of the Zodiac, your new home. Zodiacs- That is people like you and me, are individuals that have powers which were granted to them by several supernatural beings. This power is the reason for the strange happenings around you."
"What do about my parents forgetting about me?" Danny asked.
"And what did you mean by new home?" Laury interjected.
“Your question first Laury,” Dian said. “You might want to sit, this may take a while. Zodiacs have grate power, but it is our lot to battle against an even grater power. Those who weald this power are known only as Shades. The Shades are both powerful and insane, There goal firs and foremost is the destruction of all zodiacs, therefore it is necessary for you to live here safe from those who will hunt you. Humans unless they have supernatural powers, or unless they are paying attention will not notice your presence. In addition any human without powers will quickly forget you when you leave there site. While she had spoken both Laury and Danny had sat down and now Dian did the same.
“Dian, you said the shades are super powerful and out for blood right?” Danny asked, nut did not wait for an answer. “So why would you choose a little girl like Laury to fight them?”
“I’m not little!” Laury exclaimed. “I’m thirteen!”
“Thirteen! I thought that girls hit puberty earlier than guys!” Danny said.
“We do,” Laury said sounding a little disheartened. “I’m just a late bloomer… a really, really late bloomer.”
Danny smiled softly, “They say the late blooming flower is often the most beautiful.”
“Not that it matters now,” Dian said.
“Why not?” Laury asked.
“The moment you walked through that door your awakening as a Zodiac was complet and your ageing process stopped,” Dian told them. “Congratulations you are now one of us.”
“That’s another thing you keep talking like there’s more zodiacs that just us where are the others?” Danny asked.
“You will meet them later,” Dian assured him.
“You said we’d ‘do well together’, what did you mean” Laury asked.
“All zodiacs have a partner.” Dian said. “If one should ever die the other becomes a messenger.”
“I thought you said we can’t die…” Laury said.
“No, I said that you do not age, but all things must face death… even the gods.” Dain told them.
“Okay, so we can be killed, but otherwise we’re fine?” Danny asked.
“Yes,” Dian affirmed.
“So if the shades are so strong,” Laury said. “How do we beat them?”
“It is true that the Shades will outclass you in power,” Dian said. “However Shades are limited to just the power of the Zodiac While we have been able to make contact with various deities. We zodiacs also gradually increase in power over time while the power of a shade remains constant. So, in theory, a Zodiac could gain more power than a shade.
“What do you mean in theory?” Danny asked.
“A zodiacs power only increase as long as both they and there partner live.” Dian told them. “No one has ever lasted that long, so we’re not sure.”
The questioning went on like that for hours, Danny and Laury asking questions, and Dian providing answers. Finally Laury asked.
“So what does a messenger do anyway?”
“A messenger finds those that have come in contact with the power of the zodiac and awakens them. A messenger then explains things and teaches the basics of using the powers of a zodiac, which reminds me, it’s time I did so.
