Oh, because we're scared of terrorists. Whatever. Slowly, but surely, these "Patriot Acts" are going to turn this Land of the Free...into something else. This is only a theory.

And about the Russia Georgia thing, i thought i read something about them agreeing to withdraw after that crap with France and Condoleezza Rice.

I had the same thought a couple days after the event. I mean, come on! America has some of the best defense in the known world, along with some of the best communication, and secret services. To sit there and tell me that they didn't see a plane coming directly into the city in that manner is a bunch of bs. And all the events that followed afterwords were, just as was mentioned, a game of sick chess. The maneuvering and placements of our troops, the ousting of a sovereign nation, and reelection of a president, and a law that is a slap on the basic civic rights that we fought so hard for. America is slowly turning into a police state with a taste for socialism and, I fear, imperialism, which is not to far away...remind anyone of another long past civilization?

There was a guy ranting while reading from a bible at my school one day. As I walked by I happened to catch that according to him the world will end on August 29th, 2009, somewhere between 3 and 5pm. I'm as likely to believe him as I am other "professionals".

I hope not. But whether or not you liked the people who say these things, well that's kinda personal. So it's always safe to drop the subject before it gets too hot.

@ Lee: it's not just the fact that they didn't notice the planes that day, it's that we were aware of the threats several months before.

I'm just wondering, but have any of you every been in a flight controll tower? I have, and you should know the tracking systems are a real mess. There are thousands of planes landing, taking off, and in the air all at the same time. If you've ever seen a one of those big screen maps of America with all the little dots representing aircraft, you would notice how crazy and chaotic it can be to track them all.

I would agree with you, as I saw that movie United 93. But whether they saw it with their eyes or not isn't the point. It's that they knew MONTHS before it was going to happen!

This is quite amusing how a thread about the state of the earth has become a debate over whether 9/11 was a conspiracy. I think that the attacks of September 11, 2001 were perpetrated by... someone. I don't really care who. But a lot of people died from those attacks, which sort of sucked. Whoever it was that was really behind the attacks ended up sacrificing thousands of innocent lives for whatever their cause was. The truth is that it was a tragedy no matter who was behind it, no matter what any ulterior motives were behind the attacks.

plus a lot of people made a lot of money off investments in security and defense. it's gets real interesting when the people that are involved in the perpetuation of a war also have their wallets in it too........

I recall in school seeing a video about the depletion of natural resources and the like. Advertising alone, they said, would rid us of our resources withing 70 years. rough estimation on the difference from when I saw it'd be about 2055 or so. but I guess jesus will come back and f*ck us up before that happens, so no worries, huh.
