~[: Into the Night :]~

Four men sat in a candle lit room, on a cold winters night. The wind was howling on that night. The room they were in was a small, secret room that only rulers of the town knew about. It was hidden away under ground- its entrance was a secret door under the floor boards of the local pet shop.

“So...the law is final..?”
“Yes...”
“Then let it be that....”
“From this day on, to control the population in this town, when ever twins are born, the one that weights the lightest, has to have its life ended..”
“Agreed...”

~100 Years Later ~

It was a beautiful spring morning and the air was nice and cool. The sun was shining, the birds were singing and people were all acting like their merry selfs. All the people in town were gathered at the local church to witness the becoming of two hearts as one. That's right a marriage. Seeing as how the town was not that large of a town, everyone was invited. The bricks of the church were a Rose-Gold color. On the inside, it was all nice and fancy with beautiful stain glass windows. The music that was playing was very harmonious,so peaceful and so lovely. The couple that were to be married – Soul, the groom. He had shoulder length black hair and green eyes.He was dressed in a good looking, clean black Tuxedo. He smiled and looked at his bride, his love, his wife to be. Aki- She had long brown hair, and brown eyes. She was dressed in a beautiful, stunning, white dress. She turned to look at her groom, her love, her husband to be.

“I do...”
“I do..”
“Then by the power of holy matrimony, In the witness of God, as two hearts become one, I now pronounce you husband and wife, you may now kiss the bride,”

Soul turned to his now wife and a smile appeared on his lips. He leaned in and lightly placed a kiss on Aki's lips, his arms sliding around her waist. Aki smiled and wrapped her arms around his neck, and returned the kiss, as everyone in the church let out a cheer and started to clap.

~ 9 Months Later ~

February 20th 1786

The snow was blowing heavily that evening. Everywhere you looked there was white white and more white. Snow pelted the ground, the roof tops, the tops of shops and even covered the forest that was located near the exit on the west side of town. In an old hospital building there was a small room. The room had white walls, and a small bed, with grayish sheets. The room was lit with small candles, whose flame danced playfully by the tiny breeze that was blowing in thought the small cracks in the windows. On the bed lay a young women. She had long brown hair and her eyes were brown. She had a strained look on her face from the long hours of labor she was in. Beside her bed side there was a young man with black hair and green eyes. His hand was holding onto the hand of the one he loved. He was resting his head down on the blanket that the women was wrapped in. Suddenly the women let out a high pitched scream. Her husband looked up and looked at her, then he got up and ran into the other room.

"Nurse! doctor! Come quick! My wife is giving birth!”

About twenty-five seconds later, the husband, three nurses and two doctors all ran into the room with blankets, towels, water and face-cloths. The husband moved over to the side and took his wife's hand again. The doctor prepared for help her with the birth. The nurses stood by holding towels, water – prepared to clean the baby when it was born.

“Okay, 1 2 3 4 5 and push...” The doctor, said coaxing the lady through the process.
“AHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!” Screamed the lady, pushing.
“Its okay Aki, the baby will be born in a few minutes,” the husband said calmly, stroking her hand.
“1 2 3 4 5 and push again,”
“AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!”
“The baby's head is crowning, almost there!” shouted the other doctor.”
“Hear that love? Only a few more pushes and our child will be born,”
“1 2 3 4 5 and one more big push,”
“AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!”

Suddenly the room echoed with the cheering of the doctors and the nurses. Tears of joy streamed down the face of the young women who had just given birth, and even down the face of her husband.

Suddenly the whole room went silent and not a sound, but the infant crying was heard. The doctors looked down to see what they had in their hands. The lady had given birth to twins. A girl and a boy. They nodded and turned to the lady who had just given birth. The lady sat up and looked at them questionably, worried that something was wrong with her children. Her husband took a seat beside his wife and looked at the doctors.

“Is everything alright?” He asked looking at his children.
“Yes..but your wife has given birth to twins...and well..you know” The doctor said looking at the husband, and then at his Wife.

Aki looked at her husband and then at the doctors, and then at the children in the doctors hand. She looked at her husband worriedly. She knew what it meant when twins were born, but she couldn't chose one of her children to die. She wouldn't be able to live it down. Tears were not starting to fall from her eyes. The doctor got up and walked over to the beside holding both of the babies in his hands. There was a girl with brownish hair, her eyes were green and a boy whose hair was black and his eyes were brown.. The husband turned his head to look at the doctor.

Please doctor..there must be some way...that we can keep our children,” pleaded the husband
“Soul...” Aki whispered, her voice tired before turning to the doctor. “..Please..”
“I am sorry, the laws are the laws...one child must die..” The doctor said, turning around and walking away.

“You will have one hour to choose what baby will be living..” Was the doctors final words.

The doctor gave the infants to the nurse's and walked of to arrange the preparations. The nurse looked at the couple sadly and then she shook her head. She placed the babies in the arms of their mother and then she walked away, a light tear falling from here eyes. The couple looked at her and then down at their children.

“Love...how can we pick one...I mean...they are our children..?” Aki said, a tear rolling down her cheek.
“I know, I know...but if we don't...we will be kicked out of the town..and we will have no home to go..” Soul responded, looking at his wife.

They looked down at the children and a tear fell both onto the infants cheek. Aki looked down at the girl and She lifted her up. She looked at the little girl. She nodded having picked out the name their child.

“Your name will be Kimber...Kimber Arcadia...” She said whispering, in the child's ear.

Soul looked down at his son who was fast asleep also in Aki's arms. He lifted up the infant and held him close. A tear fell from his eyes. It was going to be hard to pick what child was going to live and what child was going to pass on. No matter who was going to pass on, both children did needed to have a name. He looked at his son for a second and then smiled. He had the perfect name for his son.

“My son...your name will be Theo...Theo Vyce” he whispered, looking at his wife.

Soul sat on the bed beside his wife, holding Theo, his arm wrapped around Aki, who had her head on his shoulder, with Kimber in her arms. They were both sad, how could a parent pick one child to live? How could a parent choose one child to die...? They had to make the most hardest choice that people would ever have to make. The doctor walked in, and their heads looked up at the doctor. They held their children.

“Have you chosen a child to keep..?” Asked the doctor, standing in the doorway.
“No....” They both responded.
“Well...I will chose then...”
“Noooo....you can't...” Aki cried out
“You can't do that man...have a heart!” Shouted Soul, enraged somewhat.

The doctor did not respond to them. He just walked over and looked at Kimber and then at Theo. He though for a second and then her nodded. He picked up a piece of paper and then scribbled something on it. Aki and Soul looked at him and then at each other. He walked back over and lifted Theo up. He then nodded.

“This baby is coming with me,” He said walking away with the sleeping infant.
“NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!” Shouted Aki, Placing Kimber down, jumping up and starting to run, tears streaming down her face.

Soul jumped up after Aki and grabbed her arm, pulling her into a hug. His arms wrapped around her waist and her held her. Aki cried into him. She was shaking and very distraught about the situation. Sadly, no one knew what happens to the babies after they are killed. No one even knew how they were killed. Everyone hoped it was humanely Soul kept one arm around her waist and ran another thought her hair. He whispered calm soothing words to her, trying to calm her down. She stopped sobbing for a minute and looked up into his eyes. He removed the hand that was in her hair, and wiped away a few tears from her eyes. They both looked at each other and then they bowed their heads, a moment of silence.

A few hours later the couple arrived home with Kimber. They were going to start their new life parents, but they couldn't really tonight. Tonight they were grieving the lost of their son. They walked into the room that was going to be the twins room...now it was only Kimber's. They looked around and walked around the house, until they were greeted by a red border collie, who was jumping around, wagging his tail. Aki tried to smile, but couldn't. She kissed Soul's cheek and went to the put Kimber down for sleep. Soul looked at his wife and then sighed sadly. He got down on one knee and looked at the dog.

“Come here Sayd, there is someone I want you to meet,” Soul called to the dog, walking towards Kimber's room.

Soul walked into the quiet room with Sayd following behind wagging his tail. Aki had put Kimber down for the night. She was wrapped in a pink blanket, sleeping in a small crib. He walked beside his wife and wrapped an arm around her waist. Sayd got up on his hind legs and sniffed the baby, wagging his tail. Aki once again turned to soul and cried into his shoulder. Soul held her close.

Then, something came to his mind. At that very moment in time he had a memory. He remember reading somewhere that babies sent to death are to be kept alive for 24 hours. He looked around the room and then at Aki, then at Kimber and then at Sayd. He cracked a smile.

“Aki..”
“Yes love?”
“We are going to break the law..”
“What?! Are you crazy?! What do you mean anyway?”
“Babies who are sent to death are kept alive for 24 hours right?”
“Well, yeah they are,”
“So then – this is what we are going to do,”
“....”
“We are going to break into the hospital, get Theo back, escape this town, start a new life in the other town,”
“What...but..what if we get caught?”
“We will not, trust me. We will break in tonight when the staff goes home,”
“I really do want our baby back..and I will do all I can to do so,”
“Then it is settled, we will pack and at 10pm we will head to the hospital and disappear into the night. “

Aki nodded and looked at Kimber with a smile. Now they were both against disobedience of the laws, but when it came to things like family and love, you cant risk a live for laws or put a price of it. They started to pack only the belongings that they would need. The town they planned on living into was a small, quiet. Soul grew up in this town, but when he married Aki he wanted to live here in her town were she grew up. It was only a 7 hour walk thought
the forest on the west side. They could make it there in one night. The clock struck 10pm and they were already on there way to the hospital. They crept thought the streets being very quiet. Kimber was sleeping in Aki's arms, Sayd was walking beside Soul. They arrived at the hospital and they headed towards the back were a shed was. Babies that were sent to death were placed in a bed that was in a shed at the back at the hospital. They looked aroud and saw that no one was there and that were some boxes underneath an opened window. Soul snapped his figures and pointed to the boxes under the window. Sayd ran off, jumped onto the boxes and through the window. Sayd knew that he had to get the little boy in the far right bed on the left. He walked to the end, carefully jumped up onto the bed. He bend down and lifted up (with his mouth) the artical of clothing that Theo was in. He ran down the room and jumped back out of the window. Aki ran over to Sayd who was standing on the box. She lifted up Theo and held him to her. Soul ran his hand through the infants hair and then smiled.

They turned around, and were about to leave to head of into the forest, when suddenly Sayd stopped moving and he looked around. His ears were on alert and the fur on his back stood up, his fangs were baring. He let out snarls as he looked around protectively. Suddenly his ears twitched and he turned his head. The sound of a gun clicking was heard and Sayd jumped around and barked at a shadowy figure. Soul and Aki turned around to face the shadow, when the doctor walked out.

“Put the child back!” He shouted, the gun rising to eye level.
“No, Never!” Shouted Aki, holding Theo in a protective way.
“That baby is to be killed! You know the laws of this town,” Cursed the doctor, placing his figure on the trigger.

Suddenly both Aki and Soul's eyes widened in complete horror. They had realized that the babies that were sent to die were shot to death. So it wasn't a lovably manor, it was a horrifically, sickening way. They killed babies execution-style, what a terrible way to end the life, especially one of an infant. Soul stepped in front of Aki, protecting her and their children. His always loving-caring-happy-go-lucky eyes were now filled with hate and rage for this town and for the people in it.

“Place the child on the ground, walk away, unless you want to see the death of your child..or how about I kill you all? Nice way to end right? A family resting in peace together, how cute..”
“If you...touch one hair and I mean ONE HAIR on my family, I will beat you senseless, and I will show no mercy...” Glared soul, his voice cold and protective.
“Ohhhhh I'm so scared, I think I will just put down my gun now,” The doctor said lowering his gun.

Aki walked out from behind Soul and looked at him and then the doctor. They turned to walk away. Soul took Aki's hand and they got about five steps before they heard the sound of the gun clicking again.

“Fat chance..” the doctor whispered and fired the gun.

The sound of gun fire echoed through the quiet night, disrupting the peace. A silver bullet zoomed at them. Suddenly an ancient snarl, was heard and then a large yelp. Sayd had jumped in front of bullet and took the hit. He whimpered, bleeding from his chest. He still growled, he was determined to protect his family that he loved so much. Despite his pain he ran towards the doctor, and sank his razor sharp fangs into the arm, were the gun was being held in. The doctor let out a howl in pain. The doctor swag his other arm around and punched Sayd in the muzzle, knocking the dog of.

The couple took this time to run. They looked back and Sayd and knew he could handle a fight. They ran of into the forest and then they stopped when they heard the sounds of gun fire...then Sayd's painful cry...then silence. He had given up his life, so the couple could raise Kimber and Theo peaceful and in love. Turning in tears, they ran off into the forest.

Their lives were altered that night
A change was made
They lost a close friend
They disappeared into the night
and were never seen again.
