[Nightmare]

When Danny woke next, he was lying in a soft bed and was covered in light sheets. He made a mental note to think this was strange later, (as he could have sworn he had passed out in a back alley). But for now his head hurt Danny shifted and groaned aloud.
“Oh look he’s coming around,” said a woman’s voice. At least he thought it was a woman’s.
“Mom?” Danny said still a little dazed.
“The poor dear!” that was definitely a woman. “He must have hit his head.” Danny tried to open his eyes, but the light made his head hurt worse, so he closed them again.
“Are you alright young man?” That time it was a man.
“It’s so bright,” Danny told them.
“Oh of course,” said the man. “I’ll go turn out some of the lights, you keep an eye on him.”
“Okay, I’ll do that,” the woman responded. There was a sound of someone moving around the room, and then the man’s voice came again.
“Try opening your eyes now.” So Danny did and to his relief the lights were much dimmer. Danny looked around and got his first look at his saviors. He had been correct in assuming that they were a man and woman. They were about sixty judging by appearance. The woman’s hair was beginning to gray a bit, but the man’s was a light blond.
“Thank you,” Danny said
“Don’t mention it,” said the man in a deep gravelly voice.
“Yes it was nothing,” the woman interjected. “But what happened?”
“Well” said Danny thinking back. “I was in this back alley.
“We know that much son,” the man interrupted. “Why don’t you skip ahead a bit?
“Alright then,” said Danny sitting up. “This guy came out of nowhere and, I think he tried to mug me.”
“Oh you poor darling!” The woman interrupted.
“What do you mean you think?” the man asked.
“Well the memory’s kind of hazy,” Danny said. “But anyway I think I fought them”
“You fought them!” the two said together.
“Look am I telling this story or not?” Danny asked sharply.
“Sorry we have so few guests we can get a little excited sometimes.” The woman told him.
“No, I shouldn’t have snapped,” Danny said shamefaced. “I’m sorry.”
“It’s to be expected,” the man said. “I can only imagine the stress you must be under.”
“Think I can handle the lights being on now,” Danny told them.
“Okay,” the man said and went to turn on the lights. On his way back he took off his cote and hung it up.
“So here was I?” Danny asked when he returned. “Oh now I remember, I fought him and apparently I won seeing as I’m here and he’s not.” Danny told them, “and now, may I ask what your story is?” He asked.
“What do you mean?” The man asked tilting his head.
“Well I personally do not take my girlfriend on romantic walks down dark alleys in the middle of the night.” Danny said a smile growing on his face.
“Well, first this lovely lady here is not my girlfriend, she is my sister.”
“Oh?” Danny instructed. “I suppose I shouldn’t have assumed… in any case why were you in that alley?”
“Well you see,” the woman said “we- Neil and Tony are our names by the way. Well we here some commotion coming from that alley.”
“We live across from it,” Neil supplemented.
“So like I said we here something, so we go to see what was happening, and what should we find but you. So we bring you here and put you in on of our beds.”
“Thank you, I feel better just knowing that,” Danny said
“Is there anything else you remember son?” Neil asked.
“No sorry,” Danny said, but then it occurred to him that he did remember something else. He didn’t say anything though, because he didn’t think being able to grow a tail was normal for teenagers, and he didn’t want anyone finding out he could. So instead he said he said, “I’m thirsty.”
“There’s a vending machine down stairs” Tony told him.
“Here I’ll-” Neil started but Danny interrupted.
“No let me,” Danny said rising, then seeing the look on Neil’s face he said. “Pleas I want to do something, you’ve both been so kind.”
“Okay,” said Tony taking out her wallet. “This is for the sodas.”
“But-” Danny said now it was Neil who interrupted.
“We insist,” he said. “I’d like a root bear.”
“I’ll take a gape soda,” said Tony while handing Danny three dollar bills.
“Thank you,” Danny said. “My name’s Danny by the way.”
“Well Danny, go get those sodas,” Toni Teased. The vending machine is at the bottom of the stairs at the end of the hall.
“Okay I’ll be right back,” Danny told them. The vending machine was just a few steps away from the stairs. Danny was about to put in the first of the bills, when he heard a sound from the side of the machine opposite the way he had come. So he took a look and saw a little girl.
