there's ceremonial births where everyone eats the placenta, but a fetus is just canniblism. the extent of the chinese law and the killing, or more common, the abortion of children stemmed from the fact that most families were rooting for a boy and didn't get one. being that the boy would carry on the family name and all that bullcrap. I'd heard bits about the consuption in the lesser populated areas of china, but it sounded a little gross to follow up on.
