I don't know where are you from but if you live in USA you could try to look up for it in one of those stores like Best Buy and ask for the policy return. Sometimes you can buy a product and try it out for 2 weeks or so. If I were you I would do that.
Speaking of software, the one I use is Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and Fireworks. However, I know there are also other freeware you could download from the web. How about GIMP?

Mm, yeah I have tried a tablet, but it was long ago and it worked a little weird xD [kinda like the cursor moved by itself].. but well, technology has improved so I should try one again.
But I don't live in USA so I don't really know about those stores.. I don't think a tablet is really expensive though..
..I've heard of GIMP, I just haven't downloaded it yet because I've been having some problems with my computer lately, so I think I'll just *Format C:\

So I just wanted to hear some recommendations first..
Oh and I don't have a lot of editing experience, would it be hard to give color to that poor drawing?
