Any metalheads in here? (Slipknotfags, you don't count. Sorry!)

I am just wondering if anyone here likes to listen to real metal? If so, what bands? I listen to all these bands and even more:

Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse, Death, Exodus, Symphony X, Opeth, Diablo Swing Orchestra, Incubus/Opprobrium, Butcherpriest, King Diamond/Merciful Fate, Evile, HellHammer/Celtic Frost, Venom, Warbringer, Early Man, The Saviours, Graveland, As Long As People Die, Decrepit Birth, Archaic Winter, Mortician, Cattle Decapitation, Behemoth, Arch Enemy, Trivium, Kreator, Mayhem, Sadus, Grave Digger, Doom, Anal Cunt.

Some of those bands are quite obsecure (or shortlived), but who cares? They all make great music. I recommend them all to metalheads.

I like black, thrash, and death metal. I dislike core and Nu crap. Anyone else?

Not all that bands make GREAT music. Some of them sucks HARD.
Morbid Angel is the case. You may like it, I'm not saying it's wrong, but it is NOT great music. Symphony X is great music.. Dream Theater is.. Scar Symmetry is... and a giant etc.

I pretty much recommend you to listen to:
[You probably know this one, but if not.. you're gonna love it] Job for a Cowboy:

I'm not much of a "metalhead," but I do enjoy some metal. Metallica, Mastodon, Iron Maiden, Dream Theater, Megadeth, a very small amount of Slayer and Opeth...I guess that's mostly it.

Instrumental metal, like from those guys that do the metal Metroid covers, is also awesome.

Slipknot is way too overrated. Their music is lame. I just got sick of listening to them and besides, I don't want to be known as a "maggot".

I copied that list from my YouTube profile which has my favorite bands and forgot to erase "Anal Cunt" from there. I don't think AC makes good music, just stupid music that makes me laugh. Most of those bands still make great music yeah.

Job For A Cowboy, Zimmer's Hole, and Strapping Young Lad are pretty good.

I love instrumental and video game metal. I can only think of the band Powerglove right now, but they are pretty much one of the best.

I'm more of a Metallica fan...

Haven't heard of most of those bands, Demon. :( Certain areas of my metal exposure are deficient, as yet--I went in other directions, but I'd certainly like to broaden my knowledge, and your list might be a good place to start!

By "video game metal," can I assume you mean bands like Dragonforce? They're pretty sweet, but once you've heard two or three good songs you've heard their whole album. Granted, I've only heard one album of theirs (Inhuman Rampage was it?), but I think my point remains. Any others you know of, Demon?

As far as hard/metal stuff goes, I love bands like As I Lay Dying and August Burns Red. Oh, Sleeper, as well as Blessthefall, are also great. Bring Me The Horizon is good. One band you mentioned, Arch Enemy, is solid, but I prefer -->this band<--. Bullet For My Valentine is always a fun time too.

I listen to a fair amount of hardcore/screamo stuff, but I wouldn't put it all into the "metal" category. The above names are good samples, though.

And sometimes, the indy or lesser-known stuff is where the great music is at, Demon. /hi5 I love going on Myspace and finding less popular bands, kids just starting out, who can rock it in their own unique and throat-shredding ways. Like these guys. Or these dudes. This band also has some talent.

Makes me happy. ^_^

So you don't consider or let slipknot fans "maggots"(wtf?) in cause you don't like the band? Sorry, seems a little stupid to me.

On the one hand, it *is* his thread, so he has the right to define what metal specifically he wants to talk about. Despite however right you might be in your assessment of Slipknot's metal status, I think you should respect his authorship of the intent of the thread.

On the other hand, Demon should always be aware that musical opinion is just that--opinion. Musical taste is always relative, man. ^_^

Well in all honesty I bet Slipknot would not have been mentioned if he hadn't titled it so. I just don't like the title choice you made, sorry.

Anyway, metal is low on my music list, always found it to just be a general "meh" across the board.
