ChronoTrigger all the way, DK was fun but CT is one of the greatest games ever, I still have my copy of ChronoTrigger for SNES and the PS1 re-release, one of the very few games that I think stacks of to CT for being one of those great classics is Earthbound, still got my SNES copy of that, and of course can't forgot Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, man those games were a pain in the ass to find, I really wish they'd get back around to releasing the 3rd ChronoTrigger series game, I forget what it's work in progress title was called

Chrono Trigger is far superior.
The work in progress title for the 3rd Chrono game was Chrono Break, I think.

pity votes shouldnt count but since its Jack i guess its ok
sorry jack i got kinda into the "debate"
Lets take everything into account piece by piece.
Music:
Donkey Kong for the SNES had some decent beats in it, I still remember the opening theme and krankies hut. But the music was used constantly for each level in each new part of the island except for caves which all had the same tune, and underwater which all had the same tune. it got on my nerves after maybe the second part of the island.
Chrono Trigger probably has one of the most beautiful soundtrack ever developed by a game company. Although the maps sometimes used the same piece of music again, it doesn't compare to what Donkey Kong had. Plus I never minded hearing Chrono triggers music multiple times.
Music goes to: Chrono Trigger.
Graphics:
In Chrono Trigger the graphics for the characters were in depth, 2D, and gave the characters some pretty sexy dance moves (Millenium fair and Ayla's party back in 600000 B.C.). The characters graphics changed enough to make you see how the emotion of the game and the story got to them as well as the music hitting in the right spot. The overall design of levels in this game is probably one of the best I've ever played in. The Level design and the depth that you can see in the graphics makes this one of the best games for the SNES.
In Donkey Kong however made 2D come alive with 16bit 2D/3D characters and enemies and well as stages. The way that Rare was able to take 2D to a whole new level by making these designs in a game is outstanding! The way the Characters moved made me feel as if I was using a real character. The levels, like the characters, were a 2D/3D side scroller that could possibly compare to the likes of the older marios. The graphics in this game being of a new age of fesign and playability have me wowed.
Graphics goes to: Donkey Kong.
Story:
Chrono Triggers story has depth, emotion, and everything else a good RPG needs to be a smash hit! Time traveling is a new concept in games when CT came out it was probably the first game on the market to have this feature. The character development and their back stories were excellent better then most games on the market today who's only goal is to make a pretty game.
Donkey Kong was about a monkey searching for his lost banana's... Do I really have to say more?
Story goes to: Chrono Trigger.
Overall winner: Chrono Trigger.
P.S. Chrono Trigger was followed up by Chrono Cross on the PS1. They started developing Chrono Break but wanted to use all the original staff on the CT project to make it. But now most of the staff working on the FF11 staff they aren't continuing it until they can get them all back.
P.P.S. I study a lot of gaming in my spare time. :P

you no,i totally agree but were talkin about the classics how many sequals does the origanal have, chrono tiger has how many it speaks for its self pluf DK started a revaloution along with, pacman, galaga and others from that decade
Oh, I thought you meant which is better. Well, my vote is still Chrono Trigger. That game started an RPG revolution of the gamer world. You can't mention either of those games without most people knowing what they are though.

Using that thought process does that mean that FF7 is worse than FF9? =P
It's true though they can't really be compared as they have two different roles as games, CT being a deep storyline with lots of fun and a certain level of dedication to complete.
DK being..........wait, wait i can get one..........nope crap i'm empty. ¬_¬
nejih94
02-16-2008, 01:10 AM
well,no FF7 WAS better(the 1 one was the best),but of course most people r gonna say chrono tiger was better because its newer, and i luv DK's story line run up laders and jump over berrals that a giant ape is throwing at u and save the princess,i like it simple
silkshadow
02-16-2008, 01:47 AM
thats probbably why its losing out its so simple that it gets boring fast its a good game but you kinda just do the same thing over and over where as ct is sorta an rpg where you can just divert from the story line if you get bored and do your own thing for a lil while.
i personally think that rpgs will win out over most any other type of game.
if your going to have a debate such as this then you should pick games of the same type or debate which types of games are better
nejih94
02-16-2008, 01:53 AM
:mad:im the youngest one at this site and im the only one that gets it,,,,,,,,,CT,is ages ahead of DK,but if we were comparing i dont no DK with galaga or pacman, the votes would be a little closer:mad::mad:

good point
DK is about 20 years old. But CT is about 17 years old. DK coming out in the late 80's I think and CT coming out in the Early 90's. If you really think about theya re close in year and that doesn't say much. If your saying it'll win because it's newer you are dead wrong. Personally, I would rather play CT then Mass Effect, or play Lufia 2 then Final Fantasy 7-9.
Just because of the age doesn't mean it's better or people will choose it over another game thats older. It just happens to be that DK got old fast, after the first few levels you would get tired of jumping over barrels, and climbing ladders to reach a monkey that would always run away. CT had many hours of playability in a story that is in depth and gives you characters you love to see.

Gogo's right, if you had wanted something w/ less repetitiveness you could have gone for one of the newer DK games where they were more like platform games than old school arcade

Actually that says alot, in 3 years many things change, like 3 years ago im going to say in 2004 just because its so early in 2008,
we didnt have great graphics like games have now such as, COD4 and M.E.
ect.
a few years go along ways as far a tecnology is concerned. i grew up playing DK and galaga and they kicked ass =)

yes I'll agree with you that now that is a big leap in gaming, especially w/ the games system's lifespan being about 3-4 years before the new one comes out, but late 80's early 90's, it wasn't such a big deal, the graphics and system power was still pretty much static, it was more a matter of designer innovation back then instead of letting the hardware carry your game, nowadays we still have a lot of designer innovation, look at the wii for example, but there are a dozen games put out every month that are lackluster, their only claim to fame being that the system capabilities are making it look better than the game actually is, now when you take into account the fact that Donkey Kong came out in 1981 and Chrono Trigger was in 1995 which leads to a much larger gap in system capabilities b/c one was Nintendo and one was Super Nintendo, going from what 8bit to 16bit, not a big deal by today's standards, but big enough back then, plus they had 13 years to learn how to make the game look better, but let's get back to the brass tacks, where this debate should have been from the very beginning, we aren't talking about what years they were made in, as someone pointed out already some older games are better than newer games, so age shouldn't really be an issue although I can see how some ppl might see it that way, when you get down to it, the only real question here is which one did you like to play more, that's it, not really a hard question to answer
I grew up playing those as well, and still play Galaga from time to time. But he's still saying that just because it's older people won't like it as much. That's just not true. Because Galaga coming out before DK was/is still better then DK (Just my opinion). I really do prefer the older games to the newer games as well, but most of my friends don't have this mindset because they started playing when the PS1 came out. I've been playing games since I was about 1 and my brother handed me the second controller and taught me how to play SF and SF2.
Older games are great, but if you are comparing a game with a real in depth story to a game with a plumber trying to catch a monkey to get back his girlfriend. Chances are I'm going to choose the one with the in depth story, even if the graphics are lacking (in this case the story game had better graphics, but I mean if the newer game was DK and DK had very realistic graphics like a newer game today).
Corwin

Exactly, I've been playing video games since the Atari days and on the really old home pc's when the height of pc gaming was tetris and a guy jumping out of a helicopter along w/ some more adult oriented txt based games, but yeah, don't get me wrong, I'm eagerly awaiting playing that next new game coming out, notably FFXIII is what I'm waiting for right now, but I'd set down FFXII, FFXIII, Star Ocean: TTEoT, and most of the other games in my collection to pick up something like Chrono Trigger or Earthbound, those are just incredible games, they were ahead of their time, so much so that Chrono Trigger practically shaped how RPG's are done these days, and I would love to see them remake both of those games in more contemporary formats, same story, and mostly the same controls but see what new innnovations they could add to them to make use of the new power allowed by systems such as the ps3 and wii

ok guys this is the way it went down he said dk was the best game ever i said chrono trigger it went back and forth till he said how about a debate. the only reason all the other stuff was brought in was cuz he was losing and he wanted to make it look like we had an advantage that wasnt fair to his game
but the advantage is that all in all chrono trigger is an all around more intresting game thats it.
so back to the debate ORIGINAL DONKEY KONG VS CHRONO TRIGGER
WHICH IS THE BETTER GAME
I honestly can't believe that this debate has lasted this long...
