over the last decade rap has taken over society,and its all the same generic crap.what do think,i like some other opinions so get back to me:D

I am in total agreement, nejih94. It also seems as though a lot of rappers resort to stealing the songs of other, true artists and completely ruining them. That's another thing, I can't stand it when a rapper tries to act all high, mighty and prideful when referring to each other as artists and musicians:

1) They aren't singing, they are speaking rhymes with a normal voice.
2) Behold, what most rap consists of: hoes, bitches, Cadillacs, homies, dogs, gangsters, law breaking, sex, money, booty smacking, need I go on? It's mindless. I'm not racist but I am genre-ist and I'm damn proud of it. Rap is NOT music as far as I am concerned.

The music industry is filled with sell-outs and it's no longer about the music for most, in my opinion, just about how many albums sell. It's a bunch of blind people perverting the idea of good music and everyone else is buying into it because it's a fad amongst today's youth. It seems as though children are having more of an influence over their parents then reversed.

Most of what I have just stated is also true for Hip Hop. God, I just can't stand how bad America's taste in music is, I honestly just get so riled up sometimes. It's ridiculous. I love music with a passion and when somebody claiming creativity and genius, but in reality containing no real talent, is showered with praise, favor and awards, I just begin to loathe society even more than I already do.

I would have to agree with Jack. Music has fallen upon the ears of the tone def and twisted into something that can't be compared to something like Beathoven or a good piece of Motzart.

When I hear people claiming that some rapper is a musical genius I have to step in and even though risk getting the crap kicked out of me, state my opinion on how they aren't, who is, and how the person who is is far better and the person they are calling a genius.

All you need for a hit rap song is six things mentioned: Sex, Drugs, money, running from cops, Hoes, and rims. There i could probably come up with a hit rap song off the top of my head.

If you want a good rapper, MC Chris is one name that stands out. He's a man who can make an entire rap about Star Wars. How many people can really do that. Other then him I really only like one other rap group which is People Under the Stairs. If you want good rap you should check out MC Chris and People Under the Stairs and forget all the others cause they don't compare to any musician ever, even the most horrible guitar student ever.

Actually, I only have high standards when it comes to music and gaming. Anywhere else other then music and gaming my standards are very very low. :P

And there have been plenty of successful rap songs without mentioning guns or gangs. Well gangs at least.

i think the reason rap is so popular is that it touches on many Taboo subjects
like sex and drugs although im not a big fan of it at all.

In my opinion rap has not at all taken over the world and it is far from it. And as I notice only low class poor people really listen or make rap and some get rich on it. In my school where we pay 7000 euros a year we only have like 5 people on 350 that listen to rap. Then we look at the professional schools (That is very easy and contains a lot of retards) where school is free and they almost all listen to rap. Well that is how it is in my country.

Alright, so, I'm going to be hated in here...but I'm coming to rap's defense. Don't get me wrong, rap is most definitely NOT my favorite genre (in fact not even close), but I do believe that there are talented rappers if you search deep enough. Stuff that's on the radio isn't going to be good rap. It's just not. They're going to be singing catchy tunes for people who can't comprehend anything besides brand names and money. I've heard lots of rappers talk about social injustice, fun stuff, completely random things...plenty of diversity if you really look hard. Chris, I must say that thinking that rap isn't music is a very closed-minded approach. If anyone is interested in hearing some of these underground rap artists I just talked about, look up Deltron (he raps about living in the year 3030), K-os, M.I.A., or some Mos Def.

I agree with most of the people here most rap i can't stand. My sister was freaking brainwashed by her friends to listen to it and i'm the one who suffers. Little kids (though i'm not that old myself) just love it way too much. Now rock is the thing to listen to and maybe even some hip-hop, but rap is just no good. I'm not saying that all rappers suck and have no talent. They actually might be ok but i just dont like them.

however, can anyone tell me the difference between hip-hop and rap? Cuz' I've never been able to figure out where the line is.

I don't really like anything like that, well, maybe some of the oldschool rap rock stuff, what can I say I'm a child of the 90's? But anyway, I do like Emenim. I know I'll draw some flack for it, but the guy can be freaking hilarious.
