Which do you prefer? What are your opinions? What concerns do you have? Overall, please, share your views on why one way of communication through words is better than the other.
Personally, I think typing handicaps people and creates results of failure. Especially, when an individual has to handwrite an exam for highschool or worse...college. People seem to depend on technology more and more everyday. Even though using tech may be easier, it still has its flaws.
Example:
Student: "Oh shit...my speech was completely wiped clean."
Friend: *pulls out index cards with notes on them* "Luckeeey!!!"
Typing and the use of technology may have its side effects on the order of things, but i feel less threatened by it knowing that i am well prepared.

-Makes 3 saves of everything I write, on multiple formats, and knows how to use a printer, or can just take a flash drive cd or floppy with me where I go-
Now when writing by hand -Spends 3 times the amount of time putting it all down and getting hand cramps, and stuffs the frail easily crumpled bendy paper into wherever I can shove it

I was thinking about this topic a few days ago and came to an understanding by myself (huge accomplishment). TYping and handwriting both have their own beneefits. For me typing is way better. When i write, i tend to have my thoughts all over the place all disorganized. But when i type it'ss more easier for me to organize everything. Handwriting has its own benefits as well. Being the visula learner i am. If i write down something instead of typing it, i learn it better than typing it on the computer like for example taking notes, learning language, etc. Though my speech may be eqvalent to a high school drop out, typing makes me sound..somewhat smarter (so i think) and i can think much better than when i am talking so...Typing wins for my opinion.

That's another thing typing does. Typing diminishes handwriting skills and that's kind of bad too if you think about it.

I plead the norm. My handwriting has always looked like the cross result of a monkey trying to learn cursive with a child's ability to write in print.

Well sucks for you..jk.
I know alot of people who have bad handwriting skill but they are so smart. Smart than me. If you have bad handwriting you have bad handwriting. i have bad handwriting, but im trying to perfect it. I hate it and i forgot how to write cursive so im practicing again. Maybe if you practice, you might get it but you don't have to if you don't.

Same here. I learned it in the 3rd grade and i was nasty at writing it but then i forgot (weirdly) and i was stuck copying someon eelse's handwriting that messed up my own so now it so nasty. I hate it with a burning passion and i would do anything to fix it. I just want to write cursive people!!! lol

My grandfather and I write back and forth to one another every month or so, and I've always taken note to the generation gap in our letters. My grandfather like many of yours, I'm sure, was brought up in a schooling system that demanded (I should likely repeat the word 'demanded') proper writing skills. His penmanship is quite remarkable and I'm not ashamed to say I'm quite envious of it. I've never been graceful with a pen, and calligraphy in any form is hardly the art i was cut out for. The slower I write the more beautiful my letters and words will become, but often times when we write it's under pressure of time. As well, I can hardly stay on track of my thoughts if I write slowly, so it proves rather frustrating for me. My grandfather on the other hand writes flawlessly, in perfect lines on unlined paper, clearly legible, and without errors. Perhaps it's the way we're trained, though I didn't really use a keypad for writing until college. Before that I would write my lessons in class, write my speeches and letters and so forth by hand, and pray that the receiving end would make sense of it. Now I'm bound to a computer to write, and yet, still my mind moves faster than my fingers, but at least I can keep track of my thoughts for the most part. I write to my grandfather on the computer and print out my letters. I've explained to him that it's not out of laziness or lack of time, but more for his benefit to be able to read something that doesn't look like it was written by a dyslexic kindergartener. The only time I'm praised with a pen is when I sign my name, but perhaps that's simply because I'm cutting a cheque...

Handwriting. Almost all of my creative writing is, in its original form, scattered across many notebooks. And since I write something in them every day, that's by far the dominant sort of writing I do.

Handwriting or typing? I pick neither and go with the voice recognition software. So much easier, and the hands barely have any work to do.

I like both. My handwriting is very neat so I have no problems when it comes to getting handwritten assignments up in school but I'm very good at typing as well. I handwrite all of my stories, songs, poems before I type them up on the PC.

Handwriting for compositions and artistic stuff like that. A typewriter is for work simply but I really like the clank click noises they make.

Typing looks cleaner, and some people can type faster than they can write.
You could always hand write something and then type it out. Perfect both skills.

I would prefer to use Computers when it comes to righting a letter or doing a school project of some sort. The facts are because of the grammer and spell check. Dont get me wrong its up to you to learn your language and literature skills and is just as important to learn how to rite onto paper... Who knows we could have a major blackout from years to come down the road.

...i agree!,.when you type,.you save time and pain in your hands,.also,.the result is clean and neat!,.
but when you write,.you hand hurts,.takes a lot of time,.and thers a high risk that the result will not be as good as the typed one!,.
as long as i dont forget how to write,.why not type?,.hahah!,.♥

it depends what i'm writing for. if its a paper for school, we usually have to type it. but if its a letter to a friend or something like that, i'd probably just handwrite it. i dont have bad handwriting so it doesnt really matter which for me.

Typing IS faster and easier, not to mention fixing mistakes is a snap, but it can all easly be deleted by accident or on porpuse by someone else, handwritting can be a pain, takes loger, fixing a mistake usually sucks, and its easier to mess up, but it is pretty hard to lose it or it being lost/deleted by accident/someone else, in other words, its more secure. So depends on what you're doing is the way of writting you should use.

I guess I'm good at both. Granted I'm better suited to write stuff. The only concern I have for writing is that horrid chicken scratch. I sometimes wonder if teachers who grade papers from students who wrote like that actually find it legible or not. It's the same with typing I guess. Is it really that hard to type out a four letter word like "your", "that" , and "this" ??? I can understand if you're texting someone and you punch in "ur", "dat", and "dis", but typing it out like that? Honestly, it would make your life so much easier if you just typed it the way it's supposed to be spelled.

I prefer typing. Although there's nothing wrong with the way my handwriting looks, the problem is I find it difficult to transfer my thoughts to paper. Typing is much easier for this since I can type a lot quicker. Transferring ideas onto paper disrupts the flow because it's too slow and it's harder to fix mistakes and rearrange sentences. This, I must admit, is an extreme nuisance when at school writing an essay or just simply answering questions in my workbook.
Maybe I should start practicing putting my thoughts down on paper?

I say both but I usually type when I write a story or something. As for the speed, I'm not espicially fast when it comes to typing, guess it comes from much writing on paper in school. My handwriting actually looks pretty good so I often use to write when I make up characters for my stories.

O.K. I'm an author so this is important to me. I find that when writing the the final rough draft(that is the one that will be edited and posted/published[hopefully]). Typing is best. but when writing the firs rough draft(that is the one that it doesn't matter if any one else can read) pencil and paper are best (the ideas flow better).

I do a lot of writing, and I do both, but I like typing better.
Because:
1. my handwriting sucks.
2. easier to fix/rewrite something.
2. easier to share with others.
But if I can't get online, I write in a notebook and type it later.
