what is it?

ive just been in japan for 2 weeks and there was one anime that seemed to be really really popular, there were posters for it everywhere. it was written in kanji so i couldn't read it but i will try to describe...

there was a boy dressed in a european gotic suit type thing and holding something, the name of the anime was written in a very complicated kanji which was black and very gothic. the background to the adverts and mangas (the book shops there are incredible) was white...

has anyone got any ideas what this might be?

has anyone got any ideas what this might be?Why can't you simply ask someone to translate it for you? Or at least write it it hiragana/katakana/romaji?
I would just simply ask someone who works at the manga/anime store. -____-"

Are you sure it was an anime?

The only anime I know that that sounds like is D.Gray Man. It's set in the 19th century and its meant to be gothic. I have an album about it, check it to see if that's what you're talking about...

im pretty sure it was an anime, there wasn't as much fuss about manga, though i suppose it might have been, still it looked pretty cool.

then I'm stumped...
the other Gothic anime that I can think of are Vampire based anime...
Vampire Knight, Rosario Vampire, etc.

ah well, we may find out what it is next year or so, when it has been translated and become really popular, and i have probably forgotten about it.

Wow. This thread was dead for so many months... but I noticed the user who made it still shows up on the site so s/he might find your answer still useful? Or perhaps not : P I doubt s/he is still visiting Japan unless s/he moved over there.
