View Full Version : Mac or Window? which is better

Which one is better? I been using window for long as I can remember.
This is what I've heard from several sources over the years:
PC's are for the more computer illiterate users like people who only use computers for basic needs while Mac's seem to be for people that are more versed in the inner-workings of computers and such. Mac's also are apparently popular amongst graphic artists and people that use large and complicated programs in their line of work.

ok well i am just a bit bias on my opinion but here it is.
I would say windows is better. Mac in the past have been known for more for the graphic editing and music editing stuff put you can find the same programs for windows now too. Also there are many more programs you will be able to find for window that you wont be able to find for mac. So in all i would always suggest windows.

true windows can have most mac items but sometimes don't work as well like browsers firefox doesn't work as well on a mac like safari on windows. i like using photoshop and garage band on a mac than a windows computer. i think on the newer macs the new os can have windows applications that actually work. i might be wrong on that part so please correct me if i am. right now apple is doing better than microsoft in the stocks. i have a mac and it's not bad unless you want to play games like diablo eve online and other rpg games you have to d/l then you are pretty much screwed on that part.
Well, there really is no "better" per-say. But, based on opinions, Macs are more work computers. Used by graphics artists, music mixers, ect. Where as Windows is more of a gamers kind of operating system.
The fact that some people say one is better then the other is just that they are ignorant about what the other is used for.
But then there are the other OS's used by the computer savy. Linux is strictly a Programmers OS. I used to run it back when I was learning about the backend of a computer OS. But Now I run Windows as I can game and use PS for art.

It is true that there really isnt any better just some personal choice in what you like and what you want to do. Though Now mac and windows can each do just about everything the other can do now.
And yes you can now even install windows on to a mac machine.

A big reason for linux getting so few viruses is because so few people use it. MOst people who write viruses do it to cause the most harm possible and the best way to do that is on a windows platform.

i have a friend that uses a mac and from what iv'e seen its better than a pc could ever hope to be.
the only problem with macs are that there are fewer games that can be played on them other than that they blow everything else out of the water

that's not exactly true. It is part of it, but the other thing to consider is how viruses work. they take advantage of flaws in the code, something windows is not at all lacking in, and something that is fixed very quickly in open source OSes like Linux, freeBSD, etc. Which, I might add, are very similar to OSX, which is built on BSD.
but like Gogo said way back when, its a matter of what you want to do. If you want to game, run Microsoft, though, XP is still the way to go right now. If you want to do photo/video/music editing get a mac. if you want to completely control what your OS does, get Linux. If you learn how to use it Linux can be better than either Windows or OSX, but takes more knowledge to work.
the other thing to consider is whether you want to be able to trick your machine. a PC or linux box (which is the same except for the OS) have for more customability than a MAC does, though apple is getting better. the other things to consider is cost. 700 bucks will build a good pc, but MACs cost a lot more than that.
But, everyone likes different things right? ::D:

You know if the guy who created mac wasn't so paranoid then he would have been way richer than the guy who owns windows. mac had better use for art, music, and that jazz. Windows is just more user friendly, and have all the basic needs. Most music companies, or any other thing related to that use the mac, while the business offices use the windows.

actually, there was a point in time when all the smart money was saying that windows would be completely destroyed by MAC. it never happened. and a lot of offices, and probably a few music and video groups, run Linux, or some other open source OS.
I'm content to run whatever suits my purposes, which is either Linux or windows.

Depends what you're going for, Apples are sexy, and they're very good for professionals, whether that's for picture editing, film editing, music editing. I'm not sure why, but that's what you'll usually find in studios. Where as PCs are much more homely, they have much more applications and games, and from what I know, they are a good deal more powerful and upgradeable. But what a Apple can do which a PC can't, is that it can run both operating systems, I'm not sure about Linux Ubuntu, but it could probably run that as well. I have a PC but I want a Apple Notebook soooo bad.

a mac can now run windows and OSX. open source OSes (which are the way to go) will run on whatever the team developing them wants them to run on. so yes, ubuntu does run on fairly modern macs.

Personaly i like my PC which is not to say i like Windows. i dislike the problems it has and the constant reminders by my friends that it is stupid but im stuck in a rut of not wanting to change and learn a new way of computing ill most likly have windows on my computer till the day either it dies or i do. (this is do to the face that im stuborn and dont want to have to do things anyother way other thatn the way i've done them my whole life) i dream of MAC's and Linux and the freedom that comes with them but alas......

I just got my imac today, geared to the tits and it's pretty damn impressive. It's been a while since I ran off a mac, but my pc started to go down the yellow brick road to garbage city, so i had to get a new comp. I'm in photography, one of THOSE trades that everybody attributes macs to. If one thing, based mostly for image working, mac displays are quite easily some of the best you can get your hands on. The image quality is astounding. I opened a photo today and had to walk away cuz it was too ridiculous how much better it looked from my last monitor.
I don't agree too much with the ease of use of windows, I find mac way more idiot friendly. and while I did have to go through and replace a lot of my software for mac (which was a bit of a pain) I don't see too great a problem as I've got everything I need on here and then some. Tho There's not as many upgrades that can be made which is a bit of a downer. Plus as mentioned before about linux, the same is somewhat true for mac that viruses are minimal in comparison to windows. less to worry about.
My only complaint is quicktime now...god how I hate quicktime...that's bad...but I've got a remote control for my computer now! that's good!

Personally I have a had both types of machines , Macs fall down in terms of gaming in that not many companies port their products to mac, But Macs are amazing work computers and the OS is very stable from my experience with it as compared to windows. Its all about the experience you want.

This thread would look much better if someone made a poll. I don't feel like reading all of the posts... to find out which one is "preferred".
I've been working on Windows ever since I got my first PC.... (and that was when I started high-school)... I graduated and changed the platform. I started working on Macs... every single day.
I am not one of those Mac-maniacs who get "sweaty" when they see a Mac... I'm no freak, no fanatic... I've got to know Mac pretty well, not only the "performance" but mainly from the technical point of view. I was taught how to maintain and fix Macs. I have one thing to say. It is a horrible story. A disaster.
Mac's interface and etc. might look friendly and neat.. but nothing beyond it. Not to mention how expensive Mac is!!! They must be insane.
<sarcasm> Sometimes, I might act like a snob, who likes to have "the best of the best"... but I am no fool. I don't like to overpay for something that is not even 1/2 worthy its price. For the same money I could have a powerful "monster" by Dell or AlienWare... or else.
If Macs was really for the designers and graphics... no one would come up with such a crappy mouse! It drives me crazy. Every time when I work on Mac.. I use my Razor. Mac's mouse is a mistake or some cruel joke! :dead:

I don't think I've met anyone in graphics or anything of the like that took their mac mouse out of the box. usually it's wacom tablets. very useful.....after the month it takes to get use to it....Yup. I have a good tablet, too. But a really good mouse can make a better and preciser work than any tablet would ever do (at least for me). I think it has to do with someone's preferences, too. I personally feel more comfortable working using a mouse. For one instance, mouse advantage over the tablet is that there are those with a much higher resolution, and more adequate detail. But what do I know, right? :/ :dead:
Anyway, Mac' standard mouse is a no-no... :dead:

What I don't get is why do they say "Mac" and "PC" as if they are different? PC stands for "Personal Computer", so a PC is any type of computer you would use, regardless of the OS...
I use Windows, but I don't have anything against the Apple OS. The both have their own merits. But one thing I can't stand is that Mac owners will often think they are better because they use Macs. Like on those Mac ads. I can't stand them. It's just a damn computer. Shut the hell up already.

It won't ever work. It's superficial. Gadgets break, old technology get replaced by the new hi-def equipment... junk is being thrown out... and people? Is their ego gone as soon as their Mac is trashed? Or is it "replaced" by a new gizmo?

analogZero is my man!! ;) And absolutely right.
First of all, the quality of the products have drastically changed. Just as Zero said.
Kenshy asked me if I buy cheap, second-hand gadgets. haha, that made me smile and chuckle a little bit ^^
Nah. Is the price considered to be the prove or determinant of the quality? Price, in my own opinion, it's just an "agreement" between you and someone who's trying to sell u some crap. You may or may not agree to it. Most of the times, we are left w/o any choice but go with it...
However, often times prices are inadequate to the value of the products. How much does it cost to produce/manufacture something? Prices are not based on those factors.
Anyway, I do buy "cheap" stuff... sometimes. I mean, I can go and get something for just $1, to save some money on something more important..... like my laptop which cost me almost $4k (for which, on the other hand, I would get a "cheap" Mac :P)
I am saving on certain things to be able buy other stuff. But we were talking about Mac and how they make it ridiculously expensive, inadequate to the capabilities.
If I would spend more/a lot of money.. will my ego grow? ^^

Speaking of Vista, there is already a service pack, which corrects and improves the original Vista. I am not a fan of Vista but I think they will improve it so it's going to be user-friendly system.
