Kingdom Hearts 1 had a pretty sad ending, it made the second game's ending so much happier though.

omg! no doubt both Crisis Core and FFX had sad endings. Although, i liked both, i cried hardcore with Crisis Core, everytime i see i still cry. awww, poor ZACK!:-(

The saddest I've played would be FF7 Crisis Core. Even if you knew it was going to happen it was still surprising.

I cant understand why you think ffX had a sad ending.If you see it throughout the ending letters you see that Tidus lives... or thats how I understood it...anyway the saddest end have to be crisis core

Going back to ps1 here,
Klonoa: Door to Phantomile, that was pretty sad, right at the start your grandfather dies. Then throughout the game you have this friend which is pretty much your brother (the grandfather adopted him) and you build a good relationship with him and then right at the end he betrays you, used some magic to place all those happy memories in your head of playing and having a good time, so that was all fake but if that wasnt bad enough after you defeat the end boss, your friend uses his magic and sends you into another dimension all by yourself. (some of this might be wrong its been some years since iv played this, but thats essentially what happens)

In a different sense of the word "sad" it could be Ocarina, as it sparked the huge amount of sad debates on whether there is a split in the Zelda timeline (there so is).

Okami....Idk y it just makes me cry during the ending...it's not sad or anything...i just know that thats it..no more Okamination anymore...forever....i still hope to this day that they make another sequel to Okami....Q.Q
