Doesn't it just tick you off when the Japanese use a girl's voice (deepened) for a guy's role instead of using a guy's voice for a guy's role? Like Yukito in "CardCaptor Sakura" or Kenshin in "Rurouni Kenshin" ("Samurai X")?
It just boggles my mind. Why do they do that? Do they run out of male voice actors?

Oh well.

Take care,

I think they do that because they don't want their characters voices to change over time. A guy's voice will deepen as he gets older, whereas a girl's doesn't.

They used a guy to voice Sagara Sanosuke in "Rurouni Kenshin" and he sounded great throughout the course of the series.

Isn't that the same for Goku? I don't really mind if it works. But if it is too high pitched or just does not fit it can become an annoyance. But in most cases it usually works.

Well isn't Sanosuke an adult? Getting an adult to voice an adult makes sense but an adult to voice a teen doesn't make sense. Adults' voices stay the same, teens are now getting into their changing states...

Did you forget? The same thing happens in the U.S. Many children are voiced by women, Ash Ketchum of Pokemon is voiced by a woman, it's nothing you need to bitch about.

I can confirm Quietchat's statement about women doing children's voices in American cartoons. Bart Simpson, of the Simpson, is voiced by Nancy Cartwright. She does a number of other children's voices in the same show. Linky for proof (http://www.tv.com/the-simpsons/show/146/cast.html) 'Tis nothing new.

Ok...but that doesn't explain why Kenshin has to have a girl voice. It's stupid, really. Do you think Kenshin is young or something? He's older than Sanosuke.

Well Kenshin's character is portrayed as being more gentle than Sanosuke... unless he's in a fight. Trying to make up for his past...

I wish my voice suddenly changed when I became angry. But I suppose to be fair, this sort of thing happens in countless anime.

I'll just say this: I think creators are really going overboard in portraying their male characters as "so" gentle to literally sound like a woman.

eh it goes with the whole androgynous theme...

Right...but that's what bothers me.

But really, think about the characters in the anime. Kenshin Himoura for example. Would you really want him to have a gruff male voice? It doesn't fit with the character. That's why he's voiced by a female, that way you get the sensative tone in Kenshin's voice.

I don't think he had that voice in Samurai X, though.

I only notice the female voice when I read about the seiyū, so I don't really care.

you do realize they do the exact same thing with american voice actors as well as mutliple other languages. and fyi, most boys that haven't had their voice broken yet sound like girls.
also, i'm a female and i do male acting and i can assure you i am quite a feminine girl.

I can't remember if it's the japanese or english voice, but for one of them a woman voices Naruto.
It's all a matter of whether or not you notice sometimes. The boy of all boys, peter pan used to be theatrically played by women up until around the end of the previous century. Barnie the lovable dinosaur and the irritating JarJar Binks were both portrayed by black men! oh my. people make a stink about it, but your day would've went on just as it would any other, had you not known.
