Hey every one ... ^^

well i have been thinking since we all live in the real world ...why not make use of our time here ^^.. i personally love books ...and i love to read ..which i'm sure most of you are ... so why not recomend useful reading material other than manga to enrich our lives :D.... the idea is to list a book you have read or reading a book could be any good reading material in your openion but NOT manga ... and then we could all discuss it and state our opinions ... this way we could all get a chanse to read new books that suit our interests.

well i'l strats off ...
i'm reading a book called : men women and relationships.
the author : Jhon Gray Ph.D ( the same person who worte men are from mars and women are from vinuse)

so far it has been great it is very captivating ...and there isn't a moment where you get bored .... it has reallt opened my eyes to a lot of things and made dealing wiht my brothers and father easier ( it's wierd isn't it ? XP) .... i really recomend every one to read no matter what age you are because it talks about men and women in general .... it shows you real life situations and how each gender handles it ^^

please state your opinion ..and if you like a new book .
can't wait for your replies ^^

I personally like to stick to the fantasy side of reading so you'll pretty much get good material outta me. Like anyone reading this must immidiantly go out and start the Forgotten Realms series by R.A. Salvatore. Personally i like the Drizzt Series the best. Begginning book of this series is called Homeland. There is not a moment in any of these books that will let you put the book down. There's also a few smaller books i've read from the school library such as an interesting series entitled So you wanna be a Wizard and yes it is supposed to sound like a 5 year olds book. However, that is a very captivating series of about 7-8 300-350 page books. So its a very good fast read for when your bored. Now another recommendation is that anyone who has not read the Harry Potter books because they have been told bad things about them, should be shot in the face for not trying to form their own oppinion of the book. So go buy them.

~Peace.

I am the Cheese by Robert Cormier
des: mystery, aboy seeks his father while at the same time the story shifts every now and then to where he is being asked Q by a 'doctor' and help him find out about his past. the only way this book gets u hooked is because nothing is resolved till the end.

I like to read mystery books, those that makes you guess who did that and how is it going to end.

I buy books too. But I don't have money at this moment, so I am forced to read some of my mother's books, which I wonder if she ever bother to read (hi mom). The last two books I read are that "Rosary Girls" and "Tallgrass". "The Rosary Girls" is about the peculiar murders among girls, their hands bolted, with rosaries at their hands.. "Tallgrass" is about the life of this girls living near a Japanese Intern camps during WWII.

A little thriller, fantasy and horror: Darren Shan books
Darren Shan: Darren Shan (vampire books)
Darren Shan: Demonworld

For those who likes fantasy I would recommend the Warcraft books. They are amazing, I have read hundreds of books but it's one of the best fantasys.

I would also recommend Vavyan Fable but the fact that she is a hungarian writer and I doubt that her books are translated to English.

Desireé is historical book from the French Revolution.

Mugen-> I loved The da Vinci code I was shoked when it turned out all of the facts in the book turned out to be fake. Nearly not even a little one what is true... :D But I love the theory, I would accept this one rather than the Bibel.

I love to read sci-fi books and one that i don't get bored with is:

The Enders Game Collection by Orson Scott Card: it is set in the future where the military trains kids to be soldiers and they are sent out to a camp built in space. Ender is the main character and goes from the runt to being the top kid solider out there and saving the world.. its a collection that will keep you wanting more

The books I get into tend to be mixed between traditional type fiction and complete and utter randomness. I' quite notorious for reading the backs of books, especially ones I've never heard of. I'm easily captivated by titles and covers, but as the old axiom states 'don't judge a book by it's cover' I make sure to read summaries and sometimes even sit there for a half hour reading the first chapter or so to see if I like it. I buy most of my books or borrow them, cuz I don't seem to read as quickly as most people. my own curse I guess. anyhow, some book recommendations would be...

J.D. Salinger - nine stories
nine easy reads that are very brilliantly written. also if you're a ghost in the shell fan, you'll recognize the laughing man, and other little tidbits. failing finding this book, catcher in the rye is a good ol' classic read.

Patrick Suskind - Perfume
I borrowed this from my friend and it was possibly the most captivating book I've ever read. There's a movie for it too that's really good, but as expected the book's better.

Tom Wolfe - the electric kool-aid acid test
The true Magical Mystery Tour, hosted by Ken Kesey. very trippy.

There might be more, but those are 3 I thoroughly enjoyed.

mugen : i hear the code is quite the book.

Bee & badluckcat : darren shan sounds interesting ....i think i'm gonna start on that ...and i like the title demons &angels cat^^...

syniXxX: since you like mystery book i would recomend agatha cristy books....she is old ..but her books are great ....you can never expect what's going to happen untill you read it all.

ricecake: i would recomed the dune seriese by Brian Herbert and Kevin J.Anderson...it's six novels and i believe it's sci-fi ^^..i only have one though.

lemonek: i like those kind of books too ...i like self development books like mind maps by tony bozan (not sure about the spelling )... and also "who moved my cheese" it's a short read but very enjoyable and you can learn a lot from ^^

analog Zero: i'm exactly the same ...i can't just buy a book ..that is why i asked for a desription ^^....i think the second book you recomended is nice ..i love captivating books :D

it's nice to see ppl getting interested ^^

I'm a sci-fi guy, but one of my favorite book series is the Resident Evil series by S. D. Perry

They are smoewhat based off the games and inbetween games. They really are interesting, they have action and zombies! Plus they are written nicely so you don't get bored because of the talking.

Well for the younger ppl (11-15) Piers Anthony wrote some really good fiction that is enjoyable and easy to read. I am a HUGE fan of the Harry Potter Series, I did enjoy Twilight by Stephanie Myers (cute for hs ppl). On a more adult note, anything by Dan Brown and James Patterson. For people into romance Christine Feehan series (the one about soldiers) very good.

I've always been a big fan of dystopia stories. My favorite books are:
The Giver (series) - Lois Lowry
Farenheit 451 - Ray Bradbury
1984 - George Orwell
Brave New World - Aldous Huxley

I read some fantasy as well, although not too often. I must say my favorite in this genre are Cornelia Funke's Ink series (Inkheart, Inkspell...can't wait for Inkdeath!). I also liked her story the Thief Lord (it's a cute movie, too).

Most of my reading, however, is limited to my textbooks for my classes, so I don't get too much of a chance for much recreational reading, which is really just too sad because I totally love reading.

Wow i can't believe i forgot about the Artemis Fowl collection. Its 4 books and if like this was a person it would be o.p. as hell. Simply put the series is about a young boy who finds the... "fairy" world. This kid is like just amazing. He's like 12 in lets say.. 'not quite legal' affairs. And he's GOOD at it. Now let me make a decision that will solve alot of problems for the many people already interested in the book but not quite sure on whether or not to buy it... GO BUY IT! The books are too good to debate on just go buy it.:P

I also would like to recommend the J.R.R. Tolkien books. Alot of you just went out and watched the movies and said to hell with reading the books. To you people i say this. You have not experienced Lord of the Rings until you have read the books cover to cover.

Also another recommendation is Narnia series. Its about 7 books long and is a really good read.

Thats right foks im already done with the new book by christopher Paoline...brisinger book 3 in the in the inheritance. I got the book the morning of the release and by 10:30am i started reading it with only a few breaks like to eat dinner with the family and stuff i finished it at 2:30am. If you have ever read any of the books you know this is a great book once you pick it up. Like the 2 books befor it i was hooked by the 3rd page. This book really has everything in it. If you are one of the people like me that are really able to get into what you are reading you will feel the emotion of whats going...your heart will race...you will be left breathless more then once. And befor the book ends you will cry atlest once. This book is well worth it the only down side to this book is.....that book 4 isnt written yet so once again u are left pissed b,c you dont want to stop reading. Other then that it is the by far one of the best books i have ever read. If u want a few spoilers let me know im sure i can think of a way to want to read it more.

City of bones by cassandra claire, completely amazing, first time i read it i forgot to breath most of the way through one of the chapters. Also James patterson is an amazing author, he is a very twisted man but definaly worth a try, specially if you like alot of blood, gore and sex. Also i'd like to state The host is better than the twilight series.

Hey, I'm a huge book fan ^^
I read all kinds of books but right now I'm into classical books,,,
Here are some books that I've read:

*Jane Eyre
Author: Charlotte Bronte

*A Tale of Two Cities
Author: Charles Dickens
This is one of my all time favorite books :)

*The Twilight Series (I'm pretty sure a lot have read them, they're really good)
Author: Stephanie Meyer

*My Sister's Keeper
Author: Jodi Picoult
This book is based on a true story like most of her books, it's really good.

*The Harry Potter books
Author: J.K. Rowling

*I've also read a lot of books by Danielle Steel, some are:
Remembrance, Heartbeat, Accident, The Wedding, Granny Dan, Echoes, Wings...
Her books are really nice and I consider them easy-reading (light reading) ^^

*I've also read some business books (I'd say they're more like biographies of successful business men) some that I read about were:
The Google Story, Steve Jobs, Richard Branson...
I don't know a lot of people who are into these books (biographies) but they're good and very interesting. I loved the google story.

These are just some of the books that I read, lol I'm kind of a bookworm ^^
I'm now about to finish The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald and I'm starting
Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen, has anyone read it?

i read alot of books but my favorate books r :(idont remember any of the writers)
1.His Dark Materials .the golden compass trilogy
(the golden compass--The Subtle Knife--The Amber Spyglass)
dont think about the movie cuz it just suck , an has noting to do with the books
it talks about Lyra Belacqua, who has grown up in a fictional
Jordan College, Oxford. She prides herself on her ability
to lie with "bare-faced conviction". and IN HER WORLD people have deamons which
represent their owners personality. if u love fantasy or adventure books u must have this.

2.the batimaeus tailogy
(The Amulet of Samarkand--The Golem’s Eye--Ptolemy’s Gate)
ihave read harry potter but belive me this is sooo much better .
its in london , where mgicians rule the country with thyr demons (spirits)
the first book is about a trainee magician boy(nathaniel) and his djinni(bartimaeus)
but later in th 2nd book a new girl show up and she just hate anything related to
magic ...................
and i am in love withis tri in fact i'll read it a third time
3.the da vinci code
its simply perfect nothing more nothing less .

...........................i cant remeber anything else ...so later

WOW sound awsome ..i think i am going to buy it today :D

I love to read sci-fi books and one that i don't get bored with is:

The Enders Game Collection by Orson Scott Card: it is set in the future where the military trains kids to be soldiers and they are sent out to a camp built in space. Ender is the main character and goes from the runt to being the top kid solider out there and saving the world.. its a collection that will keep you wanting more

Best series I have ever read! I can't wait to find out what happens to Bean X(

Orson Scott Card, Michael Crichton, Arthur C. Clarke, Brian Jaques, J.R.R. Tolkein, Isaac Asimov, Robert A. Heinlein, C.S. Lewis, Norton Juster... a few good authors.

One incredible book I would like to highly recommend is "Childhood's End" by Arthur C. Clarke. Agree with the ideas or not, this is a suspenseful sci-fi that will keep any audience captured in its pages and will definately make you think.

I've read Fahrenheit 451 and 1984. I liked them quite a bit.

The book I'd recommend is The Perks of Being a Wallflower by, Stephen Chbosky. It's a coming of age book that has to do with a boy name Charlie who sends the you (the reader) letters about his life. There are some sexual content and drug affiliation so it's not really suppose to be for an audience that are younger than 13. If you like Catcher in the Rye then you'll most defiantly like this.

I like books too as does everyone else who seems to be/seemed to be replying to this thread ::D:

Anywho, a few good books that I would recommend are:

- Red Dragon by Thomas Harris
- The Silence of the Lambs by Thomas Harris
- Hannibal by Thomas Harris
- The Harry Potter books as someone's already mentioned
- Harry Potter
- And finally, The Lord of the Rings.

Where to start?

The Hyperion Cantos by Dan Simmons
The Terror also by Dan Simmons
The Wheel of Time Series by Robert Jordan
The Vampire Chronicles by Ann Rice
The Door to December, Dragon Tears, and Midnight, Dean Koontz
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, The Restaurant at the End of the Universe, Life, the Universe and Everything, So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish, and Mostly Harmless by Douglas Adams
That's all for now. I'll have to go through my collection when I have time and post more

The Malazan Book of the Fallen by Steven Erikson
The Shannara series by Terry Brooks

The Age of Five also by Trudi Canavan
Discworld series by Terry Pratchett
Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice
The Deathgate Cycle by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman
Temeraire series by Naomi Novik
Hunter's Moon by David Devereux

I love this tread so THANKYOU for starting it.

I read ALOT and always have, which sadly is a problen now cos I read so fast (I read the largest harry potter book during a 4 hour train ride) so books never really last me long, so suggestions and lots of them are very welcome!

I think it was ricecake that said Endersgame series and I completly agree, its amazing and will make you think alot more than most books can

I'm mainly into fantasy so a few of the ones I'll recomend are:

The Silmarilion by Tolken, I have read all of his works including the unfinished and this is by far my fav. a simple way to explain is calling it the entire history of middle earth in shorter stories and narative, but its truely amazing and was his real life time work.

The riftwar saga (Magician, Silverthorn and darkness at Sethanon) by Raymond E Feist, I havent read alot of his other work but this was was truely good.

The dark magician series by Trudy Canavan I think there is a new one coming out but its a very good trillogy atm

for those who read slowly and like long series;

Terry Pratchects Diskworld series, I cant say enough, I just love it, it has humour on so many different lvls and is always readable more than once

Robert Jordan's wheel of time, about 11 books and not finished atm... but the first 7 maybe 8 are extreamly good and carry you through it amazingly

Terry Goodkind's Sword of truth series, first book is wizards first rule, very interesting series, I thought it loast its way a little but always recovered and got good again.

and more the more classical minded;

read war and peace, you may find it hard to start but once I got into it I read it in a couple of days and am extremly glad I did, although I think I was 12 at the time so need to re-read it now.

there are alot more but those are the ones that come to mind at this monent XD

Thanks for the great recomendations, just to clear things up, you got the authors switched on these titles...Robert Jordan did WOT and Terry Goodkid did SOT. :kawaii: Robert Jordan died back in 2007 so I don't know what's going to happen to WOT, I think his son's taking over or something. After all of those books someone better give it an ending! lol

It really depends on what book. I'm not that fussy on any particular books, but if it's too adult-ish or child-ish i tend not to read it. I'm reading a book called "The Hunt for Atlantis by Andy McDermott"

No problem, I figured that's what happened. ^^

No problem, my dad and I were just talking about it the other, that's how I even knew. He said they've comissioned someone, so we shall see.
