So many Black Album fans...I find that strange. I personally thought it was pretty terrible compared to Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets.
As for Death Magnetic, I have yet to buy it or hear anything off of it yet.
Oh, and my favorite Metallica album is a tie between Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets.
I think everyone of us only know matallica from the black album haha ... a very good album ... matellica was said to be the best band ever .. u think this is true ?

an opinion can never be true.... it depends on each person's likes and dislikes. me for example; i dislike most mainstream bands(metallica being one of many) i think the independants are waaaay more talented. but then again, they suit my tastes more than most mainstream anything does. (except for movies) i'm about even with movies.

Who cares if they're sell-outs? Man, first rule of music: judge the music, not the band members' pockets.
Too many times have I seen people bashing bands just because they pull a little commercial deal or something here and there to grab some cash. What really matters is the music they make.

it does matter whe they change their sound to fit the masses like so many bands do when they get a little popularity :( that is where i draw the line and the music becomes garbage (usually) because it's no longer geared towards stuff i like.

Can you really blame a band for wanting to remain popular? And don't you think it's a little selfish to expect a band to only produce material that you like? Bands branch out to get new listeners or just fulfill a change they personally wanted to make, not just to get more money.
It's fine if you don't like it, but I think bashing a band for being a "sell-out" is going a bit too far.

what about forsaking the fans who GOT THEM TO WHERE THEY ARE? i don't appreciate a band forgetting where they came from just because they got a little popularity and money.... Amon Amarth (for example) never changed (yet) *knocks on wood* they remained to have lyrics about norse mythlogy, vikings and epic battles, the vocals got better (Hegg is just getting better at growling, imo)and the music is still as good as it's ever been if not better. IMO anyway.
change is ok, as long as it isn't too much of a change. bands should not forget who got them where they are at in the first place.... and metallica's money grubbing asses did. they blamed P2P programs for their lack of sales, but it tends to happen when the band goes down in quality over the years. not P2P's fault the band got worse. i don't appreciate being called a thief (i'm looking at YOU lars) especialy when i buy the CDs i really like... metallica's just never been on the "to buy" list, just for not being my thing.. thoughv the new album is a 3* effort, but it doens't make me wanna buy it. i've got amon amarth's album comming out tomorrow to save up for. metallica isn't even on the list for me. and it's about 20% of them selling out and 80% of them just not being my thing.. though the new album IS an improvement over st. anger and the last couple of albums, it's still not good enough (for me) to buy.

Most big acts that "sell out" and "forsake the fans who got them where they are" come back to their older styles eventually. Sort of like what Metallica is doing now. It's not really a big deal...certainly nothing to fume over.

your just one of those people that like to fight the masses. and you like being a misfit by liking bands that noone likes and when they do like them for maybe i dont know selling a good album you ditch them. which is just telling me that your not a loyal fan of anything.

Uh, who are you talking to? Me? It'd help if you used the quote system, no offense.
But if you were talking to me, I really have no idea where you got that accusation, because all I do is state my opinion and keep loving the music I love, no matter what anyone says about it.

i assue this is directed to me; so:
way to judge wrongly... i'm still with amon amarth, and they're pretty popular (they had a video on MTV) i don't care about popularity, or if everyone and a few monkies listen to a band..... if i like it then i like it, i just don't like songs about drinking, partying, and stuff that the masses generally like... so i don't typically listen to bands with a great volume of those types of songs...\
and just because you haven't heard of them doens't mean they're not popular..... most of the bands i listen to are pretty big outside of the US (mostly in europe) Iced Earth, God Dethroned, Nalfar (swe),Bewitched (swe), Hammerfall, Dream Evil, etc. are all big bands, just not as big in the US as far as i know... it matters not to me how big a band is.. infact i try to get them MORE fans by metioning them and showing youtube links whenever i can.
so don't judge what you don't know.

well, i'm not a fan of selling out, i'm sorry, but you can get more fans other than by selling out.

no not you you make good points. i was talking to dragon. either way dude i dont wanna hear it. this argument will go on forever and i think its ridiculous. dude they dont sing songs for the masses but whatever. metallica pantera slayer are bands that you can say sell out but does that mean that they suck? or does it mean that they accelerated in their genre. the point is that youre gonna defend your hardheadedness til your dieing breath and its pointless to bother. metallica aren't sell outs. they just try different approaches. its all artistic remember. they dont belong to anybody so they can do as they please and with over 100 million records sold and the biggest artist out right now by being number one in multiple countries. so ya your right man.

being good doesn't mean selling the most records, people are generally stupid.. i mean the guy from ac/dc knew only like 3 chords.. yet they are popular.... all i'm saying is bands like metallica, pantera, slayer, etc. aren my thing, so to me they are not no where near good. and they never were, i wasn't a fan ebfore and i'm not now. imo they are all very over rated. they have a couple good songs here and there, but not even worth me wasting money on a CD (just not my cup o' tea)
and since when is not liking bands being hard headed? i have my own taste, that is NOT hard headed. like i said you're judging what you don't know (by that i mean why i don't like said bands) vocals and music just aren't my style, IMO they give metal a bad name, because most people think ALL metal is like the stuff they play on the radio, when in fact that is just the tip of the iceberg. i am just sick of people judging things based on what's mainstream. you are the one being hard headed if you think everyone must like metallica "becuase they are the best" they are not the best. best is opinion. and that is not goverened by how many records you sell.. like i said ac/dc sold how many records? one of their guitarists only knew like 3 cords... so you're telling me people payed money for almost the same song on every album he was apart of? it goes to show how stupid people (in general) are..NOT how good the band is. anyone can explot morons and the desprit to fit in... look at religion::D:

Uh, people like AC/DC because they like straightforward hard rock, and Angus Young knows a lot more than 3 chords...you must not listen to a lot of their material. He's a great guitarist, but he chooses to keep it simple because that's how they wanted their music to be- simple rock n' roll.
That being said, it has nothing to do with exploiting stupid people. You don't have to be stupid to appreciate simplicity. Maybe you're just too close-minded to appreciate such things. I won't lie...I don't like AC/DC a whole lot either, but I can at least open my eyes and see the music for what it is instead of assuming you have to be stupid to like it.
I don't think Metallica has ever tried to exploit "stupid people" either. Their sound has changed a bit over time, often going back and forth, but it doesn't mean they're trying to exploit anyone. There's nothing wrong with experimenting with different styles. Do you think Pink Floyd would have been as successful and awesome as they are if they kept going the way they were when they had Syd Barrett in the band? Hell no. Thank god for experimentation.

hm, never said they were aweful.. i like a few songs here and there, but they are just not my thing... i know of plenty of talented bands who don't sell millions of albums, because most people won't give them a chance (IMO) every time i try to introduce certian people around here to a band they say "who? i'll bet no ones ever heard of them" as if how many people hear your music means you're good it's almost like people have a pack mentality, and will listen to anything MTV says is cool... everyone starts out unknown at some point, some bands/artists longer than others, it really depends on timing/luck... it isn't all talent (though talent helps a lot) you have to get the attention of the right people too. and don't even get me started on the flavor of the month bands:pissed: it all comes down to taste.. i don't like metallica enough to buy their cds.. and not becuase they DID sell out, but becuase they just aren't my style of music.. i prefer harsh vocals (growling) over clean (normally sung) vocals....
so don't assume it's just becuase they are popular... i stuck with amon amarth and haven't regretted it yet *knocks on wood* because they didn't change what makes them awesome to me
same with God Dethroned, they changed a little bit, but i like what they did, not as much as their old stuf, but it's not bad... i don't just go "you changed, you sold out" it all depends on how much they changed.. if amon amarth went to a more pop sound (godforbid) then, yes, i'd say they sold out. i doubt it'd happen though. (i hope not anyway)
so don't say i'm hard headed, stubbern, etc. for not liking metallica, just becuase they aren't my thing. i have a different taste. since when did that become a crime?

haha are you implying that i listen to it because mtv says so? mtv is telling me to listen to shitty rap and horrible emo bands. i could ask anyone at my school who pantera is and like 7 of them would know. i dont listen to whats popular because its popular. i listen to metallica for their music. not their commercial success. i like your bands as well. im not too familiar with some but amon amarth is sick. i have a free ticket to go but i cant go. ever listen to lamb of god? they are redefining metal as we speak. and theyre becoming popular but that doesnt mean that they sold out. besides just because bands try something new doesnt mean they sold out. take a look at ozzy. he didnt want to sing about evil stuff when he formed his band after black sabbath but he felt pressured to. bands that try new things because they feel like it should be revered not cast away

no, i'm simply saying that it is the feeling i get from a lot of people IN GENERAL.... especially around here.. not af, but where i live. other than that, good point. i never knew ozzy didn't wanna sing about evil stuff?
and if you like good music, try Naglfar's albums Sheol (their original singer's last album with them) and Pariah & Harvest (their new singers first 2 albums)
you may not understand what he's saying without reading the lyrics while listening to it though, so as always i recommend using www.metal-archives.com for their lyrics (and any metal info, lyrics, links, etc. needed) type in "Naglfar (swe)" the swe is just a tag that it's the sweddish band you're looking for.
also Bewitched (swe) is also good, so is Ancient Wisdom bewitched is like thrash or something, and the other 2 are black metal. if you're christian or offended by satanic lyrics i don't suggest looking up said bands, they're mostly satanic and/or misanthropic. (i love Naglfar's albums Pariah & Harvest for their misanthropic lyrics) don't bother with naglfar's firts 2 albums (Vittra & Diobolical) the vocals are HORRID, but the music is top notch, i just can't take the vocals for long. hoever sheol, pariah & harvest i love everything about those albums
and did you see Amon Amarth's new video for their new album (Twilight Of The Thunder god) same title for the song aswel.
Rotting Christ is also a good band, imo (more black metal, though)
as for death metal, i recommend Mors Principium Est, Suidakra & Quo Vadis

and i've listened ot both those bands, but it's been a while... don't really rememebr much abut them. and i'm with ya on the emo stuff, emo has nothing on doom metal (especialy funeral doom) you wanna talk about depressing, damn.
a good doom metal band (well 2 that combine death and doom) Draconian (swe) & Novembers Doom (2 really good bands)
