Ok so I was wondering what exactly the reputation button/feature's purpose is? I know it gives you the option of approving or disapproving of a persons post and leaving a comment. But does it change anything if you get so many reputation points either bad or good? And are you actually able to read the comments if someone leaves one? Just curious.
Thanks - Persha

to be perfectly honest, I'm still confused about that one, so I'm eagerly awaiting a detailed answer as well, not that I think it will matter much, I think it would be rare that anyone member of the forums would feel the need to approve or disapprove of someone so strongly or so often as to make it an issue what the ranking even is

When a post that you have made is approved by any member of the forum, your reputation point goes up by 1. Every 10 positive points that you receive, 1 more green square is added beneath your name.

It's the same with negative reputation points except that every 10 reputation points that you lose for disapproved posts, you receive one more red square.

The catch is that there are a limited number of times within a set time period that any particular user can approve/dissapprove of any user's posts to prevent abuse of the reputation point system.

And to answer your question, yes, you will be able to view any comments or positive/negative rep points that you receive. Usually you would see an alert in the top right corner of the forum's navigation bar.

yes but that being said, I assume enough disapproval will get you kicked off the site or at least the forums, what does massive approval net you?

Lots of web friends? Actually, someone can have the maximum amount of disapproval allowed but as long as they aren't breaking any of the rules they're free to stay and post.

Whats the deal with the "is on a distinguished road" thing?

Why is there an art judge? What does he do?

That is the description of your current level of forum reputation.

Now, I realize that you'll have some more questions about the forum reputation system so here goes:

What is the reputation system?
Much like "karma points" and "mod points" used in other online communities, Reputation is one way to gauge at a glance how much credibility to give the author of a post. The Reputation system is an informal way for members of the forum to reward (or penalize) fellow members for informative, helpful, articulate, or even simply entertaining (or not) posts. A user with a high Reputation is someone you're more likely to learn something from. A user with a low Reputation is someone you might simply want to ignore. User reputations are shown on each post as green (or red) squares in the upper right corner. The more squares, the higher the reputation. The same squares can be found in each user's Public Profile. The squares are only general guides, however — only the user knows his or her actual Reputation point level.

How do I give reputation points?
Every post has a "scale" Reputation icon in the postbit: http://www.cocteautwinsforums.com/images/buttons/reputation.gif
If a member has posted something you found particularly insightful, you can click the Reputation icon and indicate that you approve of the post. (If the post was unhelpful, you can click the Reputation icon and indicate that you disapprove.) You can also include a comment if you like.

Are there limits on the amount of rep I can give?
There are quite a few limits in place to prevent minor abuse of the reputation system. Obviously there cannot be a flawless system, but these limits try to curb any intentional abuse. You must have a minimum of 1 post and 10 reputation points in order for your reputation to count on other people. Until you meet those requirements, your reputation will show up as grey dots. Everybody is limited to giving out 20 reputations per 24-hour time period; you cannot give the same person reputation until you have given reputation to 3 other people. This prevents friends from giving 20 reputations to the same person every day.

How do I see reputation given to me?
If you go into your User CP (linked at the top of every page) you can see a list of the past 15 reputation points you have received. A red dot beside the comment means you've received negative rep feedback and a green dot means you've received positive rep feedback.

How do I find out my current rep score?
In your User CP, in the upper right, you can see what your current reputation score is. Also, to find the reputation points given for a particular post just click the reputation icon on your post, a window will pop up with your current score for that individual post.

What do the coloured bars represent?
http://www.cocteautwinsforums.com/images/reputation/reputation_pos.gifhttp://www.cocteautwinsforums.com/images/reputation/reputation_highpos.gif
You get awarded 1 reputation bar for every 100 reputation points received. The rep bars are displayed in each of your forum posts, underneath your avatar and username.

50 => 1 bar
99 => 1 bar
125 => 2 bar
199 => 2 bar
359 => 4 bar

What other factors influence my reputation count?
When a new user first starts out, their reputation does not count. There are a few factors that determine when their reputation should start counting. Some of those factors are the number of posts, the number of days they have been registered, and the number of reputation points that have been given to them.

As for Art Judges: an art Art Judge is a user that maintains the Graphic Design and Art Hall as a whole. They also hold occasional competitions.

Sweet!

I have an idea for a contest.

Make a contest where users can submit pics for the Icon at the top of the page. Then have a poll where all members vote and have the winners pic put up top as the new site icon for.... say one month? Then hold a new contest every month.

That's not a bad idea, I'll mention it to the rest of the staff for discussion purposes.

Ummm Okay I am not sure if this is the right place to ask this (I cant describe it that well too..)but I have noticed on peoples profiles when they post there is alittle green cricle thing and when you scroll over it, it says "So and So is on a distinguished rode.." Can someone please tell me what does that mean..I have never been able to understand it...Sorry if this is in the wrong place...

Looks like a square to me actually....

But that is reputation. Click on it for a person and you can choose to add or remove reputation points from them. Click on it for your own post and you can see when someone has added or removed to the post, but you can't see who actually gave or removed those points.

Edit: Actually, you should click the button under that green box that says "REP" and that will do ect. ect.

Yeah. But reputation doesn't actually hold much merit, I think it's just there for fun.

Yeah. But reputation doesn't actually hold much merit, I think it's just there for fun.For fun?? haha, some kids are using those rep. points to vent their anger and uncontrolled immature impulses at others!!
I noticed that some tend to wreak their groundless rage at other innocent members :/
I condemn such a behavior and intentions.
