For $140, you get, this replica Lancer from Gears of War 2, plus the game. An additional $10 gets you the special edition of the game.
Have the promotional items gotten just a little bit out of hand? A scale model gun is cool and all, but this is somthing that anyone can get, not just the hardcore gamer that wins a contest, spending months forging fake entry forms.
Are we going to see an age open up where Killzone 2 gives you a replica mask of the oppresive army? Where Spore gets you your own sea monkey to grow? WHat about Legend of Zelda giving way to a full replica sword? (I would really want the sword though...)
Lastly, what kind of items, if this kind of promotion for a game to continue, would you want before you shell out a bonus hundred for a game?

If they gave me a game weapon that actually functioned. That would be worth it. A REAL chainsaw machine gun.

Unless the weapons and armor offered as a promo are real and functional, I'm not shelling out any more money. I don't need useless swag crowding my bedroom.

I'd have to get one of the following before I shell out the money for it.
Legend of Zelda, Master Sword replica and replica Mirror Sheild or Hyrulian Sheild.
Super Mario Brothers, a large storage block with a glowing question mark, hit it to get your stuff.
Earthbound (Or Mother for you purists), The ability to shoot lightning out of my head (Even though Ness wasn't the original user)
Star Fox, a scale model Arwing, Landmaster or a working blaster.
Spore, my own pet of scaley destruction.

It's surprising how much some people love cheap plastic.

I'm serious. What if you got a full sized replica Triforce, cast in bronze and sealed in glass? Or the two infamous Devil May Cry pistols, fully fuctional? Perhaps a Killzone faceplate of the soldiers you kill?

I'd rather have the game than the merchandise any day.

I'd have to agree with Klard.
I've never seen any game merchandise that is fully functional, so I think you're out of luck in that department.
