That's right, a Sony Exec of Europe, claims that by 2011, Nintendo and Sony will be tied in hardware sales in 3 years. How so? Personally, this is a load of bull, as he suggests that
A. The install base of the PS3 will reach 70 million.
B. The ps2 will either sell another 90 million, or he's expecting a chunk of the currently 130 million ps2 owners to move to ps3, leaving a userbase of 90 million (I couldn't tell which) and
C. The PSP will sell an additional 25 million from it's current 45 million owners.
He also states the Wii will sell 80 million, the DS 150 million, leaving both Sony and Nintendo with 230 million units of hardware for his predicted 500 million hardware base.... And what's 230 times 2? 460. That means he only expects a hardware amount of 40 million from Microsoft, someone he doesn't at all consider a super power.
Do any of you believe this is possible?

Heck no?
Nintendo has always been independent.Actually it's becuz it is independent that it developed the Zelda Franchise and the Mario Franchise. Nintendo is famous for these 2 titles including Metroid prime. That's why Nintendo has been so famous and popular. It's because it has something to be proud of and to move from.
personally i think that the Playstation works well without Nintendo. Playstation is Unique because it's the Ultimate gaming system but Nintendo pwns when it comes to social gaming and imaginative gaming, and now Nintendo moving forward with physical gaming with the Nintendo Wii and the WiiFit game which i believe is going to be a franchise too.

F*** no!
The price tag of the PS3 makes it inaccessible to everyone who doesn't have a steady job, plus only the truly hardcore will want to shell out $600 for a gaming system.
And the Wii appeals to a broader spectrum of people with its whimsical approach to gaming; not everyone is into FPS and fighting games. I find that the PS3 sorely lacks any original RPG games and that Sony is losing a huge chunk of cash because of this.
In short, that's Sony's usual fatal optimism kicking into gear. They won't admit that they're losing money.

Why bother posting uniformed post?
As for the OP question, the little fan-boy in me wishes it were true, but I know better than that at best the PS3 will tie 360 sales.

I seriously doubt it.
I mean, he has no way of telling if that will actually happen. Nintendo has a pretty big lead as it is at the moment, and it will only get larger in the next 3 years, which means PS3 sales will have to somehow increase by like over roughly 300% or so.

Agreed. Unless Sony makes record profits they won't have a snowball's chance in hell of catching Nintendo.

I suppose I could see something like that happening. I think the one advantage nintendo has is that wii and DS are quite possibly the most recent revolutionary move that gaming's seen in a long while. while ps3 is putting out classic tried and true material, it really can't do much in the way of attracting new interest.
I recently went through the debate of buying a wii or ps3 as a matter of fact. and I went with the wii. ps3 will come later when there's a couple more games that I seriously want to annihilate come out.
point being xbox is going to be left to the dust.

Well, the company that made PS3 lost money. The price was reduced greatly so the people could buy the system. It was on the Top 5 or Top 10 money loss Game related sales. You have to be at least that thankful.

No i don't think this is possible because the price tag on the ps3 is $600 dollars and the way the economy is going, not very many people are able to buy the ps3 as sony thinks. In my opinion, the Wii will sell the most machines, because it is cheaper, fun to play, and provides exercise while enjoying a video game. It is the perfect household gaming system. so no I do not believe that load of bulls**t.

None of you were paying attention to E3, were you. Every model ps3 is now $400, not 600

Eh you mean $500, they didn't lower the price on all models, just made that lesser version of PS3 for 400.

Regardless of price, the PS3 has gotten too slow of a start to catch up as quickly as Sony says. It will take at least 2 years or more to catch up with Nintendo, and by then the next console cycle might have arrived.

ps3 is still pretty pricey, but when you take the time to actually consider the machine, it's a damn good deal. you couldn't get a computer decked out like that for $600, so why complain.

Actually, yes you can. There are computers better than the ps3 for $500.
