Okay, we all know by know that videogame tie-ins with movies are usually a safe bet to consider the game will suck. The only exceptions, is Tron, ScarFace, and..... actually, can't think of any more.

But anyway, what about anime based videogames? Most of them suck. TONS of them suck. But of course, not alll of them suck. There are good games, like the Legacy of Goku games on the GBA and maybe even a Budikai game. But is it worth it to make anime based games/ Which games do you like that are based on anime?

Also, for the sake of argument, the anime has to have come before the game, so we're counting out Tales of Symphonia.

Well the fact is most video games licensed from a property in another medium of entertainment will suck. Movie games, Games based on lines of toys, games based on books, games based on movies that are based on books, and even games based on anime.

I liked the Legacy of Goku games, and the first Budokai. Then they came out with about 30 more DBZ Fighting games. It boggles the mind of how many times you can make the exact same game and people will buy it over and over. If you notice, they mostly only make video games out of anime that are "popular", i.e showing on Cartoon Network. These games are of course... marketed at children, which means they automatically suck.

In Japan, they make games for just about every single anime. Hell, a lot of animes are even based on games, like visual novels. But like any other form of media, some of it sucks, some of it is good.

Yup, the game came first.... so, we'll cut that out of the discussion as well.

Like Koopa said, you find all sorts of games based on anime, for example there is a mech pilot kind of game for Eureka Seven, apparently continueing the series after it's ending. Even though it's not in the states, would you still import a game like this to play it?

there's a ghost in the shell game that's not too bad. had a cool little story to it and everything. and zone of the enders was decent cool, but I don't know if the game came out first or the anime. I think the game.
otherwise, anime games do tend to suck. the DBZ games are the same thing over and over again, so the series of games as a whole are pretty pointless.

I saw on X-Play once that they were playing a Shonin Jump game on the Ds. And it was just that, Shonin Jump. It had a bunch of characters fighting Super Smash Brothers Style, with Naruto, Bobobo and Don Patch of Bobo-bo-bobobo, Ichigo of Bleach, Sasuke and Kakashi of Naruto, Goku and Gohon of Dragonball Z, Luffy and Sangi of One Piece, Yusuke and Hiei of Yuyu Hakusho, and there's tons more I don't recognize.

Edit: Dragonball Z Characters: Gotenks, Goku, Vegeta, Piccillo, Gohon, Frieza, Buu
One Piece: Luffy, Sangi, Zoro, Nami, Robin, Franky
YuYu Hakusho: Sasuke, Hiei, Kurama
There are also support characters, like from Death Note and other manga.

Besides this, every character also has multiple forms, like Budikai, you can have Goku, Super Sayian, Super 2, so on so on.

I'd also like to remind you, there's FAR more playable characters than these.

well come on there were some amazing anime games. LOL this is hard to think of any good ones except DBZ and that series of games is competing with real non anime games because of the fighting and how many characters. Dot Hack OMG multiplayer comming in the future that will be pure badass
