OK this topic might take alittle researching. I want to know what the oldest anime you have watched. And the oldies like Astro Boy, Gigantor, and Speed racer don't count. When you name the anime please give us the first time it was aired and a little info that people would find interesting.

Mine would have to be yu yu hakusho it was first aired in 1992. I never noticed how old that anime is. And a fact that i didn't know the creator started writing the story in november 1990 (my birth month and year). The series has sold over 44,000,000 copies just in japan and was named the 15th best anime of all time. 20th Century Fox has announced, that the rights have been bought to a live action adaption to Yu Yu Hakusho as of early July 2008. Film is planned for a July 2010 release, and actors Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Megan Fox have been attached to play lead roles of Yusuke Urameshi and Botan. I think I went a little over board on the info.

SAilor Moon

The Sailor Moon anime was co-produced by TV Asahi, Toei Agency and Toei Animation, and started airing only a month after the first issue of the manga was published. With 200 episodes airing from March 1992 to February 1997 on TV Asahi, Sailor Moon is one of the longest magical girl anime series. The anime sparked a highly successful merchandising campaign of over 5000 items, which contributed to demand all over the world and translation into numerous languages. Sailor Moon has since become one of the most famous anime properties in the world.

I think mine was either Detective Conan or Yu-yu-hakusho. They were both back in the day and extremely good, so i don't have any complaints.

The oldest anime I watched is Combatler V (1976-1977) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Combattler_V
EDIT: I watched it around 2002, I think. Just like watching animes after I came from school. Aired around 4:30-ish in the afternoon. I thought it was like around late 1980s, but I guess its a little older than that. I never know anymore infos on this one. The background summary I could give is that its about combining machines, forming robot, fighting to save Earth from aliens. Other infos are in the Url I put on.

Next in line are Voltes V (1977-78), Daimos (1978-79) and Gundam (1979-80)

If Astro Boy and and Speed Racer don't count... Urusei Yatsura (1981) is the oldest I've seen to completion.

I've partially watched Mazinger Z, Getter Robo, and some other Super Robot series of the early 70s, but I haven't seen more than a few episodes from any of them. This is rather off-subject, but does anyone know where you can obtain box set DVDs/downloads for one of those (including Combattler V and Daimos)?

Woah, I just realized Lupin III first debuted in 1971. I could've sworn it was more recent... Yeah, that's definitely the oldest one for me.
