Playstation 2, home to one of the biggest library of games in existance, and going on in its 9th year, it continues to go on as a continual seller of systems and software. Even with it's younger (though much larger brother) the Playstation 3, it went on to sell a record 120 million consoles.
What do we see in the future for the Playstation 2? ANOTHER 80 GAMES FROM HERE TO CHRISTMAS!!! But after that? Can the Playstation 2 continue to sell strong as it approuches year ten of its console life? Or will it eventually die off, leaving its adopters no choice but to turn to the PS3?

I think Sony will milk it for all it's worth. After all, from what I hear not that many people are buying Playstation 3's. I do think that Sony will eventually kill the system, but I don't think it will do that just yet.
Plus I still have a PS2 and as long as they keep making games for it I'm keeping it.

God. I hope the PS2 dies and burns. They really need to stop making games for that outdated console.

Simply because it's outdated.

I will admit that I swear at my PS2. I usually say things like "Why can't you transform into a PS3 you lousy piece of s***!"
P.S. There are no good games still being released for the PS2, I stopped buying games for it a while ago. I play it for the sake of nostalgia.

You guys got to it really fast.
Personally, I think the Playstation will keep going for at least till the end of the year. After that, Sony will pull every one of their playstation two's off store shelves, leaving just the ps3. After that, the playstation games will get pulled soon after, as only one model of ps3 is still backwards compatable.

I think they'll keep it going on as long as people continue to buy it. Hell, they still make Dreamcast games in Japan. What I think would be really funny is if a company suddenly made and released a brand new game, but on an old console. I'm talking like the N64 or PSone.

i have a ps2, and i really enjoy playing it. then again, a ps3 will be better, and i think that if the price of a ps3 lowers, teh ps2 is a gonner.

The Ps2 sells for like 85$ U.S, while the cheapest Ps3 available is 400$

I like my PS2... Whenever my mom's husband is home I can't play our PS3 so the PS2 keeps me occupied. I'm still buying games for it and my mom got it when I was about 6 or 7.

they will probably stop creating games within a year. I need to know, is the new PS3 compatible with ps2 games, cause I heard it's not?

if they make a ps4 it will probably just be a dumbed down version of the ps3
and the ps2 will sell till people stop buying it and then when they stop making a profit off of it then they will remove it from the shelves

Only the original PS3s, the 60 GIGs. I have one and the only thing that's bad about the PS2 Emulator for it is that every time you start a PS2 game the controller turns off so you have to turn it back on. You get used to it though.

The Playstation 3, the only non-profit system that sold while still losing money in every aspect.
