View Full Version : Revolver or Semi-automatic?

I am not entirely sure as to whether this will get me any results worth merit, because it seems to me that people here do not share my tastes, but I am curious to know the preference of handgun of the members of this forum. Do you personally prefer a revolver or a semi-automatic handgun? Why do you hold said preference? Also, is there a specific make or model that you like? I can see the merits and faults with both types of weapon, but I would like a fresh view on the subject.
I would also like to state that I do not want people to turn this into a debate on whether guns are moral or evil or blah-blah-blah. I also do not want rifles of any sort, shotguns, or sub/machine pistols brought into the conversation. Save it for another topic, everyone.

I would prefer a nice SAA with some nice engravings over a semi-automatic handgun. But that is something I would like to own, but for protection I would choose a Beretta M9 over a revolver.

depends on the situation, a good Semi is good for getting many accurate rounds down range in a shorter amount of time, not to mention faster reload.
but still depends, there are some Semi autos that suck, like the m9.

Why, thank you. That, of course, is what I was going for.
Dip.
In case you can't tell, or else just can't read, I am only interested in HANDGUNS at this moment. Quote, "Save it for another topic, everyone." I will post more topics as I find time on the merits of the many other types of firearms. Until then, bugger out.

Whoa, friend I'm offended. As for my opinion semi-automatic, simply because it's easier to load.

Perhaps it is good that you are experiencing a taste of your own medicine. If you don't like the fact that others aren't as fond of you as I am, well, whose fault is that but your own?
Oh, and everyone is entitled to their own opinion, no matter how wrong or misled it might be.
If you can't handle that, then do one of the following:
1) GET OUT
or
2) REFER YOURSELF TO THE ALBUM I MADE IN YOUR HONOR
You choose.

You? Offended? Nah... its to early for hell to freeze over.
To be honest, I like the Semi because of how many bullets you can spit out in such a short amount of time.

Though a personally own a .38, i prefer semi's for their higher round capacity, higher accuracy, and easier/faster reload. Having said that i still <3 my .38.

I would go with a revolver because they have better aim and less of a chance to jam and most of the time more powerful. Smith & Wesson Model 500 .50-Cal revolver can blow any thing away with its power. And Clint Eastwood looked pretty bad*** holding one.

Yes, you are right there, I do mean serious business. However, the true reason I used caps lock is to try and make more clear to you my intentions, seeing as regular old lower case wasn't working.

what idiot uses a revolver when he can use a semi-automatic pistol in a gun fight? that would be the same as bring a knife. semi-automatics are easier to reload and have a slightly better rate of fire than revolvers. they also are less lightly to jam, you don't have to worry about shooting yourself because the majority of semi-pistols have a safety switch.

Christ, can't you read? I just said that I did that on purpose. Maybe I should use Caps-Lock more often, as it seemed to get your attention. At least then we'll be able to have a conversation without you forgetting what I said just minutes before.

Okay, Monsoon, you're clearly missing some of the operative words here: 'stating a fact'. If I were name calling, I'd be more rude and oppressive. I could give some examples, but, alas, I don't feel the need to. So how about we share some apples and milk, or whatever fruit and beverage you enjoy.

But if i was about to go in a gunfight, it wouldn't be the first thing i grab.

especially a magnum

Both guns have their advantages and disadvantages.
A revolver has a smaller ammo capacity and tends to take longer to reload. They have less moving parts though so jamming, catastrophic failure, and 'kB' are less likely to happen.
Automatics are faster to reload, can hold more ammo and have a better rate of fire. Unfortunately as indicated by Murphy's law when the shit hits the fan it will probably fail.
If the handgun I had were a magnum I would probably prefer a revolver since automatic magnums need highly durable moving parts which still might fail. For a regular handgun I would go with an automatic for the reload/capacity factor.
Handguns have a tendency to be used as a sidearm in many situations, and I for one would like to have a rifle of some sort to go with my handgun.

a revolver, even thou it slow it stronger than a semi-auto
especially a magnumA revolver and an automatic have about the same punch. The reloading mechanisms of an automatic handgun use the recoil of the discharge to reload. In other words it uses the backwards energy rather than the forward energy so the bullet isn't slowed down any.
Also there is more to a weapon than the foot pounds of energy it makes on impact. I'd love to see someone knock down a person wearing a kevlar vest at 75 yards using a .38 police revolver. Even without the ceramic inserts the vest would stop the bullet, but the bullet of an FN Five-seveN would probably go right through.

i vote semi-auto, even though fully auto would be better. spray and pray is fun:dance:
but seriously... you can hold more rounds in the guin and injure more enemies... if you're good that is. who wants to relaod all the time? not me.
semi - automatic for me not as powerful as the revolver, but still better for me :)
