View Full Version : How Would You Survive In This World?

I was sort of daydreaming, when this thought popped up in my head.
Let's say, that (totally a hypothetical, fictional situation here, of course) in 30 years, the earth has been completely depleted of it's resources. We have run out of oil, fresh water is dwindling, and through war, and climate change, many countries are bankrupt, and starving, the poverty line being raised to include a large majority of people living on this planet. The truly wealthy have isolated themselves from the starving masses, in a Utopian society.
You follow me so far? Okay, so people are dying and getting sick everywhere, and many apocalyptic predictions are on the rise, as well as the crime rate increasing. It is extremely dangerous and scary to live on Earth at this point and time, and it appears that everyone has gone mad, governments have collapsed, and survival of the fittest has become the new law of the land.
In the midst of this chaos, a new race of people have landed on earth, from a distant galaxy. They've been observing us since the dawn of time, and are willing to offer to help, but only if we are more or less owned by their people. This would strip you of all of your freedom and rights, but in this new world, freedom and rights are slim, as there is nothing but vigilantes for law enforcement, and you cannot really trust anyone.
There are similar offers in the Utopian society, doing jobs that are degrading, disgusting, disturbing, or inhumane, but on this dying planet, you aren't sure that you want to stick around. To leave Earth would mean the possibility of living on a new planet, with plentiful resources, and though you'd be a slave, you would be free from disease and adverse affects from Earth.
So, what do you choose to do? Please provide a detailed description, and if you so wish, maybe even some sort of a storyline as to how you got where you are, and what you plan to do. Do not roleplay with others, this is a stand alone narrative.
1. Choose to live on Earth and see what happens to the planet, continuing to live in poverty, but maintaining your freedom and choices to live and act how you choose.
2. Choose to go with the aliens to their new planet, knowing nothing other than that they have plenty of resources that they are willing to share, but in return you sell your freedom to them, by becoming enslaved.
3. Beg for entrance into the Utopian society, living on a dying Earth, by doing the most disturbing jobs, but have access to clean water and resources, with only some freedom to do what you choose.

I think I've said this here before somewhere, but what we need is an FTL Drive(Faster then light). And every time this is mentioned a lot of people just shrug it off as some sci-fi bullcrap from Star Trek or Star Wars, cause they can't seem to imagine it. Look folks FTL is very possible we just need to find a way to make it happen. Just because Einsteins Theory of Relativity limits us to what we can do doesn't mean there isn't a way for it to work. And once we get a FTL drive we can go across the stars to other planets ourselves and start rebuilding the Earth.
And I choose none of them. I can't wait to die. This world is so boring.... hopefully in the next life I can be some space ant or something....

I would choose option 1.
Having my own freedom seems to be most important. Of course, rather than living in poverty, I would just suicide. I'd rather not live on a place where society is corrupted, even for a fantasy. Is there anything else I would need to explain? ._.

my only bit about this FTL is that say we manage to move at the speed of light. we develop the technology to convert mass into energy and back again and can now coast through the cosmos faster than ever. Not only would it be challenge enough to get ourselves to the point of light speed, but we'd have to exceed it significantly. With the nearest habitable planets being often hundreds of light years away, I'm not too sure I'd want to be waiting for the next shuttle to get back after the first ferry through the cosmos dragged a full payload of people across the universe.
Anyhow, I'd much rather run off into the woods or the mountains and have fun running around naked and eating berries til I withered away to nothing.
otherwise, say hello to the next snake plissken

I awake from the cryogenic sleep that was enforced on me as the starship descends from relativistic speeds. It is a slow awakening, and for a while I am unable to gather any thoughts. Then without reason, I am confronted by a man in a blue suit. He informs me that he has pulled me out of 'stasis', the term referring (of course) to the unsettling hibernation that was forced upon all of its passengers. The man talks in cryptic metaphors about 'smelling the ashes' and 'sleeping on the job'. Before I can respond, I pass out.
Strangely, I recover consciousness to find myself in a train. There are other human passengers, sporting dreary and drab blue jumpsuits. Their scarce presence makes the train somehow seem even more forbidding. Not wishing to confront this sight, I look outside the window to look at hovering contraptions. As the train pulls to a stop, the hovering contraptions place themselves in front of the door. As each passenger disembarks, the robots begin to blink red and white lights at every one of us. As we step down, a face comes onto a huge screen in front of the train station. It's old, bearded visage stops for a moment before his voice pours from the speakers.

I choose option 1. I would creat a large gang of vigilantes and go across the land creating as much mayhem as I possibly could for the rich and poor alike. But the end result of my plan would be to create total anarchy for all.

I think I would choose option 2, depending on what the aliens looked like, if they were mean as a snake or not, and if I could be enslaved to a female alien or not. If the aliens look anything remotely like humans, and are somewhat nice, then I would choose to become enslaved as long as it was to a female alien.

I get it, the plot thickens when you noticed that you actually spend time with Brendan Fraser and in desperation you commit suicide.

I'd stay on earth
because in my world a few years after the aliens leave vampires would start showing up.
and so begins the possibility for me to turn this into an epic love story.

Right, because nothing says anarchy like forming a new social order to replace the previously existing one.

i would choose 1 if i was with someone i loved, then it wouldnt hurt so much to live in poverty because i would have what i love close to me, and nothing else matters really... plus Freedom is great

id choose to INFILTRATE the utopia; not beg to be a part of it. and once im in; make some friends here and there; connections; bada-bing bada-boom; then BAM!. im a top player in politics. with this i gain the trust of the people and eventually ASSASSINATE the leader of the utopia; however making it look like an accident so i "am forced to assume top position".now with this i make deals with this alien race; eventually learning the secret to their technology; make some friends and connections; bada-bing bada-boom; and BAM. top player in human/alien relations. proceed to either becoming partners with or ASSASSINATING the ALIEN leader; and BAM. human takeover of extra terrestrial civiliazation. plus we would have secretly developed weapons of their calibur on our planet in secret in case a war broke out. very hard; but very simple. TIME CONSUMING. and if i die in the process; well it was better than any other choice you suggested...

I was just going over the comments and that is from Shawn of the Dead. I should have known you would come up with it Russkie. Any way, I would choose 1 because I'm not one to accept change that greatly even if it might be for the better as in not completely sure.

i would gather supplies and design a warp core. i would then get help from the future to launch my ship after it is attacked by the future borg. upon jumping out of warp i will meet with a group of logic following people who will then take me in as one of their own while at the same time i will strip down all my emotions joining them in the intrest of and follow of logic. after which i shall come back to my people for it is logical to save my race then i shall take previous friends and others who wish to follow me in the intrest of the persuit of knowledge.

I am an idividual. I am a person. No man or alien will ever control or belittle me. My life is free, poor I may be but I shall survive. Besides nothing will ever be boring.

I'd be a vigilante. I'd find like minded people and form a 'justice league' and restore order and anime to the entire world. After that I'd introduce anime to the aliens and they would be so great full that they help us find and colonize new planets.
