View Full Version : How to deal with false reports.

Okay, I'm sure the staff has noticed that there are alot of false reports popping up, and I've noticed as well because I check most of the reports for any additional broken vids or accuracy of the reports. But, the staff would still need to take time to go through the threads and learn the content before knowing wether or not there is a problem or if there was falsehood in the report.

You can't exactly report the thread as that may create an unneccessary flood of of thread reports from moving to thread deletions and in general, bogus reports, depending on how many are created in a day. So, I think there needs to be a way for people to check out the videos in question and flag the threads that report them, in a way so that just by looking in the forum, staff and others could tell that the report is bad. And like many of the other links and items in the community, there would be a small little message when the mouse is hovered over the flagging icon, explaining why the report is being called as a fake. This would reduce the need to un-needed posting in the report threads to say that the report is bogus.

I am aware there is the possibility for mis-use of the system to do this, if available, and there of course would still require people to check the videos, but I was almost thinking that you could have people like the reviewers, where if they were to flag a video, that you could insure a level of responsibility where they would garentee and swear on their own status, that they flagged a video for good reason.

At the same time, there would be a list of people that would check out all videos that are reported, in particular reports for anime that don't feature episode numbers or reasons in the report, and they would also risk themselves to deletion of their account should they abuse the system.

Sounds like a good Idea Quietchat:
I have noticed too :O , And If staff need ppl to do such things I can gladly spend time on checking if its a "fake" :D I have in addition noticed that its diffrent when ppl use ophera, internet explorer or firefox, so ppl should also say what browser they use :O
just a thought :D

Edit: in addition I just stay away from most reported broken vids untill I see the green Fixed thing , so lets say my fav anime has a reported broken Ep I usually stall It until its fixed, but if it works then , argh :(

You know sometims just refreshing web browser, page or reboot comp fix the prob :O

Okay, lemme get this right. Are you talking about not only having another little report video system, but also another whole user group, just for making sure that videos are actually broken and not a false report? Or, are you saying that normal members such as yourself, should be able to go around and check the videos before the staff, and flag the false reports? Sorry, I'm just a little confused as to what you're talking about exactly.

Think of it kinda like this. When you make a thread, you can give it a little icon to adorn the side of the thread. You would have normal people, or people that don't handle replacing videos or have ability to work the more complicated actions that full staff can do (Reviewers or newly starting staff members) will have the ability to mark the thread with an icon, namely a flag, to say that the report is false.

This flag would appear to the right of the thread between the name and the most recent post. When you mark it with a flag, it forces you to write a small little report, saying why you state the report is bogus, for example, if I was to go and see the video. Someone says it doesn't work, and it's veoh. Well, it works for me, then I'd type in a report stating "Report for a Veoh Vid that works, user possibly has no access to veoh."

Or somthing to that effect.

Edit: To Rincewind

I usually do that for videos that don't play right away, and videos that don't load the player.

Oh okay, I understand now. That really does sound like a great idea and I would like to see that happen sometime in the future. :3

Of course this is up to the staff to decide, and like I stated there is the chance that it can be misused. Like I also stated, anyone who uses the system is subject to penalty if they are commonly incorrect or marking by spite. Not only that, but there's no real reward, other than the knowledge that you'd be speeding along the proccess of replacing videos. I suppose as a fail safe you would assign 5 people to check every report for accuracy, and at least 2 people need to mark the video before a flag comes up.

Then, you could make it so that instead of just a flag, you have a red and yellow flag by the thread. A yellow means one person has flagged it incorrect, and gives room for another person to check it to confirm, and turn the flag red. After that, any addition flagging of the thread as bogus would have a red flag, and number of people who reported. By clicking the flag you would see each of the different reports (As staff).

That's a good idea. The only problem is if Demon can do something like that or not. :/ We'll just wait and see.

@ Rincewind:

I have alot of free time with the work easing up in Calculus, but other than that it requires creative thinking.

Not really, a nerd is typically a demeaning term when used. I don't like to consider myself nerdy either, I wear glasses and go to college, but I enjoy alot of the same things that other people do.

Cant we just brutaly beat the stupid out of anyone who wrongly reports as punishment?

That would result in pending lawsuits, and besides that a ban works so much more simply.

...But you dont get the same satisfaction as you do when you creat massive amounts of brain damage on another human being.

I have to agree with Russkie's thinking

...Ummm ok...

I just delete the reports or mark them fixed.
