unless you're ashamed of liking anime, why are you questioning whether you should tell them or not? i never cared about my own "reputation," so if that's what you're trying to protect, i understand why i'm confused about why you need therapy. true friends care for you regardless of your entertainment purposes (unless you're entertained by hurting other people...), so there should be no harm in telling them.

A lot of my friends didn't know i watched anime till they came over my house and they really didn't care at all. And at that a lot of them started to watch anime with me because they saw the gore and action. But i think it is natural for a athlete or prep to like anime. I really don't know who would care though. If any one really dosen't know what to do just tell your friends and if they don't like it then screw them. They shouldn't be your friend if they don't like one thing about you.

My friends do not mind me liking anime and mangas. In fact, I think I was the one who influenced them to watch other animes too, aside from Naruto and Bleach. In terms of manga, they are a bit...how should I say this, they don't like it that much, but they are ok with it. In some cases, they like me to tell them about the recent mangas that I read.

Hey, I took a look at your pictures... Yeah, I could say you remind me of some manga characters ;) but in a good way. You have nothing to worry about ;)
Most of us belong to different social groups, teams, families ... you name it.
If they don't know about your hobby and passion, then why don't you introduce them to it? You never know, maybe you share the same interests with some of them, or you could get them interested in anime.

First of all, you need to stay away from the gang members. Those guys or girls can get you into a lot of trouble. Secondly be open about what you like. Who cares what other people think about you. As long as you feel good about what your interest are than nothing else should matter. I have three main friends that I still hang out with since high school. Two of them know that Im into anime and dont really care. The other makes fun of me about it and tells all of his friends that I watch anime. well first of all, if you do tell them that you like anime, they should accept you for who you are. many people have different insight on things. if they do accept you, they like other people say in this thread that they will just probably call it cartoon. but if they don't accept you and starts isolating you, then maybe they aren't your friends. i tell my friends what i like say christian music for example, and they will accept me for who i am. but don't just give up yet. there are millions, and billions of people out there that loves anime, and surly you will meet them. (sorry got on my soapbox ^_^')

for me, i think people grow to like anime. I have a friend who ive known for a long time and she didnt like anime until recently. i guess my love for anime spreads to others in need of it. :D

if it makes you feel any better, sousuke, most of my HS friends were anime haters, although I did have a group of friends that liked it. At the college I attend now, most people don't even know what anime is. The only examples I can give that they know are like Pokemon, YuGiOh, Digimon, or Dragonball (people that know the last two I actually consider knowledgable in this area)...They don't even want to try it. Lucky me, my roommate's as big an anime nerd as I am...guess how our room is decorated lol.

But, really, I don't think it really matters. Not all friends have the same likes and dislikes...people do tend to be different. Whether you tell them or not is up to you, but I didn't say anything either way to my anime-hater friends. We had other things in common or that we liked and we talked about those things. Some of those things I didn't talk about with my friends that do like anime.
