You always see that each series has it's #1 title, each game company has it's #1 franchise, but are they really the #1?

I ask that we pick apart any game considered the best by it's designers, and truely decide if it's worthy of that title.

To start, pick a company. For this example, Bungie. Obviously, the defining series is Halo. The question is, which Halo is the #1 game? Is it the first with it's strong campaign, the second with it's multiplayer, or the third with it's user created content? And just why does it deserve the title of #1 game of its franchise?

If a company has multiple defining franchises, such as Nintendo with Mario Bros, Metroid, Legend of Zelda, and Pokemon, or Square Enix with Final Fantasy and Dragon Warrior, feel free to pick apart from every series.

Edit: Just so that we can keep the thread going or to avoid too much problems with flaming and such, I'll decide when we've argued enough to come up with a good basis on which game wins. I'll also post the winning games along with the company and series. If you really don't want it to be, then come back later and challenge your right to call it Bull ****.

Bungie: Halo Series: Tie: Halo 2, Halo 3

Halo 1 was really cool so was nr3 but it has been very hyped, and there are many other great games , bungie on the other hand, well they are almost only known for the Halo series.
They could have worked more on Halo2 was a real let down for me , compeared to the first game , lol

Yeah, Halo 1 I could actually play at an equal level with other people, once Halo 2 came out I couldn't take one step without taking a bullet to the skull.

You have to state why as well, and we are currently discussing Halo. But, I'll pick one for the next discussion.

I know how many people like Halo. I know how popular it is. But let me say this.

Halo is an average First Person Shooter game.

Halo is not the genre defining title everyone makes it out to be. Everything that was done in Halo had been done before. It's an average game. Sure, people are like, "but it's the multiplayer that makes it so good!" It's like any other online multiplayer game. You play against people over the internet. If you want to look to the real FPS games that defined the genre, look at the original Doom, Wolfenstein 3D, or Goldeneye. Halo is just an average FPS. It's not a bad game by any means. But it is made out to be much more than it actually is.

I agree koopa, it's not that earth shattering. However, this thread is more to figure out the title that truely defines Bungie.

Continuing on, we actually rented the third Halo last week, and the single player campaign seemed just like the second. I couldn't get that forge thing to work too well for me, even with my brother helping me at it. Besides this, I'm sure the multiplayer is alot like in the first, the only difference is you can be cheap and put mines around the corner.... Wait, you could be cheap in the second too and have a sniper or be a rocket whore.

personaly i think a great Shooting game would have to be splintercell, (sorry not talking about halo, in my opinion it isnt what its made out to be)

i mean splintercell combined 1st person with 3rd person (online) also was not only a shooting game buit required some stratedgy aswell, different gameplay not like many other Shooters out there.

Well i would to start this off by saying, I think that halo 3 was the best in the series. Mostly because the online is so amazing and doesn't have many problems. The story in the third halo was more epic than in any of th others. The new materials they added into they game just worked so much for the game play online. And the editing was what was needed to keep the series alive in this day of age. Not many games give you that much customization in a game.

Since it was suggested upon us before Halo was finished, let's continue with The Legend Of Zelda by Nintendo.

The choices to argue among are the first "The Legend Of Zelda" on Snes, "A Link to The Past". On the N64, "Ocarina of Time". On the wii, "Twilight Princess."

I didn't choose any handheld titles because they were fun little games that you could play whenever, they didn't have the epic presence that was around with the 4 titles I've chosen to represent the series. Same deal for WindWaker, Four Swords, and LOZ 2. They were fun games, but didn't have that epic feeling to gamers when they were announced.
