What more is there to say? I'm fifteen, 5'2" and weigh 137 pounds. Everyone in my family has always been thin except me, and I'm wondering, what aer some things I can do to either get rid of the weight or deal with it? I utterly hate myself as of now, let me be blunt in saying that. My weight problem has gone on for years and is tearing mer down, even though I know it's not that big of a deal. It's holding me back from doing things I want to do and no matter how hard I exercise and diet, I simply gain and never lose. Honestly, I have been in the 130's since the fifth grade and I'm sick of it. Any advice?

Hey girl i know exactly how you feel.
When i started high school i weighed 186 and im 5'4"
But now im in the 130's and i will truthfully tell you what i did to lose.
The truth of the matter is that you have to end up consuming less calories than you need. For a girl of your height i would say youre like me. You probably use about 1600 calories in a day just to run your body.
*very important* For every 3000 calories you deprive your body of, you lose a pound of fat. Meaning, your body uses its fat supply for the energy you either burned off or didn't consume. The same goes for gaining. For every 3000 calories you consume in excess, you gain a pound.
SO, if you start calculating the amount of calories you need (1600) minus the amount you total amount you consumed (the consumed amount taking into consideration the amount you burned off. the TOTAL that you get from amt eaten-amount burned off from working out) you get the amount that your body was deprived of. That amount will be taken out of body fat. When the combined amount for several days reaches 3000, you will lose a pound.
For Example....
Your body uses 1600 calories a day to run.
You eat 1000 calories.
You burn off 200 calories working out.
1000-200= 800, 1600-800= 800
so...your body took 800 calories out of body fat to run. If you keep repeating this daily routine, you will lose a pound approx. every 4 days since 800x4 is 3200. You can manipulate this equation any way you like, with the real amounts of what you actually consume and burn off.
>> I know this all seems very scientific and complicated but it really works and its the truth. If you use this method, i dont really think theres anyway you wont lose weight. Im very sorry this was so long and complicated lol i feel like you might not understand what im trying to say, so im sorry and feel free to ask any questions you like. But i've been where you are and i know how much it sucks and i lost 50 pounds this way, so it really does work. Please ask questions if you need help or dont understand!
Good luck girl <33

wtf?.... girl, (no offense) u don't have any weight problems... but mental problems!
I don't know, I guess people don't have any REAL life problems that's why they find themselves some reasons so they can get bothered and depressed with!
Look around you. How many ppl suffer from real drama. If you think you are overweight, look at those ppl and kids who ARE really having weight problems.
Kids like you irritate me.
But I guess I can blame the system and the multimedia for manipulating the society, depraving people's minds from the real important values, aesthetics etc. Do you have a loving family, do they accept u the way u are?... Then it is all in your mind!
If your weight doesn't match the "media standards" doesn't mean anything. They are wrong. Who in this sick world, with any healthy senses, would come up with size 0?????.... If something is 0 than it doesn't exist! lol.
I pity those girls who are like sticks complaining about their "weight"..... I pity those girls, who are just normal... and catch themselves in this paranoiac game of nonsense...... I feel sorry for those ppl and girls who deal with weight problems, and are treated as less than human beings.
As well as I feel sorry for all of us, that we are the unconscious victims of some stupid, cunning "biz-machine."

Yeah I have to agree. You don't have weight problems at all. But if you really want to lose weight, then start playing sports, running, eating right (of course, meaning no junk food), and that's about all you can do. I do all of the above but then again, I'm way under weight XD But really, you don't have any weight problems.

If your weight doesn't match the "media standards" doesn't mean anything.
Unfortunately, many people think beauty only comes from a cover of a magizine which is negatively reinforced by a society dumb enough to believe it. Don't be one of those people. My advice would be to stop concerning yourself with it, and live life to its fullest.

Ugh. I've never had a problem with weight ever! Every morning when I wake up, I do 20 sits-ups and 20 press ups, then do that before I go to sleep. But, really, watch what you eat and walk if you can!! It really makes the difference.....

People are always talking about weight, weight, weight. If you want to lose weight, GO TO THE MOON, you will weigh less there. Weight does not matter! MASS is what everyone is concerned about. Your weight can constantly change based on the force of gravity. If you go to the summit a really tall mountain, like say Mount Everest, you will weigh less there. If you were to go to the bottom of the sea, you would weigh more there.
MASS. not weight.
Honestly, 130 pounds is not anything to complain about compared to the gelatinous, voracious, morbidly obese people the world over (most of them in the United States). Chill out. You will know when you are fat. You will get that stare in public. Your food expenses will rise and rise. The doorways in your home will suddenly start to become narrower. Chairs will suddenly start to become more prone to being crushed.

I stopped drinking soda and started drinking water. I was 17, 5'1 and weighed in at 180for 4 years of my life. I turned 18, That was May 24th of. Now I weigh 155, and all because I dropped drinking soda. It took me two months to lose 25 pounds! That's about 3 pounds per week. As of yesterday would make it two months. I want to loose weight before I go to college. I didn't want to walk into a nest full off people I don't know and be so overweight. Try dropping soda if you drink it. Not that I think your ungodly overweight. 130 isn't bad compared to me.

your first response was the best one. If you want to reduce your weight (MASS, sorry), then you need to take a serious look at your calorie intake. for someone 5'2", you don't need much to get you through the day. The key thing to look at is sugars, not carbs or blahblahblah whatever. Refined sugars, saturated fats and little to no exercise are the reasons people get themselves into weight issues. One of the best things to do to start a journal of everything you eat, and write down the calories. You'll probably be a little surprised at how much food you needlessly eat. Then work on a system for yourself to keep your intake low. It doesn't necessarily mean depriving yourself of anything that you enjoy, but it may also give you the opportunity to explore the world of food. There's near endless ideas of food to make beyond what comes in a box or a can or wrapped in plastic for your convenience.
Genetics isn't as simple as one person in your family is thin therefore all should be. I'm at least 4-5" taller than the next tallest person in my family. I've been thin most of my life, but now my metabolism's starting to catch up to me and I have to exercise a little more than I used to and not eat as many sweets (deathly for a sweet-tooth like myself). But at your height, you're not too far gone or anything so don't worry yourself too much. The only point where you should worry about your weight is when it becomes a health issue. An extra 10 pounds or so isn't going to keep you down or send you to the grave.
ps. I've got bundles of recipes if you're ever interested:D!

Did you know, back then, heavy set women were found attractive? Thats because if the women had a nice weight to her, it would mean the children would be well fed and well taken care of, ensuring the survival of the human race or at least your own bloodline. It's a instinct thats thousands of years old.

Sorry if I irritate you, but I have to set a few things straight. I have actually been very obese twice before in my life. At the age of eleven, I was 163 pounds (about 80 kg, I think). Even you must admit that is entirely overweight. And for years now, I've just been trying to lower my weight NOT because I'm concerned with being a seize 0 or whatever. My Grabndma is overweight and has diabetes (hereditary, you know) and so are at least half the other people in my family. I'm doing this for health, and if you saw me, you'd know I'm not being paranoid.
Really, I understand what you're trying to say. I know there are people and kids out there who weigh more and are struggling. And I hope you weren't suggesting I look at them as less than human... O.o Because I think the ones who do that are sick. And also, I'm not saying the weight is giving mre drama or whatever. Good lord, I know this (not saying it in a smart alec kind of way, just wanting to make sure you know). But if you had ever in your life been as overweight as I was and still sort of am, you would know why I'm so desperate to get it off. Okay, so it's not full blown desperation, but still... I don't know if you're thin or not, but please try to look at this from my point of view.
It's a matter of being concerned with my health, not fitting into a pair of skinny jeans.

130 pounds isn't a bad weight. You may not be happy with your body type but don't beat yourself up over your weight. Where you are right now is probably healthy, but the person to ask is your personal doctor. If your doctor agrees that you would be more fit at less weight then whatever you do, do not go on any crash diets.
The crash, fast loss, starvation style diets cause the body to go into sugar and food shock. A lot of people and trainers at my gym are now doing the lifestyle change diets and the one that seems to be the most popular with my own personal trainer is "The Eat Clean Diet" by Tosca Reno http://www.toscoreno.com.
This woman woke up one day to being over 200 pounds and lost her husband, she decided to start over and now she is a champion of fitness. I bought her book from Amazon and it is a great read. The results from the gym are apparent a lot faster now.
If you are having trouble in your relationships, just remember that when you look for perfection you find people who can never fit your desire and who will never be satisfied with you because you are not perfect.
Just relax. You are 15 and you will change a lot over the next several years. When you are 25 you will have a whole new set of worries. Prepare yourself for the future by planning for your career. The more money you make, the higher your comfort level will become. Money opens the doors of life and that is your goal, to live your life happy. That doesn't mean you have to be rich, but you don't want to be working at a burger joint at 30 either.
Hope this helps, don't forget to speak to your family doctor and if this kind of thing really bothers you please get professional counseling. It is always best to get advise from people trained in human behavior when that becomes the key issue.

Im sure you've heard this before by it's not whats on the outside it's whats on the inside. You can be butt ugly but if you beautiful on the inside everyone will notice that over the outside. Take Richard Simmons. That fool is FREAKEN ugly but everyone whos met him will swear that he is the most energetic, fun and all around great person. Stop worry about it and live a happy life cause if you do that you'll shine on the outside.

If you really suffer from being "overweight", why don't you take your ass to the gym... (or outside, since it's already summer, sunny, nice and warm) and exercise..... eat lean meat and cut sugars. If you really wanna lose some weight.. then drink ONLY water... w/o any sugar or extra flavor.... don't eat fruits, no sweets - nothing that contains any sugar. You can eat a lot of fish... and meat (but w/o this crusty bread, lol) - the best would be boiled meat or done on steam. Vegetables are fine, but you have to watch out, because there are plenty of those "sneaky" ones that doesn't really help you lose some weight. No dressings.... however you may and should! add 1 or 2 table spoons of (either) olive oil or linseed oil. add some sesame seeds to it... Any beans are fine - they will make you feel full when you are hungry.
Ahhh, there is so many ways to make a right diet.

Did you know, back then, heavy set women were found attractive? Thats because if the women had a nice weight to her, it would mean the children would be well fed and well taken care of, ensuring the survival of the human race or at least your own bloodline. It's a instinct thats thousands of years old.
i thought heavier set women were seen as attractive back then for the same reason that thin people are seen as attractive now? back then, you were heavy if you had plenty of money. if you didn't have to work in the fields for your food, then you gained weight and stayed pale... so money set the beauty standard of the day. it's not much different today, those who have the leisure time to go out and tan, or can afford a good gym trainer are those seen as attractive. yay capitalism.
http://www.donsmaps.com/clickphotos/venuswillindorflarge.jpg
The Venus of Willendorf stands as a testament to that fact.
the venus of willendorf created in a monarchical society which beautified the natural predisposition of women as mothers. she was praised for her mothering qualities, big hips, big breasts, just big all over. big and beautiful :)

I already do all of the above. :/ I exercise more than an hour every day, have had a soda in months, and drink nothing but water. And I also can't take my ass to the gym since there isn't one anywhere near where I live (I'm, not lying, there really is no gym). My problem is metabolism, which doesn't seem to want to increase no matter what I do! But anyways, I'm actually over the weight thing now. I'm thinking my main problem was my sister--being skinny and basically perfect, she always sort of taunted me without having to say anything. But now she's out of the house and I'm suddenly feeling a bit better. Weird, huh?

OK. there must be something you are not doing properly. If I were you I would go see a nutritionist or and dietitian. I know people who got lots of help by receiving some help from those specialists.. because they look at you, your body and the "problem" individually. You don't know what is causing that you are either gaining the weight or can't lose it.... SO why don't you try it.... it doesn't hurt... it can only help you solve your problem.
And just because your sister is away doesn't mean that your problem is gone. As soon as she is back..... your "mental drama" will come back... SO why don't you do something to make you feel good about yourself.

Or, your not doing anything wrong. It could be in your blood. Meaning it came from your late family. It happened with one of my friends. Her parents, sister/brothers are REALLY thin and her grandparents are about normal weight, but she just got a tad larger then everyone else when she never ate fast food, always ate right, ate the correct amount of food everyday (breakfast, lunch, dinner), and on top of all that, we ran and play tennis together. So, I highly doubt your doing anything wrong, it just runs in the family EVEN if the ones still around are thin. It's known to happen.

well, I didn't mean that she is intentionally doing something wrong. but she might be unaware of it. Even if it's something with geneticists... (blood etc) still she won't be able to find it out on her own... that's why it would be best to see some specialist who will test her and tell her what is causing what, and how can she improves it ;)

I'd do that...if I hadn't already. All they ever do is tell me the basic "diet and exercise" stuff. So I figure if I ever do care about weight anymore, I'll do whatever I feel is right. =3 But I'll only resort back to specialists if that don't work.
And I know that, but it's gone as of now. And I'm getting the feeling that even if she came back, I wouldn't care. Really, I'm sort of not caring anymore.

Never think badly of yourself..... it doesn't help... I'm 5' 3" and wiegh 210.... or did anyways... I lost weight by exercising daily.. even if it was just dancing like crazy... for a half hour.... and drinking nothing but water... also getting the right amount of sleep... and daily vitamins... seriously.... but not b vitamins... you'll never sleep again.... I'm now down to 180 and couldn't be happier... of course I still plan on losing more weight... being only 18... i'm still in my prime.. I owe it to myself... I love myself.... a lot... I don't think I weigh to much... I mean seriously I'm over weight but I can arm wrestle the best of them.... also i can lift or bench press or whatever the stupid machine is or does.... 200 something odd pounds.... I walk an entire mile in 15 minutes... sort of... it's a comcast thingy.... but seriously it all works really well....

Unfortunately, many people think beauty only comes from a cover of a magizine which is negatively reinforced by a society dumb enough to believe it. Don't be one of those people. My advice would be to stop concerning yourself with it, and live life to its fullest.
Russkie: dude, i think this is the most positive thing ive ever heard you say.
and vaiyala: ur 5'2'' and 137? i wouldnt say you have SERIOUS weight problem, but it could be a little better. the first person to post a reply to this thread obviously looks like they know what theyre talking about with the calorie burning calculation thingie, and kudos to that person. my advice would have been exercise to burn energy and ration out several SMALL meals throughout the day. whenever you get hungry, eat a little bit and dont overindulge. HOWEVER, DO EAT WHEN YOU'RE HUNGRY. if you starve yourself, your body will go into survival mode, meaning ALL calories, whether it be from a poptart or a celery stick, will turn into fat for future storage. our bodies have not evolved to the point to where we realize that we dont have to hunt and gather our food anymore. we mass produce it. back in ancient times, humans could go for days without food. therefore if the energy DIDNT turn to fat, we would die. nowadays, finding food is no longer a week in the woods hunting a prehistoric deer anymore. but our bodies still keep this "i am not going to eat for the next 3 days" mentality. to balance this out, you need to have metabolism (which is eating to prevent survival mode) and exercise (which is burning the calories you obtain through eating). also, what you eat greatly affects what KIND of calories your getting, whether its fat calories or otherwise. but like i said, once the body goes into survival mode, all energy = fat. hope this helps ^_^

Drink lots of water, exercise everyday, even if it's just a 5 minute walk. Eat healthy foods, and junk food is a no-no. Vegetables and fruits are a definite must.

And on to the topic..weight...and weight loss
it's kinda crazy ain't it? how obsessed people are with weight..nobody's at blame anyway but it has gone too far and i'm sure many will agree...but I THINK the way to lose weight is to not want to lose it...weird? actually it makes sense..
Because if you don't concentrate on it'll come to you naturally...example on how this works...
When i was 10 i wanted to see the Eiffel tower...but i forgot about it and lost focus for 2 years..then on the first day of summer vacation my test scores came out and it was the highest in the school and i got a scholarship to study french in Paris...ahem..i learned nothing..or rather, i remember nothing of the language :D not 1 bit lol...but i got to go, and i saw the Eiffel.
If i hadn't forgotten about it then i wouldn't have been able to focus on studying and getting that scholarship.
to summarize all of that chit chat : Things come to you naturally if you let it go.
now as actually detailed advice (since i know people hate to figure things out on themselves). You simply need to target losing weight on another perspective. Like...er...how about yoga??...running without shoes is considered yoga..i tried it...and i ran in a green field and it was refreshing.I did that in France hahaha~ people thought i was crazy and this middle aged woman asked me "What are you doing?" and i said "Yoga" she was fairly surprised on how could running be considered yoga and i told her it's because you channel the chi/chakra/energy from your legs to your muscles to your nerves. Thus releasing stress. The next thing i know she took off her shoes and was running....I loled quite a bit on that part...cuz she looked like a lunatic...the next couple of days like....5 days later i saw her again she was running at 5:30 am (oh plz notice that the event above happened at dawn too) and she said in a creepy english accent since she's french and all "this type of yoga works miracles!it's like my stress is coming right out of my feat because i was running so fast"
