Im bored so I thought I would start a new topic...
So... Which Anime Character[s] do you think has the worst childhood?
I would have to say..
Allelujah(from Gundam 00) had a pretty messed up childhood. I mean, being an orphan in the HRL (Human Reform League) and being used as a test subject for heinous experiments is just... wrong!
Also, theres that girl Mayu (from Elfen Lied) had such a bad childhood too. I've only seen AMVs of Elfen Lied but to be molested/sexually abused by your stepfather and hurt by your mother is just messed up in so many ways! Also, Mariko was locked up all her life and that is just the 2nd most messed up thing!
So post your thoughts here.

Mayu in Elfen Lied did indeed have a horrible childhood. Also, the main character, Lucy had a really bad childhood as well. She was harassed and tortured by the other kids because of her horns, and she finally found a little dog as a friend, and the bastards beat it to death. After that she snapped and started killing people, Kouta was the only thing that was keeping her from being a detached monster. Then after a misunderstanding, she lost all humanity and ended up hurting the one she loved the most. It was a really really sad story, especially at the very end where she shows her human side and bids Kouta farewell.

I would have to say
Lucy, Nana, Mayu and Mariko
All from Elfen Lied
But they all that very sad stories behind them
Lucy: Gets abandon beacuse of her horns. And in the orphangae she gets tried like she was worthless. And when she finally made a friend she goes and tells her secret to some boys that treat her horribly and the pet dog she had they kill it infront of her. Then the person that she meets up later on became her friend. But she fell for him and she became jelous so she killed the bots father and sister. Then runs away until she meets up with that boy but neither Lucy or Kota have memory of that day.
Nana: She was in an Institute all of her life and they tortured her only because of her horns.
Mayu: Her step-father abused her and also sexually-abused her. And her mother hated her. So she had no choice except run away. And thats when she met the little dog.
Mariko: She was unable to see or walk since she was born. And the only Human contact was the lady that talked to her throught the some mic to her. And all the time she was there all she could think of was her mother and father and how much she wanted to be with them. But her father has "another daughter".
I think Gaara is sad but he has nothing on these girls

sousuke sagara from fmp had a fairly badf childhood. not just the fact that he was a soldier at age 8, but the fact his comrads all died as well.

That's a tough one.....My opinion would have to be Mayu, Gaara, and Seras Victoria. Mostly cause all of them either lost their parents and/or was messed up cause of some event.

I would say shinji from evangelion because his mother died and his father acts like he has no son. And ontop of that he has to live under so much pressure all the time.

This is a draw for me. The only two anime with topics filled with enough violence and mind bending drama to even compete with each other that are not all about violent sex would have to be:
Monster
and
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni with its sequel series Higurashi no Naku Koro ni kai
The main characters in each of those have childhood depictions like no other.
If you don't mind violence, check them out and tell me what you think!

I have to agree with this one. It's really tragic to be a host of some powerful beast that everyone is afraid of and still some would try and obtain this beast, killing the host.
Hyuga Neji's childhood is sad as well. They've been struggling as part of the root family. Luckily, he was straighten out by Naruto.

I think Saya from Blood+ had the worst childhood because she killed people and chiropteran and now she can barely accept herself because of what she did

I'd have to say that all the main characters of Elfen Lied . Kouta had his sister and dad killed. Lucy was hated and bullied and later snapped. Mayu was being Raped in many ways by her step dad and hatted my her mother. The number one are all the poor Diclonius that get killed when they were born and the ones that survived were hated and used in painful human experiments like Nana and some other nameless ones. Wow, Elfen Lied CAN mess you up.

Mostly all the characters in Elfen Lied and Naruto and Gaara got messed up pretty bad. At the very least though at least the don't live on the streets and had nothing to eat.

Oh, on the subject of One Piece characters, how about Nico Robin? She is the ONLY survivor of the attack on her home island (can't remember what the attack itself is called). She lost everyone she knew in one onslaught of destruction. :crying:

Ah, that's right. Knew it was Buster something. Also on Robin, it's good to note how she freaked out when the Buster Call was called again during the CP9 arch. I felt really sorry for her...
Sweet thread, lol.
Hmm. How about Ayato, from RahXephon? He grew up in what he thought was a normal world, then lived through an assault on his city, got chased by strange secret agents, and all-of-a-sudden realized that his whole life--and time period--was a lie; his education was fed to him; his planet was ruled by aliens; his mother (who had always been distant and never seemed to care about him) has blue blood, works for the aliens, and was generous enough to pass her blue blood on to him; and a bunch of freedom fighters--who automatically suspect his loyalties due to the color of his blood--have placed all their hopes for the earth's survival on his shoulders. Not to mention the pressures of being surrounded by young women with whom he could not possibly relate, or the mental strain of trying to manage a relationship with a woman almost old enough to have birthed him. That's got to be pretty tough on a guy. ^_^
