I think you should put the anime in categories. Like I am into Romance/Comedy anime, and I am having trouble finding anime that I like. Well this is just one person's suggestion. :cute:

We have anime reviews, conveniently located in the Anime Reviews section. They can help you decide what to watch next, there are already a good bit of reviews there, and more are constantly being added.

And feel free to ask either me or one of the other reviewers if you want some more suggestions.

yeah but they aren't as convenient as tags, with tags you just put whatever category you want, and it comes up with all the animes in that category. besides the anime review section deosn't review all that many animes in the first place. :ramen:

I must agree with gunbound15 as well as shadovv10.
Placing animes into different categories was something I was actually thinking of, too! Reviews are something different.
And if someone is looking for a quick answer they don't have the time or patience to go through each review...
It's not impossible to create catalogs, though it requires some technical skills. I think this is a more than great idea. I like this manga (http://onemanga.com) site system of categorizing mangas: into genders, most viewed, when updated etc.
Finding the right anime is an issue which bothers me every time when I want to watch something new.
Staffers are not always here, or they are busy fulfilling their duties... and like gunbound15 mentioned earlier, not all of the animes were watched and reviewed, yet.
I've asked Koopaking before to give me some recommendations. I used them. Some of the anime Koopa told me were just fine, and I enjoyed watching it (like: Suzuka).
However the number of anime is growing, we just reached the 500th new series... It's getting harder and harder to search through such an amount of animes, don't you agree? Not to mention that the page is getting verrry long to scroll down, lol ^^
Cataloging would be the most convenient solution.

if you take a look at onemanga.com.... you might get an idea what I'm talkin about.
I don't think that placing each anime under one gender is a good thing. I don't think that's even possible. But who said you have to? Each anime can be described in many ways... like "drama/romance/ecchi".... and by clicking at a different description a hyperlink would send you to a different category/profile... Then a person would have a better idea... what they may expect from this significant anime.
It would be great if someone could create this kind of system...

I think it it much easier and more likely that we will continue to use the system that is currently in place or similar to the one currently in place, if you are curious about an anime you can read the review on it, we shouldn't have to break the anime down not only alphabetically but by category as well, since most animes would reside in multiple categories, that's a lot more work for us, and I personally think it's unfair of a user getting this experience for free to demand that much extra work out of us. Now one thing I have considered is adding a link to the review at the bottom of each anime's description on the episode list page since most animes have a paragraph description about the anime it should be too hard to slap a review link on there, then someone who has found that anime, read the description and is curious what type of anime it is, or what ratings other ppl gave it can click the link and view it. Personally I think that's the best way to go at least for now and will result in the least amount of extra work for the staff. Ideas and recommendations are appreciated, but it seems like we're expected to do all this work for free just to make the users happier about getting a free experience w/o having to download these series from the web or watch them on youtube, and that's just wrong. Anytime we're a little late on requests or reports we get threads chewing us out, and now we have a thread telling us this free site isn't good enough for the users despite having the largest selection of series and functioning links available on the web. Take a step back ppl, realize that because of us, you don't have to search a dozen sites to find something most of the time, you don't have to download 3gb torrents to watch a series, and what seems most important to all of you, you don't have to pay for this site or the dvd's, and remember all that before complaining again. Free site, volunteer staff, in the last 3 weeks, I've had the opportunity to watch a whole 4 1/2 episodes of anime, b/c I'm so busy doing work to make you all happy, it makes me feel so appreciated when ppl then complain that we aren't doing a good enough job.

Wait I minute, wait a minute!!! Okay first true this site is free and I am grateful to have such a good site but my comment was just a suggestion not a complaint.:dizzy: Maybe I should have thought it through before posting something like this. Maybe I was being a little inconsiderate so I am sorry:eyes: I just didn't realize that so much work was needed just to put them in categories.

well why dont we all help to put it into catagories :D
someone can make a thread that lists all the anime that is available here. Then people can post and tell you what anime's have what catagories. I can help in doing all this :)
then, after i am done...all the admin has to do is...make an extra page in the website that lists all the Catagories, like "Romance / Action / Shojou" etc. and make it so when u click one of these catagiories...for example Action...it takes u to another page that has a list of all the Action Anime's.
If you dont wanna make new webpages on the main site..we can do this in the forums. make like..a forum that says Catagories, and then sub-forums for the different catagories. i'm not sure :P
just thinkin of ways to make this easy

Is the review section not good enough, it has tags which categorize each review, so you can go into the review section search for or click on a specific type of tag that you like and find out what we have that way, yes we know there aren't a lot of reviews, the reviews section is still fairly new and our small staff of reviewers is watching anime as fast as they can so as to provide you w/ a better experience, until we get get caught up on our current requests, and the review section, I do not foresee us doing anything that would require extra coding like you want, I also know many of you were not complaining but we have received a number of complaints and a lot of griping, and this just happened to be the straw that broke the camel's back, I apologize but stand by what I said, in the meantime, enjoy the site, and keep watching anime.
***Also maybe in the near future as more reviews get added and we have some free time we may be able to make the tags on the reviews link to a short list of anime that has other anime listed that has that tag, but I'm not promising anything, part of the problem is that most anime doesn't fit into any one category, and any categorical listing of anime by genre would be insanely long as so many anime exist across so many genres, which is part of the reason it's easier to have a basic list on the front page, then a picture, number of eps, and a short description on the lettered pages and a review with genre tags in the review section, I will however look into adding a link to the review section on the front page, as this seems the easiest and most feasible option to appease everyone so that the reviews will be more readily accessible to someone curious what everyone else thinks of the anime.

errr.... Corvin....
I am having this impression.... that you don't even read what ppl wrote in this thread.
Obstinately you try to impose that "reviews" are the only and the best solution here..... When members are clearly saying that "review section" is not good enough, it lacks in information.. and it requires more effort... not to mention it's time-consuming.... For me it is like a .... "detour" ! (lol)... the longer way I have to take to get around something, but not something precise and direct.
AF members are sharing some great ideas here, suggesting , in their opinion, the best solution... if the current system was as "easy" as YOU think it is... then no one would come up with any suggestions to improve it. Simple as that. And NO one is complaining. I like this site very much. But in comparison with other site's systems.. I can't lie and say that this one is the best of all.
Ok. I understand, that YOU might not like the idea to "genderizing" animes .... - ok. say it you don't like it... but saying that the way it is now is the best - is not true... your opinion is not everyone's opinion...
If we would vote. I bet we would find out many different opinions.... ;)
OK. so we all know now, that nothing is gonna change... It is good enough the way it is..... ;)

These are the main anime catagories. Most anime's arent in any more than 3-4 of these catagories at one time

# adventure
# comedy
# drama )
# ecchi
# fantasy
# gender bender
# historical
# horror
# josei
# manhwa
# martial arts
# mecha
# mystery
# psychological
# romance
# school life
# sci-fi
# seinen

Actually Spirit I very carefully read and consider each and every post, and I'm saying that the work involved in setting something like the categories up would be time consuming and a pain in the ass, it's not as easy as you all think, and actually, you all are complaining, you say our current system isn't good enough for you and that you want the staff to take time out from their already busy schedules to implement an entirely different organizational system just to please you so that you aren't inconvenienced by reading a review section that, while I already admitted previously Spirit is woefully unfinished, already has genre/tag listings that you are looking for although no way to link them. As for Viesta's list of genre's, only 24, w/ each anime generally existing across 3 or 4 categories, sometimes more, yeah that won't be difficult and time consuming to do, that only means I have to create several new pages, as well as rewrite every link for every series, 3 or 4 more times, that's only 1500 to 2000 lines of code just for the url's, and I'm sorry you have such a problem w/ reading a description or looking into the reviews to decide what you want to watch, but if it's such a big deal you can find another site more accommodating to your desired lack of effort, or you can deal w/ the current setup and enjoy our current selection of anime. There are numerous sites that do categorize their anime selection, all 60 series or so, or there are also sites that are solely for information purposes that categorize and review/describe anime so that you can use those sites to find out what you want to watch next.
