I want to know what games did you think had some of the greatest story lines ever. I dont care what system or how old the game is . I will start it off by saying one of the greatest story lines ever has to be legend of the dragoon. It made me play it over and over and it helped that the game was amazing.

my favorite game was final fantasy 7 dirge of cerebus, it follows the story of Vincent Valentine as he treis to remeber what happened to the women he loved, Lucrecia

Legend of Dragoon of course was a great storyline as was Final Fantasy XII and Star Ocean 'Til the End of Time, and one of my personal favorites of course, were the storylines from Kingdom Hearts I and II

yes they did, of course I also forgot to add Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross, and just for the hell of it, Earthbound, let's face it, a large number of the rpg's released by Square and it's later incarnations have become golden hits, they are the poster child for great storylines

Legend of Dragoon, freaking owns the gaming discussion.
On that note, there's alot of games with good stories, but good is subjective of course. Unless it's final fantasy, then it's gotta be good. Unless it's in X with the Tidus laughing cutscene... or XI with it's lack of story... or XII with it's forgettable plot.

You got that right they have had so many good titles that it would be hard to name them all. I would love to put forth god of war. theres nothin like a mortal rising to power then going mad with it.

FF XII was pretty good, I personally liked the gameplay and storyline, even FF X wasn't that horrible, I just wasn't too happy w/ the ending, FFXI had a storyline, it just required about 100hrs of gameplay to see enough of it to know what the hell was going on but that's what you get for expecting a storyline from an online game, it was good though, and I definitely had fun w/ the summoner class in that game, but as far as an mmorpg went, it tanked in my opinion except for the storyline, as for FF X-2, that would be the only FF I think that didn't really have a good storyline, it could have been good, but they tried to make too many twists and turns and surprising plot revelations, that it just ended up getting to the point where I don't think anyone cared, especially after they realized it was really just a port of "Barbie Dress Up: The Final Fantasy Edition"

The story of Final Fantasy VII is one of the most highly developed, most well articulated story in any video game ever. They incredible amount of writing they put into every character, every area, and the history is staggering. Hardly any video games have matched the deep mythos of the world of Final Fantasy VII, which is truly one of the greatest games ever made.
(I did like Final Fantasy IX better though heheheh)

Ive noticed that apparently the best storylines have come from final fantasy but i dont get why people complain about there being to many. They have to be doing something right if we are sitting here going down the list that we are naming and 8 was one of my favs lol.

amen, the story itself was so amazing, plus all the secret back stories that were to be found as well. not to mention the link up of the beginning to the end. Gave me chills the first time I finished it. truly my favorite game story.
I think chrono cross totally completed chrono trigger. It was an amazing sequel story wise.
I like valkyrie profile's story so much. It's like a bunch of interwoven short stories with a mirroring story at the centre. Plus the subtle mysteries that lurked about in it made it really interesting.

huh? are you on crack? a GTA game coming in for best storyline? next thing you're going to be saying is that Soul Calibur or Street Fighter should win for best storyline, or maybe Britney's Dance Beat will win best graphics and gameplay, seriously what are you thinking?

I'll be strange and throw in a game that IS NOT an RPG.
Half Life. That game is so rich in detail. Okay, so the main character doesn't talk...but that doesn't subtract from the fun.
I also thought KoToR had an excellent story line. (From what I can remember.)
Corwin
06-12-2008, 02:39 PM
yeah KoToR was fun and I have heard that Half-Life had a very interesting story, another fun one of course is Baiten Kaitos, I didn't like the battle system but the overall story and gameplay was fun

Let's put it this way; All of Shakesphear's works are considered masterpieces, but if your actor blows then it's underappreciated as a play. If you have a play with a confusing plot, and you don't understand it by the end, but your actors have the greatest emotion and range, you have people that will go on to do great things, but a writer who's gonna live on the street. The performers are the only ones remembered.
Now, the most I've been able to figure out with GTA 4 involves someone immigrating to New York. That's pretty much it. However, everyone loves the writing for the dialogue, and the voice actors go very well to their intended parts, but the plot, the story, I have no idea if there even is one past the immigration part.

That was well said. But moving on i think Call Of Duty 4 had a great story line and a sad ending. I think that was the best story line for a war game in a while.

Wrong. That's not the whole plot. The main plot to GTA: IV is that Niko us trying to find one of his comrades that betrayed him on a number of occasion's.

I've been making my way through gta 4 and it's a cool story, gotta agree. "welcome to the layer cake" jumpin out of a pile of crap only to step in sh*t and the wiping that ensues to make you spic and span. climbing the retarded ladder that is life. I mostly love the way they can ridicule the "american dream" and make it appear so illogical and meaningless.
I think the stories to most of the new school gta games are good ( except vice city is pretty much just a scarface rip off). The problem is there's so fn much going on in gta games, such as sub missions, cruising around, having to run stupid errands and doing favours for people that the main story gets mixed into the crowd. Maybe 25% of the missions in most of them can tie into the main story development, so it's not the steady progression that most other games have going for them.
I've always enjoyed Silent Hill stories too... although they are definitely not in the same league.
I actually love the silent hill stories, they were great games apart from the scaring the piss out of you factor. silent hill 2 had a great story.

Those Silent Hill games were great, kept me on the edge of my seat, kept my heart pumpin, and.....somtimes....about made me wet myself. lol. (Not really)
I cant say that for the Resident Evil series, those felt almost predictable in their plot, but they did have a real "Shock" value, if you know what i mean.

Well that book is stupid because metal gear solid had changed many things about video games and no 6.5 series is going to do that. Metal Gear Solid is one of the reasons that the playstation was so great. And the story line is not that hard to understand if you have played them all. World of Warcraft extended the storyline, it's just it was so spars, and even in when they did make an effort to continue the story it was always through the major raids that only a select elite really made it not only to, but finished, so only they got the benefit of the extended storyline, if I had to pick an MMORPG that had a storyline I'd say FFXI Online, I may not have liked the lvling system and certain aspects of the battle system, but it did have a great story line and continuing development available to all players not just the elite who could spend 18hrs a day on the game

What part of this thread is about "Gameplay". So was Ico's storyline, but it was still good, I kind of wish Ico had a sequel, just to find out what happens, as for World of Warcraft, like I said, it had a very good storyline, the problem was that it wasn't easily accessible to most players like the storyline in the mmorpg FFXI Online was, it's not that mmorpg's don't have storylines, it's just that some of them manage to incorporate the storylines into the games well, and some do a horrible job, WoW did a decent job, but didn't make it accessible enough, except in the basic quest portions, whereas FFXI made it very accessible to all players, the lvl system was just annoying as hell, I'm sure there were one or two more mmorpg's w/ a good storyline, such as Trickster Online, that sounds good from what I've read about it, not the greatest storyline but good, I just haven't played a ton of mmorpg's

my only problem w/ KH:CoM was that stupid card battle system, I could have lived w/ using cards to create the new areas, that was kind of neat, master of each world, but I'm not a big fan of card battles, they might as well set it up so i can play Texas Hold'em against the enemies, it seems about as intelligent, last card battle system I was willing to play was Baiten Kaitos, it was good but the card system got old real quick even though it was somewhat innovative, CoM couldn't even really claim innovation for theirs even w/ the combo system
