Ok ladies and gents. Here we talk about some close calls we've had. It could be anything that got your heart racing and adrenaline pumping to staring death in the face.

So yesterday I was working. My job is to remodel, paint, minor construction, you know stuff like that. So I was working and we are working at a Public Storage. We're doing a whole entire remodel for it and it happens to be a two story building. Now I'm pretty used to working in high places so normally I don't worry to much. So I had this really tall ladder that was at leat 20 feet high. I used this ladder to try to go up a part of a wall that was only 11 feet high so I had the ladder at a dangerous angle. So I climbed up it and I was almost to the top, at least 15 feet of the ground, when the ladder slips under me. God the sensation of it slipping is not cool. So I start to fall with it and I had a split second to grab onto something other then the ladder to break my fall. Lucky there was a gutter and I grabbed onto that for a second to break my fall enough for me to land really hard on my feet. I got really lucky I caught that gutter cause the way the ladder was falling and the angle I was leaning I woulda landed on my head. God I will never make that mistake again.

Ouch thats really pretty creep, I never want to be in that kind of situation O_o

Well, heres mine, happened a think a year ago sometime in the winter. I was walking to school in the morning of course, was insanely cold and there was ice everywhere so it was pretty hard to walk around in, when this car (with the driver either asleep or very drunk) came speeding down the road and hit the left side of me, and I believe I went rolling. I can't remember cause that kinda shook me up a bunch. So I broke my left leg and left arm, and a rib. I still have scars xD

But yeah thats mine.

I fell twenty four feet, I slowed myself down by pushing my legs against the bin boxes and back to the wall, I hit the ground, broke nothing. I have scars, and this nasty close call story from all of it.....

Sounds impossible but it aint....

Hmm you know I have never really been badly injured so far in my life. No broken bones or anything like that. But I remember one time, I had this lamp, and I plugged it into an electrical outlet, and it short circuited and the lamp didn't work. I got pretty mad and I pulled it out and tried to plug it back in, and suddenly there was a huge spark and the outlet burst into flames and I got blown backwards about two feet and I had to take off my pants and stomp on them because they were on fire.

Thats kinda funny Koopa. I could imagine you getting all mad at an outlet then geting blown away from it! LOL!!

few years back me and my brother were dicking around in the garage, when we came across a vacuum. The vacuum had a suck/blow option, and it was currently set to blow. Now I dont know what possessed me to put my mouth over the tube, but I did, my brother being the shit that he is turned the damn thing on. My lungs began to expand at an incredibly fast right before I felt a pop and let go of the vacuum.

Scared the crap out of me, if I had held on even a little longer my lungs would have exploded. Guess this is darwanism at its finest?

haven't had too many, mostly just a lot of near misses by many many fast moving cars. On koopas note though, electrical sockets should be a part of everyone's life, I've had numerous encounters of being household shocked into the wise man I am today. My best was when I was quite little and put my tongue in one. nobody even dared me, it was sheer curiosity. and look at me now!

I was somewhat in a rush b/c I want to cook on the wok, and then while I wasnt paying attation I chop off a little peace of my left finger tip. It didnt hurt right away till it start to bleed and I bleed for like 2 days or so.

Scariest thing that I remember happening to me right now, car crash on a highway, lots of cars, lady slowed suddenly w/o warning, I tried to avoid and hit her, that caused my car to spin, as it crossed the other lane I got hit by another car, which knocked me back into my previous lane, at which point I was hit again spinning me back to the other lane, where I got hit again, this went on for who knows how long, hard to track time in a situation like that, but when all was said and done, I had been hit by 13 different cars, and hit 1 myself, which meant I had personally involved 15, including my own, not to mention all the cars that ran into each other as a result of this situation, suffice it to say, 55mph road, going 55-60mph w/ at least 14 high speed collisions that I know of, can't blame me if I lost count, I shouldn't have walked away from that, everyone was amazed I did, I got out of my car, checked on the lady I hit initially, and then walked around my car and looked around, I made it out of that w/ a pinprick on my finger and some muscle stiffness, that's it, EMT's were in such disbelief that I was taken to the hospital to check for fractures, concussion, and internal bleeding, none of which seemed to be in evidence. That was some scary shit when it was happening. Especially when I realized I'd just totaled my dad's car. That was a really scary thought.

oh man corwin, my brother did the same thing with my mom's car. Out on the highway, hit some ice and got smashed by car after car until he ended up on the shoulder. got out and had a sore back for a few days and that's it. I saw him a couple days after and he was telling me about it and I couldn't believe he was standing there after what he's said.

Yeah that's kind of how everyone felt about me, my car went from a 1990 Chevy Cavalier Coupe to a tin can 2/3 the size of the original, and no one could believe that I didn't find religion after that

Ok this might not be the worst thing that could happen but it was winter in DC. Me and my football team when i was like 12 just won the championship, so we decide to dick around on the frozen lake. My friends were all doing victory dances on the ice, and i was on the side just sitting on my ass. Then some dumbshit *cough* Jordan Prather *cough* decides that it would be a good idea to throw a giant rock on the ice. The rock is thrown, and the chunk of ice i'm sitting on breaks. i hit my head on the ice as i fall down, and get swallowed by the lake. it was freaking freezing so i could barely swim at all, and i didn't know where to get out. so another giant rock is thrown by a friend, later i'm told it was the same idiot, and they stick the trophy down; i swam to it and grabbed on. they pulled me up and carried my freezing ass to my house. i didn't get too sick but i was numb everywhere for like the longest time.

Corwin

well I can see how that would be scary for you illuma, in fact i know what it was like, i was on a frozen lake when the ice started cracking, the first crack that appears scares the shit out of you, and then it's just a heart pounding race to see if you can make it off the ice safely or if you're going for a swim, as for that dumbass you were w/, I think he should have been the next person going into the lake

Oh god, I'm a magnet for danger, I swear. My husband will agree. -___-

Well, the most recent was this winter we had a ton of black ice, and I didn't realize it because it was in patches. I have a lead foot, so I drive like 20 mph faster than I should ;>_> Anyways, I hit a patch of it and slid right into a telephone pole. I'm fine, but my car isn't. For now I'm stuck with our random Mercedes, which I don't know why we have it. You'd think 5 cars is enough, but apparently not. I ended up with 11 stitches on my head, a few scars--which I was told that they would go away but have yet to do so--on my neck, chest, arms from glass, and my back and neck were sore for a week or so.

The scariest thing that has ever happened to me was last October I went to go visit my Husband's family down in Texas. Where they live, there is a LOT of gang violence. Rob, Anthony, Tiffany, and I went to go walk to the store--it's about a 15 minutes walk from their house--around dinner time to pick up a few things for Ron to make dinner, and we see a gang. Anthony tells me "Don't worry about them, Lien. Those guys are just pussies. They're all talk. They threaten us all the time, but never back it up. Pretend they don't exist." He's the more...how to say...outspoken one of Rob's family, so he tends to get into fights with them, but scares them off because he actually has actions to back up his words. Well, they must've learned from the many previous times, and they had guns with them. We go into the store and come out 10 minutes later, and then hear a gunshot. We look over and the gang was shooting at the trees. We pick up our pace heading for home. Then, another gun shot, but this time, I was at us. It barely missed Tiffany, so we all start running, and Rob and I are last to run up the stairs and get shot at again, and it actually hit Rob, which scared me half to death. Luckily, it went through one of the bags first and he didn't get hurt as bad as he could. I was bawling the second I heard him shout in pain. The thought of losing someone you love more than anything else right in front of your eyes is not one you want, trust me. Anthony came back and helped me pull Rob back inside and we took him straight to the hospital. He's fine now, of course, but holy shit...I still have nightmares about that and it takes Rob hours to get me to stop bawling and reassure me that he's perfectly fine.

Oh, I forgot one. My sibblings and I were repainting the shed in our back yard, and I was up on the ladder painting up near the roof, and my brother was supposed to be holding the ladder for me. Well, there was a little patch I couldn't reach, and I didn't even think to go up a step or two, so I kept trying to get it from where I was, and I threw my arm back just a bit too far, and the ladder slowly started to fall backwards, and if I hadn't have been screaming bloody murder, my brother wouldn't have pushed the ladder back against the shed and I would've killed myself.

DAMN your life is dangerous, well at least to normal people. i have some gangsters in my family so i don't have to worry about gang violence near my house, but it sucked that someone close to you got shot. i mean my cuz gets shot all the time but he just tells me to laugh it off. Now that i think about it though i have one messed up family.

Ariya
06-12-2008, 02:02 AM
Don't we all have messed up families? Dude, someone getting shot isn't something to laugh about. In a video game, I guess, or if you're Koopa and you did the shooting, then I guess it's okay to laugh, but not someone close to you.

I don't know, if someone pissed me off to the point of extreme physical violence, I'd have to say I'd be laughing at them and their pain, it's not that I'm really that cruel, it's just that when I finally decide that someone needs to be taught a lesson or revenge dished out, I don't just get even, I get vindictive, it may seem a little extreme, but I've never had someone stupid enough to come back to bother me after I've served them up some pain, and heck, even then, it's not always about physical pain, blackmail works exceedingly well, you just have to make sure to always know a few things to your advantage

When we are the topic of something scary a few days ago me and my friend were playing in a shopping cart. I was in the front and he was pushing not knowing it we went down a hill the made us fly through a busy intersection and we missed from getting hit by a few inchs. When we got across the street i was shocked and my friend p***ed him self in the heat of it all. But it was a rush that i have never felt before it was so much fun.

Heh..Ive never broken a bone, had stitches or been a hospital patient yet..but Ive done a few stupid things..

Like sticking the wires of a 3V motor, that Id removed from a toy, into the outlet at age 7....(It seemed like such a good idea at the time..seriously! It did!)...
Sparks flew..the wires chard..the motor had a bluish scar by the connections..and for some reason the motor never worked again...
But its a good thing the carpet didnt catch on fire...or I didnt get shocked...my parents would be a lil' annoyed

That time I accidentally lite the top of bug spray can on fire after using it as a flame thrower....which is sorta bad seeing they can explode.....
But at least the flies were dead...^-^

Then there were those 2 times I ran out into the road...at night...wearing black...saw headlights coming just before I made it to the road and came to a stop just barely in time not to be hit...
or the time my sister pushed me into the side of moving bus...
And that time I jumped off the 2nd floor at school for a good 15 foot drop......(the idea came to me sitting bored in french....a very boring french class)

Of course there are those very nonthreatening multiple cases of blows to the head as child from doing stupid things...

Or the countless times I plugged in something in the dark but had my fingers on the prongs resulting in a 'shocking' experience..or that time I licked a malfunctioning power adapter (it was going between 0V to full power..it wasnt supplying power when it was plugged in so I double checked...then it starts working...most painful thing my tongue has ever experienced..)

But yeah...good times...good times

Another time I was on the road going from Seattle, Washington to Denver, Colorado with a friend. I had driven the first 10 hours of the trip and my friend had taken over. It was around 6am, I was sleeping in the back seat of the truck -we were driving a Chevy Avalanche- when I wake up to hear my friend say "OH SHIT!!" Next thing I know I feel the car swerve left then right then left then right. I think we swerved at least 5 times before I felt this floating sensation caused by the car rolling and we landed on the driver side of the car. My friend was being a stupid dumbass and was going 70 mph in cruise control DURING a snow storm and we hit a patch of black ice. That was really not fun. One second your asleep then next you wake up in terror cause you don't know whats going on. I remember my first thought was "What the hell??" The second was "What the hell did this fool do!?!?" And my third was "OMG THIS IS A CAR ACCIDENT!!! TRY TO GRAB ONTO SOMETHING!!!" We both walked away with no harm though I got lucky cause I was laying flat on the back seat with no protection and when we landed my head hit the side window causing my head to land in a weird position. My friend thought I had broken my neck. So lesson learned NEVER drive 70 mph in cruise control during a snow storm.

One of them involves a 4-5 year old me..throwing a decent sized rock up...little bigger than man's fist...
It fell back down on my head...

Oooh this reminds me of something un-smart that wasnt my doing!

That is chemistry class back when I was 15..or 16...I forget...one of the 2 last years..
We were doing mixture methods lab...and the teacher was demonstrating the direct combination ie Iron powder mixed with sulfur powder add heat and volia Iron sulfide..(it feels weird tying sulfer with an f..>.<..)

But yes as I was saying the teacher went ..placed the crucible with said iron and sulfur on the tripod over the Bunsen burner..and..the contents caught on fire.....
So Im thinking "hmm....thats weird..".as the teacher is trying to out it with a beaker in vain...then all the sudden I cant breathe....noone really can
"Oh yeaaah! Sulfur burnt in air = sulfur dioxide .."..a poisonous choking gas...
So every one had to run outside and wait for the lab to air out...

I later jokingly asked the teacher if our results should be "mixture caught on fire and caused the class to flee the classroom gasping for air.."....she said no because she could have been fired....
She still works there too...

But yeah..great fun...::D:...
