And as a staff member, you were supposed to help out with the site (video, links, reports, requests) and you did some stuff I think your first week as staff. Then you did leave for a little bit with excuse, but that was over a month ago. We have seen you online for the past month, and you didn't do any of your staff duties. Then last week, Corwin posted that final warning about inactive staff, and you had a week to step it back up. Sorry, but we can't have staff that don't help out with the site. It's a volunteer position, so it kind of sucks when someone gets on staff and doesn't do anything. This exact same thing happened to Ariya, and actually we kept her on staff for too long without her doing anything.

That is nice for someone who spent almost their life on this site for people who don't even explain theirselves when the discharge people.....

I mean I wouldn't make such a fuss if I didn't truely care about this site, what I did, and the stuff I could do....

But whatever, I am leaving anyways.....

Who the hell are you?

KillionX6

You could atleast be a little less rude about it and make my rank go back, and make me a member again, oooo and maybe TELL ME about the discharge....

you are still a member, and there was a warning posted that gave you an entire week to straighten things out. I didn't give you that title, Corwin was giving it out. We didn't need to tell you about it, there was a warning that gave you an entire week's notice, and you were online several times in the last week.

You have to remember that everyone has different emotional limits. Koops is likely to ban anyone and everyone who would dare go against him, while Corwin tends to lean towards a more pacificial approuch.

Actually when this site first started out, some staff members weren't doing their tasks. I believe that's why the current senior staff members are stricter with their rules and expectations.

Quite frankly, you have no right to be offended, nor do you have grounds to demand a reason prior to being dismissed. You didn't keep up with your duties, therefore stuff that was expected to get done by you, wasn't.

You want to know who I am? It's not important, I'm not staying. I'm glad this place has continued to grow and improve. Although it seems staff status is given a little too easily, even if they are volunteers and you need the extra help, there should be more of a requisite than a tiny application and a mature attitude about the forums.

Oh and.......................................::D:

Brilliant way to put it, xdebug

there should be more of a requisite than a tiny application and a mature attitude about the forums.

and indeed but what? Not that easy to determine...

Corwin
06-10-2008, 04:38 AM
Yes I know it should be stricter xDebug, but the problem is partly that the ppl applying for staff are too young to really understand the responsibilities that are incurred when you join the staff, so it's kind of hit and miss, sometimes I get a great addition, but I get 2 staffers that are only active during their first 2-3 weeks for every great staffer I pick up, it sucks but not a lot I can do about it, other than try and explain the staff position well enough during the interview that people are more honest about their ability to do it.

As for Killion, Koopa is mostly right, you were active like the first 2-3 weeks, maybe a month, then you started showing up on and off, you did make an effort to fix reports and that was much appreciated, but in the last few weeks, you have been almost nonexistent in regards to staff duties, and it's not like I tried to hide the warning, it was a post w/ an exclamation point on it, entitled Final Warning, anyone who stopped in and even glanced at the Staff forum would have seen it, so you don't really have any room to complain there. Apparently time spent watching anime, or with your girlfriend I believe, is more important to you than fulfilling your duties as a staff member. Now I can understand and sympathize with that, and I don't think your choice was wrong, but I need staff members who will be here more than once in a while. Even Ariya, who frankly was kept around way too long considering her lack of work, saw the message and all she seems to do is pop in for 2min to check stuff. So if you have a problem with your dismissal you may want to look back at how you acted and decide if you would want someone working for you to act like that.

Have you considered having a trial test instead of putting people in full control? Like you assign new applicants the ability to replace videos, let them try for a few days, then gradually allow more options to be sure that they can handle the responsibility?

Koopaking
06-10-2008, 05:23 AM
we already do that, but the thing is everyone will end up working in the trial period, They can just take off afterwards. Well at least we would get some work out of them...

quietchat
06-10-2008, 05:33 AM
Point taken. What if you say that the trial period will last for an unspecified length of time, until the current staff decides that you are ready to be assigned a full promotion? If they are dedicated you can get them going for another week or so, if not then you find out when they get fed up and stop caring.

Corwin
06-10-2008, 05:45 AM
It's already that way quiet, we hire someone, they get the staff name, b/c that's the only way to go, but they get that little Probie title under their staff tag, the probationary period lasts for an indeterminate amount of time, and at the end of the probation period, the current full time staffers get together and discuss if we want to keep or dump someone, so far, the only one who didn't make it out of probation w/o voluntarily resigning was Killion, all but 2 of the staffers we've had work very hard during their first week or three, then about 2/3's of them inexplicably wander around the forums strutting their blue name, or just don't do anything at all if they bother show up. Killion would have probably been gone a little while back but we were too busy to have a staff meeting and vote on if we wanted to keep him past his probationary period, we were actually hoping that he would show back up and do some work, but in the end, we were let down. And no matter how many precautions we take against this sort of thing, there are always going to be bad hiring decisions that look like a good thing at the time, if nothing else, at least we got some work out of him in the beginning.

Now, after a recent pm from Killion, it appears I may have been in the wrong, in his case at least, as other staff demotions I stand by, but if after I have a chance to verify his statement, I find that I am in the wrong on this particular demotion, I will freely admit I was wrong and he will be reinstated on a new short term probation, if, after the probation is over, the staff as a group, since I don't decide these things arbitrarily, we do use somewhat of a democratic method, decide that he is a good fit for a staff position, he will be retained once more until such a time as he no longer fulfills the obligations he has agreed to. Now to avoid further problems on all sides, it would probably be best if I were to take care of this now, but it's time for sleep as I have work in the morning, so this will not be resolved until after work tomorrow. Guess we'll see what happens then.

Corwin
06-12-2008, 05:34 AM
who knows, might as well ask why some ppl post to threads that haven't had a new post in several months, just b/c they feel the need to respond to something, another question might be why do ppl start new threads for a topic that is already ongoing, I'm sure they just want to express their point of view and be able to respond to everything when a reply is made, not 3 pages into an ongoing thread
