View Full Version : best way of transportation

Ok. In the previous thread I asked about ppl's preferences regarding manual or automatic cars. Meanwhile, Koopaking jumped in with a silly question "Why not just go by train?" lol
Therefore, I came up with an idea for the topic to talk about xD
What are the most favorite... or maybe "the best" in your opinion, ways of transportation.
When I lived in a bigger city I used to walk a lot, or used public transportation, like: bus, streetcar (tram), or a cab.
Since I moved to a smaller town, I got limited only to a car :/ It's kind of depressing, but most of the places are scattered all over the sates.... and the only way to get anywhere is to go by the high-way....
However, I encourage you to use your imagination....
If there's someone who wish to go by a boat.... or maybe even a paragliger - please share that though with us!!

For me the best form of transportation is running/walking. I will on occasion use rollerblades to get around >.> And since everything (and I mean just about everything) is within a 40 mile radius, I can run/walk/rollerblade to just about anywhere and get some stuff done (i.e getting food/drinks, school stuff, etc.) :D

Well driving for me is my way to escape from it all. Give me a long empty highway at night and I will be happy. Only at night is when I can drive around Houston and actually see the beauty of it.

Had to go with walking, I enjoy being outside, breathing the fresh air, and having a little time with my own thoughts. Also you can find neat things, I found my digital camera as I was walking along the side of the road, and it's easier to duck around a corner and put on my super hero costume; I don't have to find a place to park and run the risk of missing the villainy!

I like to walk and ride bikes. For longer travels i prefer train, though i often have to drive to get to the train station. I like flying as well.
I hate buses though, they are terrible to sit in, its always too hot and in the city its barely faster than walking.

Well for me personally it would be the bike, although that is somewhat biased since that's all I have currently, well that and a pair of Rollerblades, either way they get me where I need to go most of the time, and let's face it, ppl are more inclined to steal a car than a bike, although I do wish I had a car still sometimes for inclement weather or long trips, or heck, just to make some short trips a little faster since the bike does take a while to get there, but I like the bike b/c in a given month, even if I have to replace both innertubes, I might end up paying a grand total of $8, and since most months I don't need any sort of repairs on the bike, I don't have to pay for gas or insurance, and basic repairs can be done w/ a wrench, a screwdriver, and some effort, I save a lot of money and stay in shape as well, but when it comes to motorized transportation, I'd have to say something on the order of trains and planes, something simple, carries a lot of passengers, and they are more designed to go further distances than you can really do on a bike, this world might be a lot better off if everyone biked most places, or used those stupid looking little Vespa's

Ok first off teleporting foreign objects into another dimension and another time line is strictly forbidden. If you never got the memo from QWYSTTRH the maker of our universe, it said to not teleport anything into another dimension or another timeline. We ourselves can go and whatever we have on us which is usually nothing but clothes so it won't effect anything, but taking things is a no no, causes parallel paradoxes which take a lot of time to fix and I refuse to go work at that dam station to fix those dam problems. Takes centuries.

thoki
07-15-2008, 11:28 PM
They might be forbidden but rules are meant to be broken. I can do whatever I want when I want and where I want and I don't care what other people think or say or even do. I can still teleport to me a thing from a store and teleport back the money to pay for the things. I never said that I will teleport thing in to the future or another dimension, did I? I only said it in the present tense. But I can still teleport thing in to the future or the dimension while not being there.

High Dive Ride a rocket into space and then abandon ship? You'd need to be nuts–or desperate. Either way, space diving could be the future of reentry
By Speed Weed Posted 06.25.2007 at 2:00 am 0 Comments
Suiting Up for the Big Jump: Future space divers will need a suit able to withstand the high heat of reentry and provide adequate oxygen to the diver. Because no current pressure suit meets that criteria, Orbital Outfitters is developing its own. Here are the features it will need. Photo by Brown Bird Design; Suit Concept: Nick Kaloterakis

Scenario 1: Sport

Sixty miles up, you sit in a chair on the open deck of a small rocket, admiring the stars above, the Earth far, far below. The vacuum beyond your visor is cold, but it would boil your blood if your pressure suit failed. You give your parachute straps a reassuring pat. It's utterly silent. Just you and your fragile body, hovering alone above the Earth. "Space Diver One, you are go," crackles a voice in your ear, and you undo your harness and stand up. There's nothing for it now: You paid a lot of money for this.

You breathe deeply and leap, somersaulting into the void. The mother planet is gorgeous from up here. You barely perceive that it's rushing up toward you, and your body relaxes. You streak into the atmosphere at 2,500 miles an hour, faster than anyone's ever gone without a vehicle. The sky lightens, the stars disappear behind the blue, and a violent buffeting begins. You deploy your drogue chute for stability; an uncontrolled spin in this thin air would rip you apart. The thick lower atmosphere slows you to 120 mph-terminal velocity. After a thrilling seven-minute plummet, you pull your main chute at 3,000 feet, hands shaking, and glide in for landing. A mile away, your rocket retro-thrusts its way gently to the ground.

Scenario 2: Safety

Sixty miles up, you float easily in the cabin of a small rocket, admiring the stars above, the Earth far, far below. Suddenly, alarms sound. Space debris has pierced the ship, and it begins to break apart. In seconds, the air is gone. It´s utterly silent. Pain gathers in your face. Your tongue and eyes seem to be boiling. The captain rushes over and flips down your visor, and you feel better. Then he screams "Go!" over the radio, and pushes you toward the door. There´s nothing for it now: You don´t want to die.

You close your eyes and leap, tumbling into the abyss. The curved horizon spins wildly. You let out a scream of terror as it rushes up toward you, and then you black out. Minutes later, a sudden jerk wakes you. This must be death, you think-your flesh meeting Earth at horrible speeds. But it´s the tug of your chute deploying at 3,000 feet. You realize you´re going to be all right. You glide in, touch down, and collapse in convulsions, traumatized. Through your tears you see your friends nearby, similarly undone but alive. You spot smoke on the horizon where, a mile away, your ship returned to the ground in an angry hail of twisted metal.

For sport or safety, hurtling to Earth from space without the protective shroud of a heavily engineered space vehicle seems like sheer lunacy-a hellish descent punctuated by intense heat and terminal, well . . . splatter. But believe it or not, the physics actually works out. With a heat-resistant space suit and the right kind of chutes, such a daredevil plunge should indeed be possible. And with the right people involved, it edges into the realm of the probable.

Two veterans of the space industry are working to make the idea real. While the rest of today´s space-bound private enterprises-Richard Branson´s Virgin Galactic, XCOR Aerospace, Jeff Bezos´s Blue Origin-are fixated on getting humans to space, a company called Orbital Outfitters is working on an innovative way of bringing them back, whether it´s done purely as a sport or as an emergency backup plan in case things go awry. Rick Tumlinson, a longtime civilian space booster who founded the Space Frontier Foundation and helped launch the X Prize Foundation, and Jonathan Clark, a former NASA flight surgeon who has a unique understanding of the extremes of spaceflight survival-his wife, astronaut Laurel Clark, perished in the space shuttle Columbia disaster in 2003-have begun to develop the equipment needed to return you from the heavens without a vehicle. And we do mean "you": If you´re bold enough, Tumlinson hopes you´ll be Orbital Outfitters´s first space diver, pioneering what he calls "the most extreme sport in human history." Even if you´d never volunteer to test their prototype, you might end up benefiting anyway, because when commercial suborbital flights become commonplace, Clark thinks the suits and chutes he and Tumlinson are developing could function as the first serviceable life jackets of the spacefaring age.

And the center of the sun is not even that hot. It's no big deal for the ultimate cheese!

Soooooooooorry mister i know my grammar better than you. What if i don't use proper grammar, other people use l33t then I can use improper grammar. And what is the ultimate cheese?

I like to see you do that, leerock89. You wouldn't even there for one nanosecond when trying to stop me because I can send you the the center of the sun without seeing you.

Walking owns everything. Even though I live in a small town and everything is ridiculously far away, I have walked/ran to the nearby towns before. I may be a freak, but I like to run, there I said it, I like to run. By walking/running I get to take in the scenery more than if I was in a car.

At least I won't have to worry about not getting enough exercise that way.Athletics damage their muscles by killing them with an extreme exertion.... yet other ppl damage their muscles by not using them at all.
So either way muscles can be damaged.

I'm still saying instant time dimensional teleportation is the best.

I'm still saying instant time dimensional teleportation is the best.Yeah, but they need to invent it first.... Plus, I believe there might be a problem with molecules/atoms.
I've heard they tried some studies... and it worked with some objects.... !
However, if they tried to teleport a person... they might not "come back" in the same form as before.... which means that the atoms/molecules of the energy might change their form... hmm... It's like they would decode our bodies... and then it would be hard or impossible to find and gather each single information to rebuild a human. Plus, it would take 150 000 million times longer than the present age of our universe (our universe is about 15 000 million years old) to send/teleport so much info. Another factor is, that if they had teleport a human... the original person is being destroyed.. and on the other "side" we would get a "replica" (copy) of the original... which might be a completely different person, w/ different personality, psyche... probably without a soul.

I'd rather die in shape than die fat.

P.S. I knew that. Plus, all physical activity damages your muscles. That tissue is constantly being regenerated.

P.P.S. You take a certain amount of risk everyday by walking out your door, if you worry about stuff like you just mentioned you'll drive yourself nuts.

I should have said that I'd rather die physically fit than overweight.
I'm sorry that I interpreted your post wrong, I lack a sense of humor at times.
Plus, I didn't really find that post all that funny. It was basically you trying to make yourself look intellectually superior to me, which I do not find amusing.

Excuse me, but with all of the respect... you just made a fool of yourself by claiming that I... what? "trying to make yourself look intellectually superior to me" ??... Are you being serious? What you just said is ridiculous.
It was just and only my reflection I had while watching the Olympic Games in last few days.... That either way if I exrecice a lot or not - it's causing damage.
It wasn't a nice move Klard.

So it's my fault you said something that could be interpreted in an offensive manner is it?

I will not apologize for what I said, I feel that way. Even though you were trying to be funny, it came out wrong. I won't give you any negative rep points, but I will say this.

BIKES, BIKES, BIKES! think about it people, bikes are environmentally friendly, you don't have to throw money at them to keep them going (gasoline), they give you a great work out when you use them, they can go pretty fast if you use the high-class speed ones (up to 35+mph), and their so simple to maintain that a 3rd grader could repair one if he had a wrench and pump. you gotta admit those are some pretty good advantages.
