i need to find a paying job

the problem is that my parents don't want me to have one. they think i'll become less dependant on them if i get one (they are terrified of that idea), and they think i'll become less serious about school if i get a job. they won't let me have an allowance cause that seems too american to them (racists), and so i basically have no way to support myself. i remember asking my parents if i could mow somebody's lawn for money and they made me talk to a NUN. i can't reason with my parents because that would be considered CRIMINAL in my family. so what do i do now? :mad:

It seems to me that your parents have left you without a choice. Anything you do will in some way disrupt the balance of your family. At some point in your life they are going to have to let you go; in a way, sooner is better. As I mentioned before this creates a balance that neither of your parents are going to disrupt because it is so easy for them to keep things the way they are. That means it all falls down to you. I'm not suggesting you go behind their backs or anything questionable like that. But at some point you will have to confront your parents. When this confrontation occurs it is important that you stick to the main issue of them being overprotective; not letting you get a job is only a byproduct of the core problem. It may be that they understand what you are feeling and are able to work out a deal, though it is far more likely that it will be an extended argument that will cause many tears to be shed. This weight will fall on your shoulders. Weigh the outcomes; you can live to make your parents happy and miss out on your own life or you can confront them to win your own life and hopefully their approval as well. I can tell you from experience it won't be easy but sometimes you have to go through hell before you can fully realize heaven.
It sounds to me like you are an only child? You have to understand what your parents are going through as well, you mean more to them than you can possibly imagine. If humans could pass feelings between each other I'm sure your parents hearts would be broken by the turmoil you are feeling now, even more so because they don't know any other way. But we can't and the best you can do is try to explain, with our very limited language, what you are going through.

I've seen that mentality before w/ a middle eastern family(only slightly sure on ethnicity so that is the least offensive thing to say) and their son, a buddy of mine turned 21, we decided to go out on Sat to the clubs and drink some, it was my treat since it was his b-day celebration, of course his mother who ran the family didn't want him to go so she hid his wallet, which is part of the reason I was going to foot the bill, so he at least had his id and we decided that was enough and called the cab, as we're waiting for it his brothers and 2nd cousin begin threatening me to get me to leave him alone, when I began leaving figuring no trouble was better than harassment, he comes out of the house ready to leave, so we start walking off, they chase us, and we start running, they went back for the car, chased us down, curbed the car and jumped us, beat the living crap out of us, I had my head beaten into someone's driveway while his brother screamed over and over to leave his brother alone and stop causing him trouble. They also felt the need to beat the crap out of their brother and fractured his arm. Needless to say I understand the mentality your parents are exhibiting, it's annoying, narrow minded, and stagnant, but you have to be very careful trying to break away from it, the key in getting a job is making it seem like you are doing it completely to help the family, make sure they believe they are the first thing in your mind when it comes to this job, convince them that it will in no way affect your studies, and then offer to give them a small portion of your checks to help w/ bills, this will help to build goodwill, if you make $400 a paycheck(2 weeks I assume) then offer to give them $100-200 each check, yes it means you go w/ less money and it's harder to save up for things, but it may help turn the tide and they might let you actually get a job, if you also make sure to get a job that is in someway related to one of your parents careers they may see that as a sign of you wanting to be like them, essentially the key to this plan is smiling to your face hurts and nodding until your head falls off your neck, keep them happy while skillfully distracting them from the idea of you becoming less dependent and wanting to get the hell out of there

to be honest, I thought about pressing charges, but only 1 brother and the cousin actually assaulted us, and I didn't think they were legal immigrants, so that means my buddy and his family would have gotten deported, and if they were legal residents, then I'd be putting 1 brother and a cousin away, and I've have to deal w/ the remaining 3 brothers each and every day of the probably 6 months the others would be in jail, after which they would get out and I'm sure they would make the beating more thorough, and let me tell you, those 4 brothers of his look like those big bulky muscular hawaiians you see on tv and around town, I wasn't trying to piss them off w/o some serious backup and a combat shotgun, and even then, I would have thought twice, so I decided it was in my best interest to go to work w/ my face swollen and bruised the next time, play for sympathy to get a few days at work doing nothing, and just avoid them, granted it didn't help the next person who has to deal w/ them, but it was me, who didn't know a lot of ppl in a new state, versus them who had been living there for a while and already had a mini gang to beat my ass, I went w/ my flight instinct and survived, would you blame me, after they beat me, they followed me down the street in the car they were driving to make sure I went home, and then sat outside my house for a while, not pissing them off

It doesn't have to be a restaurant or fast food joint, my first job was at Target, then I worked, at a Family Dollar, Gateway(twice), did some temp work at a school, did a lot of data entry positions, some telemarketing(more than I would like), warehouse work, and currently I work at an car auction house, and of course there are a few part time jobs that I only worked on a fairly short term basis that I don't need to mention, it's not just about experience, sometimes it's what they need you to do, or what skills you may already have but not realize, most telemarketing places(inbound if you can get it, outbound sucks) will hire young if you can type more than 35wpm, and most of the retail places are always looking for someone to work in the backrooms or stock shelves, and heck even the amusement parks will hire if you've got reliable transportation b/c they have a fairly high turnover rate, you just have to look, and be willing to do anything

This actually works. One of my friends used to sell. He wasn't making much until he got two people under him. By the end he was making a grand per sale and that was after 2 1/2 years. Whats funny is he spent most of the money on clothes. As long as you don't get caught you'll make money.

Oh wow...that was the stupidest response I've seen imo. I mean come on, selling drugs? How about he get the drugs and just hand himself in? Not just him, but since he's under the age of 18 (the legal age) his parents are also going to be getting in trouble with the law. Yeah I am aware how many people in the U.S and people outside of the U.S do drugs and I am aware about how much profit is in it. Usually when people say, "selling drugs" they are usually talking about illegal drugs and not the household Asprin or even legal meth. That way to make some cash just seems a bit over the top when you can get a perfectly good job.

a B is a good grade, sure it may not set your up for a life of fortune in an advanced scientific or mathematical field, but for most jobs that's a good grade, especially when we are talking high school, it can be pulled up later on in college which is what will really matter.As for Strike and Spirit, yes it's one thing to say they need to let him go, but some parents and some cultures refuse to let their children go, now he may not be part of one of those cultures, but that doesn't mean his parents won't still be clingy until he's 25, it's not up to them to let him go, it's up to him to prove they need to let go, and make himself self-reliant, it's not a group effort, it's a choice followed by action, plain and simple. Eh I accidentally used that strategy on my parents, the result was them refusing to give me money and me bussing tables for red necks in the grease trap of hell.

The trick is to show them exactly why they dont want you to mooch of them, they will change their tune real quick... and if they dont then you get free shit till your 18, or until you feel like getting out on your own.
