I lent a book to a friend of mine and she finished it in a day. one that I spent a week or two on. Now, I read slowish, well slow in comparison to most people I know whom as it happens are way more into books than me. But this kind of boggles me. Even if I did sit there all day, I don't think I could read an entire book in a day, let alone keep my attention on it. I chill out and read a typical chapter in an hour, and I can more than justify it as I like to really soak in what I'm reading, but I know people that will read a pile of books in a week. Does anybody else read quick like this? Do you take it all in reading fast, or do you just catch the jist and take in the story? I'm not out to be a speed reader here, but I just want to know if there's some sk-sk-sk-skill that was left out of my kindergarten class curiculum.

to me, it depends on the story. if its fantasy, including dragons and mages, etc... i could read it in a day easily.

Get Eye-Q program. It will increase your reading speed by at least double.

there are ways you can learn how to read fast. I wouldn't call it reading though, it's scanning... One of my boyfriends improved his speed of reading by using eyeQ software ^^

I read fast... only when Im interested in something. I get obsessed with the story, wanting to know what happens next. Its the same thing that happens with anime, Ill watch an episode back to back for days on end until i finish. Hardly giving myself time to blink, digesting only on bathroom and food breaks. I like to LIVE the story, and I do so without break.

It pisses my parents off.

oh computer software engineers...is there anything they can't do?
I'll check it out. I don't mind so much that I read somewhat slugishly. I just get wowed when people blaze through books like it's the comics section of the newspaper (just an analogy, not an indication of my intelectual reading level)

well, it seems like I'm not the only one here who suggests you that software. As leerock said it can increase your reading skills, so why don't you give it a try! [torrents] ^^
Good luck... and tell us later how was it ;)

I do the EXACT SAME THING in both my reading and anime habits. I hardly read many books anymore, but if I like it, I won't stop until I am finished. Same goes for anime.

same here, but if i read to fast i tend to forget in a couple of weeks, but i tend to read any good books twice, so it works out.

To me it really depends, if it's a good Sci-Fi, then I can read it in less then a day. But some others I just can't read it all that fast, I really like to take my time reading it :P

I pull of maybe 50 pages an hour tops, but I couldn't sit there 10 hours straight reading something, no matter how enthrawling it may be. I can get sunk in something that's really interesting, or if it's a short story and I know I'll be done if I just tough it out for the rest. I usually set myself up in quiet, remote, relaxing areas when I read, which has the benefit of being able to read peacefully, but can also help put me to sleep sometimes, haha.

i have my full concentration when i'm reading something interesting..like for books (except school textbooks..ehehe..) and manga..i'm more like "scanning" it but i still understand the flow of the story..
same goes to anime..
