Ok. Since we could call it a "cosmopolitan" anime site, and most of the members are spread world-wide... it got me to think of what are the other places like... where you're at. But most of all, I wonder how many of you had a chance to go abroad? I know from experience, that a lot Americans haven't gone outside the state they live in, some even never left their city or town.
I'd like to know if you travel(ed), if so - what places did you visit. If not, what places you wish to visit? ^^ Likewise, you may write about the most amazing place you've been to...^^ I hope you're going to enjoy this topic, and I'm looking forward to see some interesting replies!

Well currently I live in California, but before that I was in Virginia, and then before that I was a military brat, so South Carolina, Louisiana, Wyoming, Central America, Spain, Germany, Italy, France, I was living in Germany when the Berlin Wall came down so I got to go up and see that and knock a few chunks out of the wall myself, that was fun even if I didn't completely understand it at the time, but now what I really want to do like a lot of the self respecting otaku out there is go to Japan and over indulge in my anime obsession

Oregon and Washington were both great! So much forest and wild country out here and the weather was great too cause I was raised in southern California and the weather there is sunny all day every day every year. Well Seattle was gloomy though, rained like everyday.

I have Polish roots in my family, therefore everytime when someone asks me where do my family come from, they have no idea where's Poland.... it's funny how I try to explain.. that Poland is in central Europe, between Germany and Russia, 'cause some ignorant ppl belive that Poland is a part of Russia... lol

I've done mostly short range traveling. I've been through a good chunk of canada, various places in the states too. the only plane ride adventures I've had were going to meet my aunt in the virgin islands when I was little, and going to south korea (as a result have been in japan transfering airports so I got to drive through, but didn't have any fun:( ). I want to try and get to england next though. I have a lot of relatives over there. after that Japan for sure, and possibly other places following. I need the money to travel first though.

Story of my life, was 2 weeks old and I was stuffed into a car and dragged to northern california. Spent the next 8-10 years traveling up and down the coast a few times a year before finally settling down where I am now for another 10. At the age of 3 I traveled to Europ for the first time to visit my grandpa (bastard runs a cult, hehe you think Im joking) then again at 8 or so, and finally spending 6 weeks alone up there with them at 10. Since then I havent been back but I am going to Europe in 2 weeks for a 3 week long trip with a couple buddies.
Im a traveling man. And I have no urge whatsoever to visit Japan... Yet. I want to bicycle along the entire length of the Great Wall first.

Hmmm, Very... very interesting!!
I would even dare to say that in my opinion, The United Arab Emirates are one of the richest places in the world... Emirates are full of splendor richness but at the same time their reality contrasts with an extreme poverty. In other world ppl are like "sheikhs" or have nothing.
It is one of the places I am really interested to visit. My cousin has just returned from there. He was living and working in The United Arab Emirates for several months. He also has traveled through out the whole world, and in his opinion Emirates are one of the kind - the most beautiful but at the same time diverse place. He said "There is nothing in the world that can surprise me anymore" - that's what he said after seeing Emirates ^^
So maybe I should ask you what car are you driving? hee hee ' cause I've heart that it is pretty "common" to see teenagers driving Lamborghini or Maserati over there ^^
And are you a citizen of Arab Emirates? I assume, that you are 'cause you didn't mention that you've been in States... that means.. you never been, therefore you're not a US citizen? Am I right? ^^

This is an interesting thread. I am a Vietnamese-Chinese born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. I've been to Saigon, Vietnam and Seoul, Korea. I have also traveled around the U.S. , visiting Florida, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Louisiana, and I currently live in Georgia. Oh, and I've been in Hawaii. I would like to visit London, Amsterdam, and Hong Kong. I would also like to meet my brother who lives in Paris one day. One of my best friends is Japanese, so I would like to visit him in Tokyo someday. Oh, and I would die to visit Honolulu again.

Yes I am a citizen of the UAE, but I dont think I would say that there are Sheikhs and nothing, I'd seperate people in 4 categories: Sheikhs, Richmen(They work for Sheikhs or have big companies known in all 7 Emirates), Aristrocats, and then well people that have more than nothing(but half of them are ok with this, as they are living in the poor Emirates like Ras Al Khayma or Fujaira). Teens here mostly drive Jeeps, Land Cruisers(Toyota), and Hummers(Richmen/more than nothing). It's "comman" to see people who drive Lamborghini(s) but they probably own 15 other cars(I rank these people Sheikhs/Aristocrats), so you don't get to see there cars a lot. Sheikhs here have really cool cars. There number plates' are in red, and they range from 1 to something I forgot what.
Your cousin probably visited Dubai(Richest Emirate), Abu Dhabi(Second Richest Emirate, but it is the capital), Sharjah(Third Richest Emirate), or Ajman(Starting to get rich). I am living in Dubai, but went to other Emirates for trips. In Dubai, there are a hundred malls, and they are building a thousand more, but there is a huge traffic problem in dubai. I'd rank myself in the Richmen category. The average UAE teen likes to play football(soccer) and has bad english. But there are few, like me who like ATVs, Anime, Video Games, etc. and have good english and there are some that do a little of both and have good english. But there are very few who I dont know when they get the time like a guy in my class(He's an aristrocrat). He has ATVs, Computers , PS3s, Wiis, XBOX 360s, ATVs, and many Drivers(two take him from a place to another, the other three are delivery boys if he forgot something which is mostly money) and yet all this he watches anime(he watches Bleach, Naruto, and One Piece). He never studies he has the lowest grades in the entire 9th grade. I dont drive, I am still under 18, although I am planning to buy a Land Cruiser.

Yea traveling outside of the country you call home is a good thing. It allows you to see the world for what it really is and give you a greater appreciation for life. Oh yea, I want to go to Canada too. Funny how I've been almost everywhere in the US and a good part of Central America and I haven't even touch Canada yet. I want to go to France. I'm probably going next year, so I'm a bit excited. :3 I have family in Japan, so we take turns visiting every year. This year they are coming here. I lived in Vietnam, and I still go to visit family. They don't know English, so we have no choice but to go visit them. I went to Norway to visit my friend's family. It was pretty fun. I tend to go visit Caribbean islands a lot. I'm going to the Dominican Republic this year. :3 I've been to Aruba, The Bahamas, Jamaica, Cozy Mel, The Virgin Islands (US and British), and I think that's it.

Mmmm, France? France and Italy are the countries I have visited the most, each 10 times... I'm in love with Italy, especially the architecture, ancient art etc. On the other hand... with France I have different memories... including that once I went there with my high school... and with the boy of my "dreams" (haha)... Therefore, (back then) that was the most wonderful time in my life... While we were in Paris, this boy confessed his love to me... ^^
I have visited most of Europen countries... including Germany, Czech and Slovak Republics, Austria, Switzerland, Netherlands (loved it!), Denmark, Spain (it was kind of fun but weird, 'cause most of the ppl I met and made friends with were Germans and Hungarians!)...
Then I have seen some of the African continent: Marocco & Egypt.
Almost forgot, I visited Greece - (have great memories of that time)
hmmm... Canada, Bermuda... hmmm *thinks*... I forgot what else ^^ ahh, Poland.
When I was a child, I used to love family "road" trips... it was kinda exhausting, but at the same time I could see lots of different places...
So we used to take a trip from CT down to FL ^^ Then we would stop in each state to enjoy our time.

Hmm, I haven't seen many places, since we never go somewhere in the holidays. My parents have to work etc, and I don't want to go with my sis, or going with other relatives/acquaintances.
I went to China with my sis, and stayed at my grandparent's. I don't like my grandparents -.- or family xD. Well, the older generation at least. Hmm, I went to Berlin and Prague with school. The only holiday with my whole family was to Paris, 2 days.

Well, as for America I live in ohio, all over Ky, Gatlinburg, Atlanta, New York, Memphis, chicago, myrtle beach, hilton head, washington dc, west virginia, virginia and florida...
My dad used to live in Houston, TX so I know all about that crazy place lol..
The only place outside of the country that Ive been is Sao Paulo, Brazil.
My sister and her husband are missionaries (ironically enough) that run an orphanage for the street children down there, so Ive been to visit her twice. They also pastor a church that is basically part of the orphanage but is open to everyone. They actually have a pretty good sized congregation.
And about sao paulo...there are suprizingly large amounts of japanese that live there. The shopping is amazing, but if you go to the bad parts of town and see the utter poverty, you wont be able to spend a dime on yourself. Well, at least thats my experience. I just wanted to take the kids home with me, they were so precious. Especially the babies. <33

I currently live in the US in the state of Illinois. I never been outside of the country but I would love to travel. I have been to Missouri, Ohio, Iowa, Maryland, North Carolina, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and of course I've been to D.C.
My favorite state was North Carolina. I loved it. My family and I go there every summer and chill on the outer banks of North Carolina, you know, the islands that used to be old naval bases, that very few people live on? Well anyway, the funny thing was that one of the people there asked me where I was from. I said Illinois. He goes, well what do you do when it snows. I thought that was funny. I came to learn later that the people on Cape Hatteras(that's where we stayed, not in a hotel like pansies either, mind you) don't really know how to drive in the snow, since it rarely ever snows there.
But anyway I liked it there because it was beautiful. I got up every morning to watch the sunset, it was so beautiful coming up over the ocean like that.
I liked West Virginia as well. I stayed up in the mountains there and got to see the sun come up over the mountains. I actually dream about those states, it just struck me as so beautiful there.

I am so excited. I mean I've never been to those places... but still.. those are like "must see" on my list ^_^
This is just SO great! that you could travel there... Hmm makes me wonder, where are you originally from, hmm?
Well, an economic teacher I know, she is from Lebanon. She is a wicked smart lady, and of course the national language... is arabic-origin... - I would say the hardest language to learn (at least for me). Now, we have a couple of members here, who are from UAE. Ooooohhhh, this is like the richest country of all.. I mean they are "soaked in luxury" ;) My cousin works for GE, therefore he was transfered for a couple of months to work in Dubai. After he came back, he said, there's nothing in this world that could possibly surprise him, anymore... In other words this is how much he was impressed. ;)

Well, I don't mind... if i would go to China and live in some kind of village, still it would be an amazing experience to me... to associate with different culture and nature. I don't know where did you go, but regardless if that was some huge city or little town, still i wish to go and see... Traveling isn't always about the comfort and getting rest/relax. Sometimes, those are very tiring "expeditions".... It depends on what is your purpose...
And I am sooo jealous of you going to Rotterdam- my the most favorite city in Holland ;)
