View Full Version : Most depressing animes' in their ending?

Yeah, pretty stupid, but I just got done with Shingetsutan Tsukihime, and like with all animes, I finished it and got depressed that I finished it (Thank God I am not alone [read some of the All anime ends :( topic ].
Thing is though, the ending, while I guess it tied up all the loose ends and what not, was depressing as hell. I mean, it just sucked; won't say what happened though. So I started to wonder, "What other animes people watch that are just really depressing at the end so that it makes it even worse once you finished it?"
I think its even worse when they dont even bother to end it. I mean it stops no resolution or wrap up just cuts off and you are left to imagine how it might of ended.

*Points to Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien"
I'm the kinda guy who never really likes the way things turn out in the end (- a few good animes)

heck yeah it did i just finished it. I didint like Light at first and he kept growing on me and by the end i thought he had it! I was disappointed to find out that N and M had outsmarted him he did so well and no one ever screwed up I was super pissed to see m/n win if it had been L maybe it wouldn't have been so bad but i dunno, what a shitty ending for Light and Misa Misa:mad:

Spiral, loved the anime, but the ending was alright, I just felt it left too many things up in the air, it seems like there should be a sequel on it, but no word, and of course one of the all time most annoying endings, Full Metal Alchemist, I really was not a big fan of how the movie ended after that entire series, I mean WTH!?, of course I agree w/ you on Tsukihime, I have that one on dvd, and I felt so bad for the kid, I know there are one or two others like those but I can't think of them right now
If you don't like sad endings then stay away from Neon Genesis Evangelion.

i hate those. Inuyasha especially. the anime was bad enough, so i was hoping since i was far enough into the anime that hopefully they'll give me something good at the end, but they wrap it up so terribly. they did nothing to end the story. anyone who has watched that anime all the way through and liked it must easily be amused cuz it was a terrible ending. oh ya and a bit off-topic, but was episode 25 of Air Gear the last one? i heard they canceled the making of it and that made me want to jump off a bridge. it cant just end like that....it was so goodd :(
most depressing ending as in sad, if thats really what u meant by this thread, i would have to say was probably FMA for me. not counting the wrap up with the movie, it was a pretty depressing ending. they might have gotten what they were going on their journey for in the first place, but they got seperated and it felt like it just couldnt be over. it was a real emotional ending too, made me feel sad that it was over since it was just such a good anime.

Wait, did Misa died in the end? I saw her stand on top of building and look like she is trying to jump? Oh, and I thinks the saddist ending I watch is probably Samurai X and Chrono Crusade.

watch saikano. that show has the most depressing ending I've seen. The world reduced to sand and one of the main characters is the only survivor.

man I completely forgot Chrono Crusade when I was thinking of sad endings, that was so wrong how they went out, I mean you get all invested in these char's and it pulls something like that, and w/ such a gap between we have no idea what happened between them after the end of the last battle except that they lived in the same house, I mean sometimes I just wish they would produce a 30-45min OVA after some of these series to explain a few things, see what happened to the char's later, even on some of the animes that had good endings, I'm curious as to what happened afterwards, take Yu Yu Hakusho, yeah we all assume Yusque married Keiko, but what happened w/ Hiei, Kurama, Boton, Kuwabara, Yukina, and Shizure?
I think the sadest ending of all anime would have be eureka seven he gets the girl but loses everything else lol just like real life

I loved Fate Stay/Nights ending, and basilisk had a fantastic end from my point of view.

I think that Elfen Lied is pretty depressing. I don't want to ruin the ending, but to put it simply, this series is one of THE saddest, IMO, ever made.

Full Metal Alchemist, Death Note, and Dragon Ball GT
Fullmtal Alchemist will get a little better if you watch the movie.

I don't really know if it was depressing for you, but i think the Hunter X Hunter one was because the dad was so close, but they end it before you actually see him. That literally killed me on the inside. i would also have to agree with the Death Note one and the FMA was only depressing if you only watched the series.

Chrono Crusade was sad, Elfen Lied was sad and pissed me off,(Who's behind that door!! Like we cant figure it out by the shadow) Death Note left me wanting, and there are others but Ive taken too much of you time already.

another is fooly cooly
Fooly cooly didn't really end bad, I think it wrapped up quite well I think. Naota grows up a little more! If anything it sucks that you get to the end of episode 6 and go "that's it?"
The way full metal alchemist wraps up (movie and all) there's not really much else they could've done. I mostly felt bad that winry pretty much gets sh*t on the whole series, and then they abandon her at the end when technically they didn't have to.
Grave of the fireflies was as depressing as depressing gets. I don't want to even imagine anything ending worse than that.
others would be samurai 7, eva (movies, the series ends on a rather high note I'd say), and perfect blue (movie)

Actually i don't think Full Metal Alchemist is sad if you watch the movie. But the ending of the movie is just lousy even worse than the real series. I think both ends are far more silly and confusing than sad.

Rosario + Vampire is a bit depressing for me since I was really looking for Tsukune being Ghoul in the end.
Fate/Stay Night was also depressing since Saber left Shiro.
Tsukihime is also depressing since the main characters were just about to go deeper into their relationship when the girl died.
Green Green is a bit sad for me too, since most of the people forgot about the main girl (Midori). I was also afraid if she died.

mmm...dont you guys hate ending that dont happen. I mean like some animes hint thoughout the series that some people will get hitched but even in the last episode they don't. I get so angry when that happens. The animes like Love hina and ranma 1/2,

Lol, It would be funny if the series with very very long episodes have such crappy climax and conclusion. Like, "WTF? We watched the whole series just to see a shitty ending?" Maybe that is why some popular animes can't stop, since if they do, their ending might not satisfy the fans.

Ashiteruze Baby and Utawarerumono do that. It acts like it tied up all the questions and then it ends and your like 'Wait a minute what about this/that?' or you think they should have been longer. I think all anime should be atleast 50 episodes long...

Zero no Tsukaima were really sad, though the epilogue weren't that bad.
Basilisk have perhaps the saddest ending i've seen yet.
Utawarerumono and Fate/stay night were pretty sad as well.
I didn't think Tsukihime were that sad, they had strongly hinted that all the main characters would die... They probably all do, in different paths in the game

I totally second that, Their were points toward the end of the series were it was just really heavy and i would yell "WHY!? WFT!?" at the screen.
The movie was sad to until the end and then it was like BOOM! acid trip. Overall i liked it i thought it was pretty deep.
