View Full Version : How hardcore is your fandom?

A common stereotype about us anime fans is that we are all obnoxious people with no life who hate anyone who doesn't like anime and are general asshats. If you want to know what I mean, look at anyone on 4chan.
How much of an anime fan are you? How much anime do you watch? Are you actually a normal person? To what lengths do you take your fandom? Let's see how many users on Anime Fuel are sane people.

Myself, I think that I fall into the hardcore category fan who doesn't do much other than watch anime a lot. Well of course I play video games too. Why else would I work here if i wasn't devoted?
I have been pretty much watching anime on TV as long as it has been coming on. And it wasn't until last year I discovered the wonderful world of online anime viewing, which I am now completely absorbed in. I used to average about 2 26 episode series a week, but now its about 1 a week, with my helping this great site and all.
One thing is that not many people really know me as an anime fan. I am better well known for my Nintendo fandom, which now I think is surpassed by my anime fandom. I like to go to conventions, and I have sometimes chewed out people who say anime is stupid and for kids. I'm not one of those people who say other people aren't "fan enough" because they don't have some set number of anime paraphernalia.
In general, I think that the anime community is filled with really friendly people sharing a common interest. It's easy to go to a convention and end up having conversations and debates with strangers about anime, and making friends with them. Same thing goes for communities like this. Those 4chan douchebags give anime communities a bad name.

As you requested I am posting here. I fall just a step below hardcore. I wath anime whever I can and I have several manga. Not as much as I would like because lack of money limits me. However I watch anime whenever I have the chance to. I'm not an asshat and I don't hate people who hate anime as long as their not bashing it. Then I launch into definsive mode about how there is nothing wrong with anime. The past three days I've been watching spice and wolf, Girls Bravo, and Vampire knight. I'm having a hard time here recently so i couldn't watch as much as I wanted to but my time just freed up so I'm at it again. I still do other things like read and go to a few non anime relted websites.

I can't say im hardcore, but im about to be there. I watch at least 5 anime episodes and 20 chapters of manga per week. I watch more if the time allows me to. I also watch hentai if Im stressed or pissed about something (just can't watch those real porno for personal reasons). The reason I got sucked into it is because of friends and relatives. At first I watch so that I have something to talk about to them, but ended up liking them too.

I put myself as a casual fan but now I think I should have changed that. I have gone to Otakon 5 times (6th time this summer), I have dressed up and I read manga. I also play video games, collect gobs and gobs of things, sing, and many other things.
You be the judge!!

I would consider myself a super fan at least in terms of how much time I like to spend each day on anime and manga, although I do still spend some time with regular books, video games and a couple of tv shows, although in terms of knowledge I think I'm not quite a super fan as some of you seem to memorize an awful lot of information pertaining to these animes where my brain seems to be filled instead with information from the book series I read

shy of a super fan I suppose. Granted I've got other things to do with my time, but when you break it down the vast majority of my visual pleasure is anime, followed by animated shows, followed by movies...which are sometimes anime as well. I gave up on tv and basic cable and watch everything on dvd or online which made AF such an awesome score. I pretty much have to pull in an anime episode a day at least, but I don't get wild about it and start buying random trinkets and material anime goods. I'd more than happily defend it from ignorant attacks, but I'm more than understanding when people don't have a taste for it. Don't get into the whole cosplay racket, but I'm down with conventions if they're reasonable to get to. Unfortunately the only good one in canada is anime north, and like xmas comes but once a year. now then, I needs ma dose to take da itches away.
