I remember this. I was sacred to talk to my husband for a week(We were good friends at the time, online of course, when we finally met in person is when he proposed to me).
It's hard to believe that there are people like this in society. I advise you all to not trust everyone you meet online and do not give out personal information. I know, I know. I went against that, but we had webcam convos for quite some time, so I could be sure it was who my husband claimed to be. Just be careful, and don't let people online control you life in such a degree.

I've heard about it on TV, a short while after it all happened.
You know what.... despite this whole story (which is obviously tragic) I am a little bit annoyed by it by now. I mean they were talking about it on every possible channel on TV, not to mention the news papers, cheap magazines and of course the internet. Mother of this girl made a great effort do get on TV and be heard by the millions... I am sorry... but to me it just started to look like another typical show-business scene... to make it popular so it can sell. I am not saying that this mother is getting any $$$ for crying on air.... but the media... television.. all of the shows that invited her.... and the news- are wallowing in money made on this DRAMA story, which people "sooo love" to hear about.
This is something I truly don't like about USA. The exaggeration. Normally, no one gives a damn about other people's life, problems, feelings... etc. Yet, when something like this happens, then the millions of our wonderful population rise their voice to share the biggest concern. We fall into extremes. Excessively focusing on one little thing, while the rest of the whole picture is out of our range.

My first reaction is that it's terrible what happened but then again I think about this for a bit and I think why would you let yourself get caught up with a person you don't even know? Especially, when this is the internet and anyone can be anyone they choose to be. It surprises me how seriously everything is taken when everyone says don't take things seriously it's the internet but yet they do.

I think if you were to get serous with someone on the internet at least do a webcam for awhile like you did but other than that there is no verification of knowing who that person says they are. Also, most people in the very beginning say who they really are when they don't know anyone and aren't familiar with the surroundings versus someone who has been registered to several different forums based on the same subject matter. I've noticed this but I don't know if it's true for every case.

My parents always warn me about giving out info on the internet which is why Im really cautious about who I talk to. The people here seem to be generally friendly so I dont think its a problem here. On other sites however, this is a problem. MySpace, Facebook, etc. all have a dangerous element to them which is why its better to be really cautious on the internet...

that does suck though. why didn't she block the guy when those messages started to come in. i would block them in a heart beat if someone started to do that to me. i don't remember hearing about this. anyways kiddos like others have said do not give out your personal info to people you have met on the internet. there are way too many sick people in the world who want to hurt you.
That is very terrible. She was so young and beautiful.

You probably aren't a manic depressive who's convinced that there's not a soul in the world that likes you.
