I was thinking about this contest that a big radio station here in canada had going on a year or so back and thought it sounded very forum friendly. It was a cool way to check out new bands, and throw some stuff in the mix and ultimately come out with a superhero playlist. It was called the ultimate ipod playlist or something like that. I've tweeked it a little so that there's no governing control and everyones got the chance to have at it, but to break it down it's a bit of a popularity contest.
RULES:

-I'm going to start with a list of 10 songs to start.
-songs are listed: band name-song title
-the following person must replace songs, but there's a limit.
-you can only take out 2 songs you've never heard of before, and/or 2 songs that you dislike/would prefer to see replaced.
-no song can be reintroduced, it has one chance and if it gets bumped, it gets bumped.

so, if there are no songs you dislike, or if you're familliar with all the songs than you don't remove them. you can take out 1, 2, 3, or all 4.

eg. so, you can replace one song you detest, and leave all the rest if you know them. or you can trash two songs that you have never heard before and leave all the rest because you like them. If you like them all and have heard them all, then you have no reason to follow up, so why post?

the idea is that as you go along, you take out the crap and ad some gold. but if someone hasn't heard of your gold, then they can check it out, or they can substitute your crap with some gold.
sound cool?
it went through easy enough in my head so hopefully there shouldn't be many problems, but we'll deal with them as they come along.

and begin:

1. joe strummer and the mescalaros - long shadow
2. muse - new born
3. the pogues - fairytale of new york
4. smashing pumpkins - disarm
5. comeback kid - wake the dead
6. avoid one thing - backyard joey
7. the kills - wait
8. david bowie - life on mars
9. bob marley - three little birds
10. velvet undergroun - venus in furs
