I just started watching the first few episodes of ergo proxy and it jumped into my head that it was kinda reminding me of blade runner. It's come across many times that certain series remind me of certain other series, or that one director's trying to take from something and pass it off in their new style or whatever. I've had a lot of things remind me of blade runner (which incidently like many other films, was influenced by Fritz Lang's metropolis), and it gets me to wondering at a point if I really like it as much anymore. Does anybody else get disuaded by the fact that a series your watching is very similar to another. I'm not talking clumping all giant robot mech anime in to one category, but more the evolution of formulated plots. Who likes seeing new twists on an old story, or does it ever weigh down on you and now you only hunt for as much originality as possible? I'm enjoying ergo proxy and it is taking turns from where I saw it going in the first episode, but I can't help but think that my connection to other films/shows/reading material of the same formula mildly dilutes the essence of the series.

Dang atomsk, this thread was almost 1yr old, how did you even find it anyways???
And might as well answer since i'm already here.
Yes, i've seen that happen, just look at Code Geass R2 Knightmares(Kinghts of 10) And the Gundams From Gundam 00(Main ones)
Anyone else see the resemblance?
The question is who did them first?

With more 2,000 anime series out there it's not really surprising to see some similarities or unoriginal content in others.

And yes, old thread is old.
