That's right, the last console that Sega ever made has turned 10 years old, the reason why Sega is now just a third party company instead of a first party, taken out by Sony's Playstation 2.

And to commemorate this day, Sega is releasing a brand new dreamcast game. Sadly though it's been a long time since new games have been made for it, and it's odd to think that new games would even be made. I believe that games still get periodically released over in japan, but oh well.
Celebrate today by plugging in sega's first dedicated disk reading console and have a merry time.

Oh the console that back then I wish I had and now am glad I didn't.
It was just to sad to see Sega go that way.... Killed by the DVD.

Sega's first dedicated disc-reading console? Excuse me? What happened to the Sega Saturn?
There aren't any good reasons for a normal gamer to own a DC anymore. All its best games have been ported or remade. I mean, it's cool if you're a collector (my reason for owning one), but other than that...*shrugs*

That looks like a cartridge there on the right, and a cartridge port in the back of the console

I never noticed the cartridge port before...
Wow... I cannot believe I missed it.

So what, just because it also had a cartridge port, it's not as dedicated? "It's more universal, so it's not as dedicated. HURR."
But actually, sir, that cartridge slot isn't even for games. It's for add-ons like extra RAM, cheat devices, game save devices, etc. So yeah, no, the Dreamcast was not first.

Ah, but if you go that route then you should be saying that the Sega CD was the first.

That was an add-on, not a console. The Saturn was a full, disk-reading console. The Sega CD was just an extra thing you threw on the bottom of your Genesis/Mega Drive. And almost none of the Sega CD games were exclusive to that format, rather they were mostly just ports of cartridge games.
So no, you're still wrong.

Goody, un-intended debate!
Technically, you have contradiction. Even though the Sega CD was an add-on to the Genisis console, it didn't require the cartridge port, and it had it's own CD games. The most it required from the Genisis was its hardware to run it, and a stand alone Sega CD was being planned at one point anyway. By this definition, it is the same as the Saturn, and therefore if you argue that the catridge isn't required for the games, then CD gets included.
So, that means that either the Sega CD is the first dedicated disk reading system by Sega, or you have to say the catridge port nulls it all together, which at the same time takes out the Saturn, leaving us with a disk reading ONLY Dreamcast console. Boy do I love friendly debate ^^
Getting back on topic however: Even though everyone says that the 3-D Sonic games all blow, I loved the first Sonic Adventure game, and the second, on the Dreamcast. My favorite memory was playing as Sonic in the (either second or third) stage, where you get sucked up by a tornado and all of the sudden you're super high up. And for whatever reason, I didn't follow the grating path that led down, I turned Sonic to the opposite side of the floating island, and leapt right off. Half a minute later, I landed on the final island at the bottem with a time that was nearly half of what I usually clock in at on the stage.

Sega CD is not a console. It is an add-on. Therefore it is not included. Common sense seems to evade you on this point.
The Saturn plays disc games ONLY. The cartridges are NOT GAMES. That's why it's the first "dedicated disc-reading console" by Sega.
I'm afraid that's all there is to it.

Ah, but again, the Sega CD ONLY plays disk based games as well, the fact that it's an add on is irrelevant since you can rip out the cartridge port of a genisis and only use the Sega CD. That gives you one purely CD based console that separates into two parts for convenience.

Damn, lol I love these debates. I know chances are I'll get bashed for this, but I'm going to have to agree with quiet. After all, you can't argue with hard facts.

...but you were talking about disc reading consoles in your first post. Not add-ons. That's why I'm not including it. If you had originally said you were counting add-ons, then your argument would be fine.
Really, all I'm saying is that you can't change what you originally meant halfway through an argument. You said consoles. Then you changed it to consoles and add-ons. You're a flake. You were wrong. GET OVER IT.

Considering that I brought it up I think it would be pretty clear that I would call the add-ons for the Sega Genisis their own consoles. I didn't dis-include them either, so I'm free to bring it in at any time, and my previous post is proof of concept that any add-on is it's own console so long as it doesn't rely on the format of the original. My stance didnt' change at all during this debate since my original was that the Dreamcast was first, and the debate was more about deciding wether we have 2, or 3 pure disk reading consoles instead, and because I consider the add-on a console, it's not "Add-ons and consoles", it's "Consoles attached to consoles", still no change. If we don't mind the cartridge port on a saturn, we mustn't mind the genisis that the Sega CD is attached to.
Also, you seem to be more annoyed with the debate than I am, I'm having fun for a change. And what exactly is a 'flake' supposed to mean in this context?

Quiet, you really can't even bring the cartridge port on the Saturn into this. It doesn't play games. It doesn't play games. It doesn't play games.
Got that yet?
The Sega CD add-on does play games. That's the key difference here. If you really want to count add-ons so bad, yes it was the first disc-playing SOMETHING OR OTHER that Sega made, but it was not the first console. That is all I've been trying to say. The WHOLE TIME.

I hate to say it, I mean really hate, but I agree with Sui...
The cartridge port was as is stated.
I am just waiting to spontaneously combust for agreeing....
