I thought I'd start a little thread about The Twelve Kingdoms by Fuyume Ono. The anime is based on these books but makes some significant changes. In fact, some viewers are unsatisfied with the anime series because it is leaving loose ends which will not be resolved until further episodes develop the incidents in the novels. And as yet, no further episodes seem to be forthcoming.
However, the novels are available. The first three volumes have been published in official English translations and more will follow. Unofficial translation of all seven of the books are available on line. I have just finished the third volume, The Vast Spread of the Sea, which is part of the anime series as it stands and it is really excellent. The psychological depth of Ono's writing is remarkable. The fourth book is now available for pre-order on Amazon.
