(This is a poem that I wrote in June. I was feeling depressed that day and I was thinking about my father. I wrote it for a poetry assignment I had to do for my course)
When I was fourteen
You left us all alone
You said you cared, yet I knew your ways
You never returned
When I was fourteen.
When i was fourteen
You walked out that door
You left and never said goodbye
But then that faithful day came
When I waited for you
But you never came...
I looked around me all the time
And I see my group of friends.
We are alike in many ways
Yet I stand out from them.
Because you left and walked away
Moved on to another life.
You broke an oath that you swore
and you threw it away
For what?
Someone who could never love you as much as we did.
You left someone who was dedicated to you, who loved you for all that you were
You left a family that needed you, respected you and always looked up to you.
You are out there
Enjoying your life with your new family
But you are unaware on how much I miss you
How I cry at night for you
How much I wish that you were here.
I say at times
That I don't care
that it doesn't bother me at all
But really I do
I just wish that you were here
To be the dad, which dads are meant to be.
I sometimes lie awake at night
Wishing you were here, then I would close my eyes and see you here
That I wake up and know it was all a dream
But if you were here...
Maybe we could go to the movies, walk the dog, go out the eat..
Just come back so I can say my final goodbye
But until that day comes
I can't forget that day
When I was fourteen.
When I was fourteen
You left us all alone
You said you cared, yet I knew your ways
You never returned
When I was fourteen.
When i was fourteen
